Turks & Caicos

This laid-back string of islands is closer than you think.

Turks & Caicos

There’s no better place to get away from it all.

When you’re looking to ditch the buzz of daily life and kick back, relax and let the Caribbean sunshine works its magic, Turks & Caicos is the place to be. Its peaceful atmosphere sets a relaxed pace, so whether you want to motor out to one of the many reefs or just lay low on the white-sand beaches, you can take your sweet island time.

The best thing about this Caribbean hideaway? It’s just a hop, skip and jump from the U.S. mainland, which means you can get away without venturing too far. Turks & Caicos is made up of 40 islands, and the eight inhabited islands are home to not only some of the world’s best beaches, but also some of the world’s friendliest people. Toss in delicious dining and exciting adventures, and you’ll be happy to be marooned.

A perfect start in Providenciales.

If you haven’t met Turks & Caicos yet, the island of Providenciales will be a dreamy first date. It’s the most developed of all the islands, but don’t be fooled: This place is a natural paradise. When you picture a perfect beach, there’s a good chance it looks just like Grace Bay. Warm white sand. Turquoise water. And a very generous helping of Caribbean sunshine. Championship-caliber golf, world-class spas and stellar international dining are all waiting for you on this island. And if you’re interested in a bit of maritime history, check out the stone engravings from marooned sailors on Sapodilla Hill.

Travel Tip

Just because you didn’t bring your pooch doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy one’s company for the day. Potcake puppies (named after the mix of left overs in the dinner pot that locals feed them) can be adopted for the day or permanently from Potcake Place.

Discover natural wonder in North and Middle Caicos.

The North and Middle Caicos islands are ready to redefine your idea of beauty. And they’ll do it oh so naturally. Exploring lush North Caicos—locally known as the green island—you’ll inevitably spy a rosy cloud in the middle of the afternoon. Nope. It’s not sunset. It’s the enormous flock of flamingoes that call the island home. If you’re looking to get a sense of the island’s history, peruse the beautifully preserved grounds of Wade’s Green plantation. But if you want a bit more adventure, hop over to Middle Caicos where spelunkers rejoice. The Middle Caicos caves are a subterranean treat. If you’re looking to keep it surface level, Mudjin Harbor is bound to be the prettiest ocean panorama you’ve ever seen. And, since you’re an adventurer, you can walk the trail that links North and Middle Caicos at low tide.

Can’t decide between Providenciales and these laid-back islands? Have ‘em both. Ferries run between North Caicos and Providenciales daily.

Find colonial charm on Grand Turk.

Grand Turk is the capital island of Turks & Caicos, and the capital destination for dive enthusiasts. There’s no shortage of opportunities to snorkel or scuba, but Gibbs Cay is a can’t-miss. This tiny, uninhabited island is just a mile offshore and trimmed with sugar-white beaches. Bonus tip: Bring some snacks to feed the sting rays, and then explore the reef. If you just feel like lounging, you won’t even have to leave your beach towel for an unforgettable show during whale season. Ice-cold refreshment? Check. Humpback whale acrobatics? Check. When you’re not in the water, take a stroll through colorful and charming Cockburn Town, and be sure to check out the historic lighthouse.

It's always fun to use another nation’s currency, but it can be a headache. Luckily, U.S. currency is also the official currency in Turks & Caicos.
