This is my 2nd time staying at the Outrigger Reef ….we went 3 years ago and they’ve made some amazing updates at the hotel with anABC store in the hotel ! Starbucks and monkey pod restaurant……check in was easy ..we arrived before 3p and our room was ready but he asked us if we could wait till 3p he would get us a better room in the ocean tower …no problem…I wish I could remember his name ….. we grabbed a bit to eat at Kani ka pila poolside restaurant…..great service …food was good …..Lilly was the sweetest room attendant and left us the nicest note …..the hotel is close to everything! You can walk to restaurants, shopping ,the beach ….the beach is small but you can walk further down for a bit more space ….we spent most of the time at the pool…never had to fight for a chair … being off season probably helped ….we rented a car through Voyager and it was about a 10 min walk to pick it up … If I come back to Hawaii I’ll always stay the Reef ……

Vacation
Rooms are clean (thanks to Nena!). Staff are friendly. Lots of restaurants, shopping, and bars within walking distance. Our request to have our rooms near each other was not honored and we were placed on 3 different floors. Beach is small and disappointing. You will need to rent chairs and umbrellas if you want to sit on something other than a towel. Overall, would not stay here again.

Outrigger Reef Family Vacay
We had a wonderful stay at Outrigger Reef! Everyone, from the pool guys, to the front desk, to our housekeeping crew, was so friendly and helpful. We especially loved our housekeeping crew! Mary did a great job and was the sweetest. She even remembered our names each time we saw her ❤️

Our third stay and we got a spacious room!
My sister-in-law and brother wanted to visit Waikiki to celebrate her birthday. I recommended the Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort. We had stayed at this hotel in 2023 and 2024 and enjoyed the property and service. We booked a Pacific Tower Ocean-View Room - One King Bed for 5 nights through CostcoTravel. Our package included daily breakfast at the Monkeypod Kitchen. OOBE - We experienced a couple of OOBE disappointments. First was that morning early check-in was not possible. The hotel was not crowded. There must have been some behind-the-scenes circumstance causing the unavailability. - When I enquired about room readiness around 1:45 pm, we were offered an Ocean Tower Ocean View room with 2 Queen beds in lieu of a Pacific Tower room that was resort-side facing. We accepted the offer. Curious about doing a review for the Ocean Tower. - We were pleased by Frank at reception who was understanding of our wishes. I will also put a good word in for Ambrose who was also at reception later on. ONTO THE HIGHLIGHTS - We stayed in a very spacious corner unit that had windows on two sides. This was an Ocean Tower Ocean-View Room - Two Queen Beds on the 7th floor. This may have been an ADA accessible room because there was plenty of open floor space, and the bathroom had numerous grab bars. - Breakfast at Monkeypod Kitchen was great. Great food. Great views. Great service. - The bed and bedding were very comfortable, and we got great sleep every night. - Room temperature control worked great. White noise from the vents was a little loud at 71 dB, but ok since the room is quite large and the beds were a distance from the vents. - We met our housekeeping staff, Sonya D and Koon Lin. Our room was well-kept and they assisted with a couple of requests (a shaving kit and checking a problem with the shower). SOME GOOD. SOME NOT SO GOOD. - We had an issue with the shower water temperature. A comfortable temperature could not be held...every few seconds, we would get a spurt of scalding hot water and then a douse of frigid cold water seemingly related to changes in the water pressure. - - We reported the problem at the front desk the next morning. I called Resort Services about the problem in the late afternoon to follow up, and Roy from maintenance came soon after and promptly switched out the mixing valve and that resolved the hazard. - We noted that the 2025 Outrigger-branded water bottle has evolved from the 2024 version which had evolved from the 2023 version...we like the latest version the most. - I double-checked with the front desk that we had an ocean view room. We don’t think it is. The picture of the room on the hotel website shows a clear view of Diamond Head and Waikiki Beach Cove. From inside our room looking out, you only see the neighboring hotel’s (tall) building. You have to be standing close to or on the lanai to get to see the ocean horizon at an acute angle and even then most of the view is of buildings or building rooftops. Not a good backdrop for photographs. Definitely had better views on our previous stays in Partial Ocean View rooms. - Free WiFi was slow with SpeedTest results of 4.79 Mbps Download and 4.45 Mbps Upload. We needed to connect one more device (there is a 5 device limit) and called internet services technical support to get another MAC address manually added. - The closet doors were very sticky and required hard pushing to move. - The bath amenities (shampoo, conditioner, shower gel) are Navasana Collection with a Coconut Lime fragrance. The body lotion and cleansing bar soap are from Noni. All seemed like mid-grade products which is fine because they serve their purposes effectively. The amenity I would ask someone at the hotel to try is the shaving kit - Outrigger-labeled and supplied by Navasana Collection; the razor in that kit is awful and gives a very uncomfortable shave. - Not sure when maintenance would come to fix the shower issue, I wanted to leave a note describing the problem. The room does not have a pen and pad. Housekeeping did not have a hotel pen and pad either. I borrowed a pen from housekeeping and wrote the note on a piece of scrap paper. - Absence of spa robes and slippers is still a noticed shortcoming. Note that the website description for Accessible Ocean Tower Ocean View does mention bathrobe and slippers. IN THE END, WE ENJOYED OUR STAY. Despite the few under-deliver issues and disappointments, we still would recommend a stay at the Outrigger Reef Waikiki Beach Resort. Specifically on a high floor in the Pacific Tower facing the Fort DeRussy Beach Park side. The Aloha feel and energy is wonderful here, and it’s a great place to relax and enjoy.
