Riviera Maya

This lush region of mangrove jungles and beautiful beaches is just waiting to immerse you in paradise.

Riviera Maya, Mexico

Head to Riviera Maya if you’re ready to relax.

Let’s face it, if you’re researching vacation options it probably means you’re stressed, overworked and need a break. So it’s a good thing you’re checking out the Riviera Maya, because this Mexican destination is one of the most popular for those looking to kick back and relax. With miles of beaches, access to some incredible theme parks and the always-bustling Playa Del Carmen shopping district and dozens of all-inclusive resorts that cater to any age or type of vacation, the Riviera Maya makes for one heck of a place to cut loose.

Xcaret

Xcaret is an eco-archaeological park that offers insane live performances, crazy good dining and some of the warmest and friendliest people this side of the Yucatan Peninsula. You can watch Manatees feed on the bottom of a lagoon, which is actually a lot cooler than it might sound. There are also flamingos, turtles, parrots, monkeys…we could go on and on. And don’t forget to go swimming in the underground river system. It’s nuts.

Travel Tip

Save on admission by combing a trip to Xcaret with more eco-adventures at Xel-Ha Park’s natural aquarium or Xplor Adventure Park.

Family friendly

The great thing about the Riviera Maya is that it attracts all types of vacationers. Whether you’re traveling with Grandma and Grandpa (because maybe you paid for their airfare if they agreed to babysit the kids while you snuck away to the spa one night), or whether you’re honeymooning newlyweds, the people of the Riviera Maya will welcome you with open arms. Most resorts have English-speaking staff and are incredibly friendly toward American vacationers.

Travel Tip

Some all-inclusive resorts have strict “no tipping” policies. At others? It’s up to you. You’re not required to tip, but if you feel the staff has gone out of their way to help you, feel free to show your gratitude with a little green.

Tulum

If you’re ready to be blown away by some of the most awe-inspiring ruins of the ancient Mayan race, then Tulum is where you ought to go. But it’s not just the impressive buildings and an opportunity to take a step back in time that attracts visitors to this region. The Tulum ruins are have some of the most striking oceans views in Riviera Maya, and are just minutes away from pristine cenotes that begged to be explored.

Maroma Adventures

You know how jetpacks were supposed to be a thing like, forty some years ago? Well at Maroma Adventures, you can ride the Flyboard. It’s basically a wakeboard that shoots water out the bottom so fast it keeps you suspended in the air. Yeah, we know. But there’s more, too. Go parasailing or snorkeling. Take an ATV out on the trails or a waverunner out on the water. Oh, also? You can totally ride on a camel.

Playa Del Carmen

There’s a good chance you might not ever want to leave your resort, but should you be the more adventurous type, there’s no better place for entertainment and dining than Playa Del Carmen. The historic Fifth Avenue offers some of the best shopping and restaurants in Mexico, without the hectic bustle of more popular tourist destinations. But don’t worry, there are still plenty of nightclubs and discos to check out, they just have a more lounge-y feel than most.

TRAVEL TIP

Many all-inclusive resorts are located in Playacar, a quiet gated community just a few blocks from Playa del Carmen’s vibrant downtown. So you can have it both ways.
