Fantastic overall resort on west side of Maui (Lahaina area)
We stayed here back in 2014 with our 3 boys. When searching for a place to stay this time around, we immediately looked for availability at Honua Kai. This resort offers much, much more for the complete vacation experience. The resort is grand, clean, spacious, plenty of amenities to relax. The 3 or 4 pools and a few hot tub spots around will have already relaxed our senses. The grounds are beautiful and tidy. The beautiful ocean is a mere walk across the well-manicured lawns, past the pools, and right onto the golden sands of Maui beach. We can walk to eat or a short drive, both of which offers variety of choices. Or opt for light cooking in the unit or grill on 4 readily available ocean-front huge gas grills. Or choose to savor at the famous Duke's restaurant, right on this property. We rented through Maui Resorts Rentals as we had done previously. They were very responsive to our needs during our stay. Their fee adder breaks down to ~$65/day, so take advantage of their expertise and knowledge should you are new travelers to Maui. We can't say enough as to why we love this resort!

Best stay ever on Maui
What a wonderful property. We’ve been to Maui many times but first time here. When we return this is where we will stay. Pricey but worth it. Beautiful large rooms/condo. Comfortable beds. Our studio faced courtyard and ocean. Amazing view (see photos). Staff very friendly. The pools (there are 4-5) are great. Dukes restaurant on the property. Quiet end of Kanapali beach. And beach is amazing. Best snorkeling we’ve ever had was right on beach here!

Family Reunion at Honua Kai’s Luana Garden Villas
Luana Garden Villas at the Honua Kai Resort provided the perfect spot for our family reunion. We rented six villas for our group of 33 family members, ages 6-90 (Honua Kai has both resort towers and villas). The villas were modern, clean, and spacious. The sliding doors on the lanais opened completely, allowing for easy indoor and outdoor space to relax, eat, and enjoy. The pool area at the center of the villa enclaves were perfect for the little ones to enjoy (big enough for kids to play Marco Polo) but small enough to feel private. The pool areas had a hot tub for the adults to relax, which was nice after a long day of activities. Bigger pools (including a lazy river and slides) were available by the resort towers for added fun. And, of course, ewsy access to Kaanapali beach was wonderful. Having Dukes restaurant right on the property made it easy to grab a meal when we didn’t want to cook in our villa. We rented 3 ground floor villas and 3 second floor villas. They were all wonderful but I’ll say the second floor units had more light and prettier views (you can’t see the ocean but you can see the garden landscape) and fewer bugs. The ground floor units inevitably had more bugs, as it’s a tropical place and bugs will come in if you open the lanai doors. This isn’t as “ritzy” as staying at the Four Seasons in Wailea or Ritz Carlton in Kapalua, but for a family reunion, I really appreciated the extra space, modern villas, and way fewer crowds. It was a wonderful home base!

Fantastic First Stay on Maui!
Excellent resort in an excellent location. This was our first time in Maui and we decided to stay in the Kaanapali area at the Honua Kai. We rented through a resort rental company and were impressed with how easy the check in process was. Be sure to grab groceries on the way to the resort (in Kahului). The condo we had was amazing, 2 beds and two baths for three adults and two children. There are numerous elevators in the building, so you will always be near one, with direct access to the underground parking garage. The resort has multiple pools and none were never really crowded, but things started to pick up the weekend before the 4th of July. Having Dukes’s on the resort was a bonus, being able to place orders poolside. The beach at the resort is pristine with reefs for snorkeling. There are food trucks and a grocery store with in walking distance. The onsite store is a bit pricey. We will definitely be back!
