Our History


This is how our family-owned company grew from humble beginnings into one of the largest vacation companies in the country!

1974
Funway Holidays founded by Bill LaMacchia as a wholesale division of Travelpower.

1975
Funjet established as a charter division.

1976
Bill LaMacchia and a partner establish Travway, Inc. after purchasing Travelpower.

1977
Las Vegas service office opens; Funway Holidays celebrates its 100,000th Las Vegas passenger on December 7.

1978
Funway Holidays becomes a member of the United States Tour Operators Association $1 Million Consumer Plan.

1980
Bill LaMacchia and his Travway partner part ways. LaMacchia purchases the wholesale portion of the business and creates Funway Holidays, Inc. and Funjet, Inc.; construction begins on a 75,000 square foot building in Milwaukee; Orlando service office opens.

1981
LaMacchia and employees move from the downtown location to a new corporate headquarters at 8907 N. Port Washington Rd. in northeast Milwaukee.

1982
The Denver service office opens; Funway Holidays is awarded Tour Wholesaler of the Year by the Las Vegas hotel and motel industry.

1983
The Mark Travel Corporation is established.

1985
Chicago service office opens; the first Funjet charter departs from Chicago.

1986
Funway Holidays, Inc. and Funjet, Inc. become Funway Holidays Funjet.

1987
Funway Holidays Funjet is awarded "Tour Wholesaler of the Year" by Las Vegas hotel and motel industry.

1988
Dallas and Houston service offices open.

1989
Regular charters to Mexico established.

1991
Funjet Vacations continues to expand charter markets.

1992
London Service office opens; Funway Holidays International is established. Funjet Vacations begins sending customers to Europe.

1993
San Diego service office opens; the first Funjet Orlando charter departs in June; Chicago celebrates its 1,000th Funjet charter flight in December; Jamaica service office opens.

1994
Company name is changed from Funway Holidays Funjet to Funjet Vacations; logo changes; Funjet Vacations celebrates 20 year anniversary; Salt Lake City reservation center and service office opens; Funjet Vacations increases its charter markets to 11.

1995
Des Moines service office opens; Funjet Vacations introduces itinerary document format.

1997
Funjet Vacations receives the "Mexico Tour Operator Award of Excellence" from the Mexican government.

1998
Funjet Vacations' web site wins a Sandals Ultra Award and an ASTA public relations award.

1999
Funjet Vacations sending customers to new destinations, Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, and to Las Vegas seven days a week.

2002
Wisconsin Badgers return to Las Vegas on Funjet Vacations to face the UNLV Rebels. The game was called in the last two minutes due to a power outage. Bill LaMacchia Jr. and the mayor of Las Vegas had a friendly wager and Bill Jr. received the keys to the city.

2003
New Funjet Vacations website launched.

2004
Funjet Vacations celebrates 30 Years of Fun

2005
August – The Governor of Quintano Roo, Mexico, and a delegation of Mayors and tourism officials from the Riviera Maya, Cancun, Cozumel and Isla Mujeres make an official State tourism visit to Funjet Vacations’ corporate headquarters in Milwaukee to further strengthen their relationship with Mexico – recognizing that Funjet Vacations is the leading U.S. vacation packager to Mexico and the top producer to Quintano Roo.

September – Funjet Vacations unveils its exciting new travel agent relationship and reward program, “Fun For Life”

October – Funjet Vacations launches new, cutting-edge marketing technologies to educate travel agents and consumers with a blog dedicated to educating travelers about the tourism recovery following the hurricanes.  The Wall Street Journal writes about Funjet’s new marketing and educational tools.

November – The Governor of Nayarit, Vallarta and a delegation of mayors and tourism officials make an official State tourism visit to Funjet Vacations’ corporate headquarters in Milwaukee to grow tourism to Vallarta, the second leading tourism region for Funjet Vacations' customers.  Bill La Macchia and Ray Snisky, president of Funjet Vacations, sign an agreement with the Governor to support the University in Nayarit.

December – Funjet Vacations makes history by broadcasting the first-ever, live interactive Virtual Fam from the Riviera Maya to promote tourism to the region after the hurricanes. The 10 live shows educated nearly 12,000 travel agents on the recovery of the Riviera Maya and helped rebuild confidence and travel to the region.

2006
April – Funjet Vacations broadcasts its second interactive Virtual Fam from Cozumel called “Cozumel Live” to showcase the island's beauty and tourist attractions.

2007
Funjet Vacations introduces a number of exciting enhancements that help travelers to find the vacation experience that is right for them, as well as share their experiences with other travelers. With the introduction of the Vacation Memory Exchange, expanded My Account functionality, and icons that identify the featured experiences throughout the site, travelers have a new way of shopping for their next vacation and sharing their expertise with other travelers.
