Very good resort - with just a couple of problems.
Ok- so this place is the largest resort Ive stayed at in the Hawaiian Islands. Only resort similar is another Sheraton. The Sheraton Poipu in Kauai. Here are the goods: 1) Probably the best beach on the island. Amazing clarity of water. Easy swimming for all ages. The waves are easy and mellow here, unlike some of the Kaanapali Beach north of here especially where theres a sharper drop and waves the bunch up and break and create awkward near-beach conditions (first world problem, I know). BUt the beach sand and ocean water clarity and ease of ocean swimming here is the best Ive seen anywhere in the islands maybe except for the reef protected Anini Beach in Kauai. 2) THe grounds are super easy on the eyes. Beautiful looking. Well manicured. Lovely. 3) Complete unfair advantage for this resort - having multi levels due to its position on top of, mid-level and down amongst and around BLACK ROCK rock outcrop here makes for a very impressive setting. 4) The service and staff people were nearly all really nice and accomodating. I have many examples of this but wont write them here due to length/conciseness. 5) Their breakfast buffet and regular menu is really really high quality. Loco Moco really good. Lots and lots of variety at the buffet, which is nicely open until 11AM every day. Good for a night owl like me. 6) Luau - the Luau was great. Second best to only the Old Lahaina Luau weve been to. Really well done. The MC was seriously amazing. The colors of their outfits and the lighting was amazing. The sound quality was solid. They had an extensive FIRE DANCE - which was spectacular. And the food was all really really good. I rate this as a 10/10. Could not want more ffrom a Luau. Negatives: THere are a few GLARING negatives, which I didnt NOT expect from a resort this nice. 1) Hey Sheraton - what are you doing with ONLY having 2 beach/pool showers. And they arent even the four-way (four people at same time) facing showers. THey are pathetically ONE direction. One shower. And one of the showers had feeble drippings for water pressure. What are you doing? I asked three separate staff members, and they laughed it off saying they fixed it and it broke again several times. Im like bro - you guys make money hand over fist here. Have good showers to wash off the salt water. IMO one of the most important things to have right after swimming in the ocean. A quick fresh water rinse-off. Come on. PAthetic. The south end shows works better - better pressure - but still a ONE directional shower, so there are often a bunch of sucker/saps waiting in line for it. What are you doing Sheraton? One time I went next door to the Outrigger to shower because they have normal showers with normal pressure and several showers. Again - what are you doing. You NEED to fix this. 2) Beach chairs. Are you kidding with 30 dollars a day for a beach chair? Oh and they are just sitting there as you go from the pool down the pathetic ONLY 2 beach paths to the beach with no sign facing the resort. So myself and many other people just grabbed a chair and were walking to the beach with it, not knowing you even had to pay for it. Only to be flagged down by a staff member saying "sir, you need to pay for that". Only to look back and see the sign HIDDEN and barely visible that says you have to pay for them - TINY sign hidden in the coastal plant (beach naupaka) that borders/separates beach/uplands through the islands. Again - WHAT are you doing with this? And charging that much money for a freaking chair. What are you doing. Now I understand charging for a cabana. Thats legit. But this is pathetic. Fortunately - we rented Tommy Bahama chairs right up the road at The Snorkel Store. They are great and have good shave ice too (when you cant go to Ululanis). But give me a break with the chair situation. 3) Rooms - We stayed in a room on the far south wing of the resort, up on the 4th floor. The views were beautiful - looking down over the grass/palm tree open area where they have the Luau and out to Black Rock. Unbelievably beautiful. So that was the good part. The shower water pressure (all that matters in a resort shower) - was very good. Id say a 9/10. Really good. The room is adequate. Its pretty mid as to size. But good enough. AIr conditioning - really good. Night fan for sleep background noise was pretty good. Balcony was very good. Providing those amazing views and great little chairs to sit on for when you wake up and have your morning coffee or Guava Juice (make sure to have Guava juice, come on now). Really good balcony. Not big. But just big enough. Comfortable. The one BIG NOT GOOD thing about the room - paper thin walls. Bro we could hear the neighbors doing everything. On both sides left and right and above us stomping across their room. So much so that the one side had a 3 year old (or so) that wouldnt shutup. Like starting at 730AM. Bro it Hawaii. Its vacation. Im sleeping in until 10AM. Two mornings in a row this baby and their disrespectful/unaware parent kept us up all morning. So much so that we had to move rooms. Hey Sheraton - you are a top tier resort. What are you doing having such thin walls. They dont feel thin. They are strong and solid cement. But they are thin. 4) Too big - Resort is too big. Now, if you had an easier/more efficient way to get across the resort or up to your rooms, this would be fine. But there is no Elevator in the south wing of the resort (described above). So you have to walk forever to get from the main part of the resort/restaurant/etc - to get over to your room/back. And no elevator to get up to the room except right near the check in area. Again, what are you doing? And it takes a few days to even figure this out. Otherwise its the stairs for you - and we were on the 4th floor. Again, WHY? Put an elevator out on the end of that wing. We arent at the resort to get sweaty and a workout just to get around the resort. Who planned this? Not good. Follow up to some of the above 4 items - Now, we moved rooms due to the disrespectful family making way too much noise early in the AM. I told the front desk lady who was nice and pragmatic and eventually moved us to an UPGRADED "cliff" room. She said "we have a room up on the cliff". I immediately assumed that was a really good thing. Man - and it WAS. Most unbelievably located room location Ive ever stayed in and Ive been to Hawaii 20 times. And other great tropical locations. So - this eased our frustration massively. Nothing but blue ocean, Molokai one way and Lanai the other as you step out on the Lanai (balcony). Kaanapali - the entire beach view to the north with black rock north side in the foreground. Really amazing. Oh - and NO crying baby next door. We had all quiet neighbors the rest of the trip. So that was really nice of them to upgrade us - and for no charge. Overall - I give this resort an 8/10. It should be a 10/10. But come on with those glaring things I mention above.

Great property but prepare to be nickeled and dimed
phenomenal beach. great stay and location. near golf, and cute little outdoor strip mall w numerous restaurants and other places to eat. the BAD part was that you get tickled and dimed. I've never stayed at a resort that charges for beach umbrellas! $100/day!! and that doesn't include tax and tip. outrageous. AND don't lose the water bottle that they give u b/c they will charge you $5. left a bad taste. oh and breakfast is $50/person

We had a great time!
We checked in on a Thursday and right away we were upgraded to a suite, I looked up the price of the room and it was double of what I originally booked. We originally in a Moana with a lanai which is in a really far part of the resort that I didn't know when I booked it so we were very happy with the upgrade to the ohana suite which is centrally located and has its own living room and a third Murphy bed which would be perfect for a family. The beach there is amazing, you do have to rent chairs and an umbrella but on the second day we were given chairs by a nice couple so we only had to rent an umbrella the rest of the time which is about $45 a day. I think we went in a shoulder season because the beach wasn't that busy but I could see it getting busy because it's such a good location and the snorkeling is beyond. We saw turtles which after a few days so you can turtles more common but also a deal and spotted eagle rays. The food was really good you just have to do your research on the restaurants beforehand, having a Starbucks on premise and being able to have a smaller breakfast did help save some money. You're also able to order food to the resort like order pizza so if you don't want to eat at the resort every meal you don't have to but the food especially at the cliff dive grill was really really good. The staff were friendly and helpful and the resort even though it was built in 1963, to be was up to par. Well hopefully be returning!

Over priced and over rated.
Overrated and overpriced. The photos, that perfect picture of the sand and beach is the only thing I can say was good. There was nothing about this resort I can could truly send a family or friend to without feeling good about it. The rooms, the common areas and how the resort is designed makes no sense but they sure do find a way to charge you an enormous amount of money for every thing you do comes with a big price at this resort. You are already a paying guest, what justifies charging a guest a parking fee at the resort you are paying to stay at that comes with, taxes, resorts fees the list go's on and on. My family and I will never return to this resort or Maui again. Be mindful when going to Maui. The business and the locals will take advantaged of you as everything is so over priced my family and I can think of many other beautiful places to visit that doesn't require us to fly 5 hours and land to have people spend your money for you. What a joke this was and how dare you people treat your visitors the way you are when we are the ones helping Maui get back on their feet after the fires.

Pretty hotel but quite dated
Have stayed here a few times. Dated but well appointed guest suites all with very pretty vistas. Rooms are quite comfortable and always clean. Common areas of the resort are very dated and rough around the edges. The breakfast host at the restaurant downstairs is extremely rude and unprofessional.
