Nov 08, 2025Hotel OK but no stairs to quiet pool, music too loud, 2 hours to Cancun airport
My experience at Dreams Tulum was mostly positive. I would rate the hotel at 7/10 because there were no stairs to get in/out of quiet pool, hotel is 2 hours from Cancun airport and there was limited variety on the buffet. Any hotel that refuses to accommodate guests with mobility challenges to get in/out of pool because of their short coming in not putting stair access, gets very bad marks with me. I would never return to this hotel unless stairs were added to the quiet pool, Our room was good except for the slippery shower. Non slip strips need to be put on the marble as walking on marble when it is wet is very dangerous. Food was good but the buffet needs more choices. Had the same food day after day and catered to more Mexican tastes. Some of the specialty restaurants were closed because staff were busy with day of dead celebrations. I prefer eating in the specialty restaurants where I can be served. I was impressed by how extensive the celebrations for day of the dead were. The noise level was way too loud from 9-11 pm. They need to turn down the amplifiers. The last night of the celebrations, the walls in the Portofino restaurant were vibrating from the amplifiers turned on full blast and you could hear the noise even in your room. Quiet pool had no stairs to get in/out. I asked the concierge Gabriela to create a make shift plastic stair so I could go in and out but she would do nothing. She was only concerned with the water quality and not with pleasing her guests. I could not climb the metal stairs to get out of the quiet pool as I am older and have had knee and hip replacements. Many others were also struggling to get out, even those who were 50 years old because joint difficulties. I preferred the quiet pool as the music was basting all day. I found her lack of concern and her unwillingness to do anything a black mark against the hotel When they renovated the hotel in 2023, they made a new pool with 3 sets of stairs but did not bother to put in a corner stair in the quiet pool . I consider this to be very poor management showing little concern for guests with mobility issues. Service was very good. Preferred club does not give you a personalized butler like other resorts but access to the preferred lounge and own space on the beach. Regular drink service by the quiet pool and beach was very good. Had ample towels and you could take as many as you needed. You did not need to turn in old towels to get fresh ones. That was very appreciated Beach was lovely to look at but you could not swim there as it was rocky getting in/out and there is a sharp drop off once you get it. There was a lot of sand in the water. Has constant service of drinks by pool and beach and did not need to pay anyone to reserve a chair and towel. Hotel had an old world charm which I enjoyed. So many hotels are so modern you do not know which country you are in. Décor was good in the preferred area. Hotel is a 2 hour bus ride from Cancun airport which is a long drive after travelling all day to get to Mexico

what a great experience
I most definitely will be coming back to this resort every time I choose to come to tulum. Everything was better than expected.
