Do not upgrade to preferred, you get virtually nothing for it. Colossal waste of your hard earned money. Food is ok but be prepared to wait. Minimal staff at the breakfast buffet and most food is behind glass so you have to be served. When no one there to serve you makes it very difficult to get the food? Barefoot grill food is ok for lunch but really the only choice poolside. Because main restaurants are so far from pool and beach area, and because elevators are so slow, be prepared to wait there too. I don't mind waiting a bit, I'm on vacation, but there are limits. Diner restaurants are ok, fairly quick turn around and good service. Pool area is large but because all pools are infinity minimal chairs for the size of the resort. Good luck getting a chair after 5:30am.

Absolutely wonderful! Service amazing….food at all places wonderful! Staff poolside was beyond perfect! Best guacamole we’ve ever had as well as French fries!!!! Ronaldo ….no words! You made our vacation! French restaurant was beyond amazing….had to go twice!

Location 5 star Hotel condition and amenities 4 star Food and Beverage 2 star Beautiful beach with different activities to do, quiet beach, busy pool. Food is not what I expected from a "5 star" hotel, very bland and limited. Beverages were low quality and nobody knew how to make an old fashioned. If you want margarites or mojitos, it's ok.

Miguel in Castaways is a very professional waiter. He attended and anticipated the needs of all guests. Andrea the hostess at Market Cafe was very kind and gave each guest special attention. Mariana booked our spa experience and was the reason we booked the couples massage. The 5 minute pool side massage was a nice bonus. She even shared some Mexican candy. Carlos and Yameli gave great service in the Market Cafe. Jesus the grounds keeper/gardener worked near the spa to clean up the flower beds and clearly showed pride in his work.

You get less for more
First time to Huatulco, or in the southern Pacific side of Mexico. First impression was that the resort was very dated. Check in took about 30 minutes. It was very crowded and not inviting. Once checked in we were pointed towards our room and that was it. The room was clean enough but still dated. Bed was comfortable, pillows were very lumpy and need to be replaced. Half the light bulbs were burnt out, fan only worked on high and the waterfall shower had 2 temperatures, hot and hot as hades. Fridge was stocked well, with various drinks. The property is fairly nice with multiple pools. If you want a lounge chair, you will need to place your towel by 6am. There is room for more loungers, they just need to put them in. Restaurants are hit and miss. The Italian was very good, the steakhouse was not good at all, bland steak, small sides. Buffets were ok, not near the variety as other Secrets we have visited. Beach is beautiful, but not the fine white sand you find in the Caribbean. Walk to the beach is somewhat steep. Elderly or people with bad knees will have issues going back up to the pool area. Staff is very friendly. Getting drink refills is pretty slow, especially if you are not sitting at the bar. They need double the staff for getting drinks around the pool area. And if you want a gym at your resort, don’t even bother. They have a bench press w/ bar, but no plates, dumbbells to 50 lbs and a few kettlebells. Very disappointing. Do not bother with the “preferred” package. The preferred lounge is like an office with a bar. Very crowded and uninviting. No blender, so drinks are limited. Doesn’t fell preferred at all. One thing that has turned us off to Secrets resorts is that they been bought out by Hyatt. Now every visit is a sales pitch, like a time share. I came for vacation and to not be hassled. All in all the give it a 3.3. Pricing should be almost half, IMO. The Secrets name seems to bring people in, it did for us. But it lacks the modern updates and basic maintenance that resort this project ce should have.
- AdvisoryStudent Groups (Spring Breakers) are not permitted at Hotel. A student group consist of those that travel without parent supervision or a responsible adult in each room.
