Great 10 year revisit!
The attention to detail was excellent. The food was great. The spa was wonderful. My wife and I enjoyed our ten year aniversary where we started our journey We were glad that the hotel has maintained its original core Beauty and service without losing sight of the surroundings. It maintained the simplicity and beauty of design despite its expansion. We love getting around by boat; it gives the resort a feeling of being remote even though it is attached to the city by a road to San Pedro. We preffered to stay at Matachica for the much needed rest and relaxation; and only went to San Pedro to go to Amigos del Mar dive shop.

A Magical Place
What a magical place! We stayed at Matachica for the last week of January 2025 and had a wonderful time. Our only complaint is that this place may have ruined any future hotel stay elsewhere. It’s hard to imagine anything else measuring up to this. The property is spectacular, and I highly recommend upgrading to one of the sea-view casitas. Waking up to the water right at your door is an incredible experience. The room was spacious and clean, and housekeeping left nice little notes for us each day and were always helpful if we needed anything. All the staff were excellent, particularly Silvano, who ran the outdoor bar during our week. He was very knowledgeable and made delicious cocktails. We enjoyed chatting and joking with him, and he showed us how to win over Taco (the resort’s resident black lab) with a game of ‘fetch the coconut’. Kayaks and snorkel gear are complimentary, and Eli was so friendly and helpful in getting us set to head out to the reef, where we saw nurse sharks, stingrays, and tons of tropical fish and coral. The restaurant was also excellent. Although it is pricier than other places on the island, you get what you pay for. We did not have a single disappointing meal, and you can tell the quality of the ingredients is high. It was an unforgettable stay. We hope to come back one day!

Beautiful location, kindest of hosts, the most knowledgeable guides and delicious food every day at Matachica.
This resort was the best place for my husband i to come to for our anniversary. The location and all the casitas were lovely. Most of the staff were super friendly and everyone was pretty helpful. Only downside was the early morning wake ups to ask us if we wanted to venture out on the sea tours if it was a bit sprinkling or windy. A couple concierge and front desk staff seemed annoyed at all of my questions. Every single other person was amazing. Jobe and Marrow took us out our first day and they were a lot of fun and Jobe was so knowledgeable and i could tell he cared deeply of the sea. The wait staff inside was super nice and always helpful. We really cant wait to come back to Matachica. We left this resort to spend another week on the southern coast (placencia) and this is where we want to come back to. I also want to mention that the housekeeping went out of their way every day to leave us the sweetest notes when we would come back to our room. And sometimes they would check it mid day and tidy a thing or two up again for us. And i never saw them!!! I love this place.

Matachica- just wonderful
The most spectacular arrival by a short flight then a speedboat ride. Our choice for a welcome drink had been radioed ahead and was waiting for us on the jetty. And so started a 4 night stay in one of the most beautiful, friendly and calm places we have ever been.....

Food poisoning and bed bugs.
Almost all of the staff were incredibly wonderful, helpful. Unfortunately we had a few bad experiences: there were bugs in our bed, biting our ankles, feet. The staff member we told was the one who didn’t project the type of service you’d expect. We were moved to another room we’re we immediately found bugs in those beds too. We asked if there were any other beds, we were told there was one single bed as an alternate option but that was it. The next day it was time to leave and we discovered the resort was only 60% full so why weren’t we offered any of the other empty beds? We got food poisoning as did another guest at the same time. It was awful except that the staff were exceptionally sympathetic and kind bringing tea water toast etc to our room while we tried to rally. And the manager let us know they’d take us to a hospital if we wanted. That gave us piece of mind. Our reservation letter confirmed 3 meals a day. At check in we were told that was a typo. The snorkeling outing was a lot of fun, as advertised.
