Beautiful hotel, food and service miss the mark
During the weekend I stayed here there was what appeared to be a graduation party for a local middle school and a couple weddings. So perhaps my experience was not entirely normal. The hotel is beautiful, perched on a steep hill above a beautiful beach. Rooms are comfortable and there is a lovely pool. It is not a huge resort but the hills and la k ic elevators are a workout. My main complaint is the food which skews bland and fried. The burger place is revolting. Getting a spot at a restaurant is challenging so we mostly ate at the buffet which is repetitive. There is entertainment at the pool which is mostly an annoying woman screaming in Spanish over irritating music. So loud and unpleasant. Service is slow and often you don’t get what you asked for - no housekeeping or fresh towels for 4 days despite requests.

Planet Hollywood: Where Expectations Go to Die
We recently stayed at Planet Hollywood Costa Rica expecting a relaxing, high-quality resort experience. Instead, we got an exhausting reminder that flashy branding can’t cover up poor service and weak execution. For a resort that constantly boasts about “VIP treatment with Star Pass,” the service was shockingly inattentive. Basic requests were ignored or took so long that we stopped bothering. The Pros: - The bartender Paulo and the barkeep Jonathon at the Break Point pool bar were exceptional - attentive, responsive and courteous - The food at the various restaurants were good (a little salty) The Cons: - This hotel is not at all accommodating. 22 of us went for a Bday. We booked a trip with Amstar to Nicaragua which they told us was 6hrs round trip. The trip lasted 17hrs. - My cousin had a trip planned the next day, but she was exhausted and not feeling well from the Nicaraguan trip the day before but they refused / did not refund her money. - One of my cousins got stung by a huge scorpion IN HER ROOM, and they wanted to charge HER $130 to see a doctor !! Outrageous !! - The food in the So Cal "Gourmet" main dining hall was NOT "gourmet". Dry / Salty / Stale - Star Pass - DO NOT upgrade - Green Room had NO Top Shelf liquor - NONE and the desert was the same as everywhere and anyone can access - No Top Shelf liquor at Lobby Bar - they said it ran out - No scotch / No Bourbon - Room was the same as any other room - fridge filled stocked with local beer - Room Service - Limited menu - 45min wait minimum - Bar - A corona will cost you $6 each - for Star Class - Vibe - Forced, hollow, and exhausting. Everywhere shuts down at 10pm except for the Overtime Bar (1:00am) where blasting music seems to be their solution for everything—ambiance, energy, distraction, including drowning out complaints. If Planet Hollywood Costa Rica is what passes for a “luxury resort,” then the hospitality industry owes us all an apology. Planet Hollywood Costa Rica is a glitter-coated catastrophe. A resort this aggressively mediocre shouldn’t cost what it does, and frankly, it shouldn’t even call itself “luxury” with a straight face. If you enjoy disappointment, noise, tackiness, and the slow burn of buyer’s remorse, this is your paradise. If you value your time, money, or sanity, go anywhere else.

Really disappointed - this is NO Autograph Collection level resort.
My husband and I travelled with another couple to this resort last month. Two of us have a really high loyalty to Marriott Properties. When we saw this was an Autograph collection we were really excited, and for "Star Class" it wasn't that much more of an expense to book a few nights. Were the views great? Yes, the rooms (at least ours were very nice). Some of the staff was stellar. In particular the bartenders at the star class pool, the resorts sommelier, and some of the restaurant staff. But these folks were the exception not the rule. Much of the staff is complacent including the butler service you get with the upgraded star class. "Special" Star class check in took an exceptionally long amount of time and I am pretty sure there wasn't a room on property available by 3:00. I think most of us checking in that day had a delay. THe room taking longer? No biggie, we thought oh hey let's get a cocktail. The special star class "green room" stocked with a weird assortment of alcohol and no mixers unless you want your cucumber vodka with soda or water. No snacks either. So we're like cool let's go to the main bar and get a drink. No tequila. They were out. Okay, let's get some food at buffet. It was mediocre at best. The food at the hotel in general was mediocre. The italian was decent, the steak house okay, the buffet remained inconsistent. The place we could go to star class breakfast was the ONLY breakfast place that had bacon. Oh, and as others have said the pool food hamburger situation it took a lot of time and was not the best. Also, I know regular old yellow mustard, not a staple in other countries. But there was ZERO yellow mustard. JUST honey mustard. If you are going to serve american staples like hamburgers and hotdogs? I think mustard seems obvious. And no one cared much about this on staff. Our butler wasn't at work when we arrived so we spent 24 hours just trying to secure restaurant reservations because we couldn't do it before we got there, and then they were all booked. The resort did give us a cabana as an apology one afternoon - but you can't get the upgraded star class alcohol ANYWHERE other than the star class pool bar and they can't run up there. We also didn't get a welcome bottle of wine until the day before we left. I value my vacation and with an Autograph collection resort I was expecting to be blown away. I am shocked Marriot puts this banner on this property. Additionally, and again I know standards are different in different places but this is not a very accessible resort if you are traveling with someone with mobility issues. There are ZERO handrails on staircases and LOTS of staircases. There aren't ramps from the star pool area to the other pools. The pool bathrooms remain so wet they are treacherous, and pool towels were constantly running low. And stuff would just be out at bars etc. Mint at one bar, none at another, etc. I did let Marriott know all of this. They let the hotel know who sent me the same canned response they post here. I then called Marriott again and they threw some points at me due to my status, but the number of points wouldn't even get me a night at the JW Marriott in my city. I hope the hotel management does start to take these complaints seriously. I am pleased for everyone who enjoyed their stay - my caution is for people who are thinking this is a 4.5+ star property. If you are a really seasoned traveler, this may not be the place for you. We will DEFINITELY go back to Costa Rica - but not here.

Planet Holiday is a Nightmare filled with frustration and disappointment.
We stayed for two nights at Planet Hollywood Costa Rica, and unfortunately, I would strongly advise others to look elsewhere. The experience did not match the high price point. Service at the pool was particularly disappointing. Bartenders refused to make drinks that were clearly listed on the menu, arguing with servers instead of helping guests. Ordering snacks by the pool took over an hour, making the wait just as frustrating as the service itself. Dinner reservations were another major issue. The system constantly showed no availability, yet when we arrived, the restaurants had plenty of empty tables. It was extremely frustrating and made no sense. Additionally, it was very evident that much of the staff is new and poorly trained. Several didn’t seem to know what the hotel offers or how to assist guests properly. Overall, this hotel fell far below expectations in every way. For the cost, the value simply isn’t there. I would highly recommend choosing a different resort to avoid the nightmare experience we had during our stay.

Planet Hollywood Costa Rice - The starring role in our perfect vacation!!!
I must say, I believe this has been the most and best service we have ever received at any resort! Each and every employee outserved the next. You are all Stars!! The food was excellent. William in the Steakhouse was Excellent with our Romantic Dinner service and planning. It was perfect to the T. It was delicious in the Wine Celllar. Sherlene from the Steakhouse also provided excellent service to help us get situated with our Reservations when she worked the main desk in the Lobby. My hubby loved the Spa. We recommend the Star Service upgrade as well. The Star Pool Employees also were very attentive and the bartenders made our drinks with expertise and pleasant talk. The servers were very efficient as well. The main Buffet foods were very tasty and served both my hubby who is a picky eater and myself good meals. Each Themed Restaurant speaks for itself in quality service and great dinners. The Star Breakfast in the Tex Mex was one of our favorite places to visit. The greeter and servers were excellent. It offered a quieter choice for a morning meal. Would we return again.....absolutely, in a minute!!!
