Worst. Resort. Ever.
Hard to find somewhere to start…. Our room was often left without towels. When we asked for clean ones we were provided dirty ones (obviously dirty, almost dyed yellow). Don’t pay for the sunclub upgrade. Not worth it because they have no system to decipher between guest. No wristbands or anything. Kids running all over the “adult only” section. You’ll have 30 minutes for a drink at any given bar. Restaurants don’t take reservations so you need to go down an hour early atleast and then stay in the vicinity till the beeper goes off(you hope there’s somewhere to grab a drink nearby). Our maid took our robes out of our room on the first night and never replaced them. If you want a beach towel for the day you must be down there at 8 or 9 am or else they run out and don’t have any for the rest of the day. They play very little music around the resort. And give you heck when you try to play some for yourself. Very little security around the beach so many locals heckling you to buy things when your trying to relax on your expensive vacation. As someone who has travelled many places around the Caribbean this resort was beyond a terrible experience. Even if it costs a little more. Trust me it’s worth it to go somewhere else.

Disappointed
Sunscape Coco Punta Cana Hubby and I have been to Punta Cana at least 10+ times. First time we’ve been to Sunscape Coco. Most important sentence: if you usually book a 2 or 3 star, you will LOVE this place. It will exceed all your expectations and more. If you are used to a 4 or 5 star, you will be disappointed. It’s about a 3.5 The only shining stars of this place is : Jorge the concierge —- if you are blessed enough to have him and his wonderful smile and attitude, he will make your holiday memorable and enjoyable despite the surroundings. Cannot say enough good things about him. He is on top of everything and will take care of you in a gracious and genuine manner. He is more than 5 star, he is the only reason this entire resort is worthy of stars. Without Jorge, it would be only a 1 or 2 star. Jocelina in housekeeping will also make sure you are well taken care of and will take the extra steps to ensure everything is perfect.! Buffet Kaleidoscope: be ready to wait in line and get your utensils from another table and sneak some water on your own. The tables are sticky and dirty. They only dry wipe them, we saw it. I couldn’t even believe how much they ignored you, never offered even water until you were ready to go. Food tasted worse than a seniors home residence. No spice, no salt, no pepper, no flavour. Buffet Windows: better service. You do not have to get your own stuff, but the food is the same. No theme nights, no changes. Blue water grill: Don’t even. We had couples sit after us, receive their appetizers before us, their mains before us and then finish and even complained on our behalf that we were never served. We left that restaurant after an hour of being ignored. Hungry. Asido: $30 (US) per person. Thursdays only. On the beach with entertainment. Good food and good service. Wonderful atmosphere. Great times. Completely worth the money… but for a 4 star, why isn’t this good food and service included? Common Hyatt. Tierra: surprisingly very good! It was the one place we weren’t very excited about but it was fabulous. Service was good, food was good and the atmosphere was fantastic. However, it is accessible by stairs only, so not very accessible for all. Dimario/Tico Taco : I put these in the same category because it’s the same place. Some nights it is Italian and some nights it is Mexican but it’s the same place. Both places are okay. Not much more that I can say but okay. The appetizers and deserts are buffet-style. Only the main is ordered off the menu and both times was just okay. I mean, we don’t exactly go there for the food, so okay. Chopsticks Teppanyaki : amazing show. The chef that put on the show was better than any of the other 5+ star resorts we’ve been.! Incredible! On the downside, we couldn’t order a glass of saki with our meal. Not offered with the Japanese restaurant. If you want to buy an entire bottle, they will sell you one. Sunnyside grill. Meh. So bland I don’t even remember Pools: don’t expect to get a chair unless you get up at 6am to reserve. Not enough chairs. Don’t expect pool side service either. **IF** we received any poolside service it was maybe once a day. The rest of the day you have to line up at the bar and wait. Towels: you get a special ‘card’ in which you can trade in for ONE towel. You can then trade in that towel for another towel or for your towel card back. If you don’t have your towel card by the end of your visit, you will be charged $20 per towel card. Service: all in all, expect to wait in line. Wait to check in, wait to eat, wait to get a drink. Wait, wait, wait. Be patient. The staff are great but they really need more. They do the best they can with what they have. More staff would fix so many issues. Beach: pretty good and clean for the area. We’ve been to several and this resort works hard to do their best. Any of the Bali beds have to be reserved and paid for — different prices depending on which tier you choose. Bottles in your room? Extra charge. Bali beds on the beach? Extra charge. Steak and lobster? Extra charge. All in all: will we go back? No. Not due to service, again, they do amazing with what they have. Hyatt needs to supply more workers to help people have a better experience.

Budget resort. Staff never smiles. Would recommend staying elsewhere.
The resort is definitely a budget resort. Our first room was with the general population and was called a "Deluxe Tropical View"...it was an interior room on the ground floor leading out to a small lazy river-like pool. Our shower drain ended up not working at all and flooded our entryway because there is no door on the shower, nor lip on the basin to keep the water in. We had to have maintenance come out three times and show them it wasn't working after they said they fixed it. Finally, they allowed us to switch rooms but we were going to have to downgrade for a night and then switch rooms again. We ended up paying a discounted price to then go ahead and get into the Sunclub "honeymoon suite"...I would never book a honeymoon here. Upgrading to the Sunclub was definitely worth it as it has its own bars, buffet, pool, and roped-off beach area. The beach area was the best part as in the general area you have a salesman coming up to you literally every 5 minutes whether you are reading, sleeping, or mid-conversation. They make it impossible to relax, but luckily they don't go in the Sunclub area. The top thing that I noticed was that only about 3 out of the 50 staff we dealt with ever smiled. Otherwise, it seemed you were burdening them by just being there. Food at the restaurants was mediocre and service at the steak one was awful. We waited over 25 minutes before getting our order taken and had to ask multiple times. Otherwise, the beach area was kept clean and the water was not too dirty. The magic show and water aerobics show were entertaining and we never had to wait too long to get a drink at a bar. I would definitely say to bring your own cups to use. Also, make sure you note what is included with your reservation when you book it. If it includes a bottle of liquor or breakfast they will not ask you about this and it is up to you to bring it up and seek out the person to schedule it. I would not pay over $200/night for this resort, and know that you are getting what you are paying for going into it.

Adults Only Stay - Swim Out & Swim-up Rooms
Overall, I must say that we had a very positive experience. The food was great, the rooms were very clean, the fridge was always stocked, and it was very easy to navigate the property, the beach, the shows, etc. The entertainment was also quite good. I would recommend you try it, but bear in mind that there are always things that you should look out for. We had two rooms for 4 ppl. One Swim-out, and one pool access. Depending what you want, the Swim-out is very private and not much to see back there other than the pool and a hedge that goes along the border. The pool-access room was more lively and walked directly out to the adult only pool. That's where our group spent most of our time. Despite having an amazing time, I will go on to say that there are several things that they could work on when it comes to the property and amenities. Entertainment staff were very good. Nicki Minaj was the best! 10+ for her :) 1) Insufficient deck chairs at the Adult and Family sides - due to this known issue, folks reserve their chairs, and when staff see they are unattended for 45 minutes they swipe your towel and bring it into the lobby with a pile of other wet towels. Mind you, there is cost if you lose your towel card...so keep an eye on your towels and don't leave them unattended for too long, 2) Insufficient staff working the bars. Most bars only had one person working them. They do the best they can, but it really is not reasonable. They should have minimum 2 people during the day and then 3-4 during busy periods 3) The pool deck is very slippery at both the adults only and family side. We witnessed many wipe-outs unfortunately. Wear your shoes or flip-flops when the deck is wet, or you will find yourself with your ass to the ground, 4) Beach is kept clean, but again...not enough chairs out there either. There's a hidden gem of a grill out at Flip Flopz grill by the beach. Good chicken burgers and nachos. 5) They switched to "no reservation necessary" policy in the middle of our stay for the a la carte restaurants. That was a bit of a disaster, but we worked around it by going to one of the buffet when we showed up for a reservation that no longer existed. 6) Bring a refillable bubba or YETI for your drinks. The pool-side glasses are ridiculously flimsy. They barely hold the drink without spilling. Other than these things, I believe it is worth a shot to book there. Given it is not rated a 5-star, you get what you pay for and it is at the right price point.

Air Transat
Our Air Transat vacation package was wonderful from flights to accommodations. Thank you to Victor and Raul, our Air Transat Reps. at Sunscape Coco Punta Cana for being so helpful. We would definitely travel with them again and enjoy another worry free vacation.
