    Good Value for the Money

We stayed at a very good rate and as a part of the Privilege Club since our friends are time share owners. I highly recommend the Privilege Club as it gives you access to all 4 resorts, all restaurants and bars and premium spirits like Johnny Walker Black Label and Don Julio Reposado. The resort itself is very family oriented so great for families. I enjoyed the atmosphere but if you are looking for very quiet atmosphere, then stay at Sian Kian. As a privilege member, you can check in/check out at privilege lounge which is also a huge bonus. I thought the buffet food was OK but plentiful. The sit down restaurants have better food. Service throughout the resort is friendly but you can't expect 5 star/North American standards but they will try to accommodate you if they can and understand you. The pools are clean. When you go to these resorts, you have to expect that as an all inclusive, you cannot get everything you want complementary but what is included is great value for the money. The beaches at Akumal and Tulum are clean and you feel very safe inside the resort. Animals are everywhere in a good way. I would recommend this as a great vacation destination

    Struck with terrible food poisoning!

We stayed between 13-24 October as a couple. Firstly the pro’s: Beautiful grounds and an abundance of wildlife. The staff were unbelievably kind and helpful in every way. Great pools and an abundance of sunbeds at any time of the day! The cons: The hotel is tired and in need of an update. We saw cockroaches three times running around in the outside seating area by the lobby. There was a lack of cleaning in the toilet areas and no encouragement to use the hand sanitizers available. Staff in the kitchen were not wearing gloves to protect against any contamination. We became very Ill after dining at the Japanese restaurant where we took part in the terranyaki dinner, this was on the Sunday before we came home on the following Thursday. We made the TUI reps aware and sickness forms were completed by them. Sadly we missed out on our booked trip to Tulum as we were too ill to go, so we lost £200. To see a doctor is $150 dollars, a prescription is $250 per person! If you run out of medication like we did, the Mexican equivalent to imodium is $25 a packet. We travelled home on a stressful flight due to our health issues which was a struggle. Our food poisoning ruined our holiday and we’ve been to Mexico three times before and never experienced anything like this. The plus points of our holiday were the people, the wildlife and wonderful staff but we won’t be coming back to this hotel!

By modern standards, average at best…

I’ll start with the bad and end on the good. First, the worst arrival experience over ever had. Got to our room, no power on at all. The bell-boy hadn’t stayed with us so we didn’t have any assistance. I initially thought we just needed to insert the key, wasn’t the case. Turned on my phone torch, entered the room, water, puddles of it from the front door all the way to the balcony. Feet were literally splashing in it. It’s a huge resort so we couldn’t just walk back to reception with the cases. Called reception 3 times and waited 30 mins until we just decided to lock the cases in a dry part of the room and walk back to reception. Another 30 mins later we were allocated another room. But it was clear the first room hadn’t been checked for the power to be switched off at the fuse box and for water to be all over the floor. Even the beds were damp. Following on was ok but apart from me making a complaint and them booking us in 2 restaurants the management weren’t bothered. The hotel itself is quite basic and dated. Our 2nd room was ok. The air-conditioning seemed to be cold or very cold and didn’t really alter with the thermostat just the strength of the fan. Water pressure for the shower was awful. Cleanliness of the rooms was ok, for example the laundry and floors were always dirt free, but lots of little bugs coming from different corners of the room and in the drawers. The minibar is a joke too. 1 Diet Coke per day between 4 people! The pools are quite basic too, not very deep if you want a proper swim. The whole restaurant booking process need a complete overhaul too. By the time we arrived, there was no availability and some restaurants were completely closed. The food in the buffet was of good quality but very similar every single lunch and evening, which when you can’t get in the restaurants that were open, is boring! On to the good. The cleaning staff are very friendly and attentive as were the waiters in the buffet. The Japanese restaurant and the Brazilian are very good (but we only got in them due to our complaint). The coffee machine in the room was very good which was helpful given we couldn’t get a coffee at any of the pool bars! The gym for a hotel was well equipped and the staff very good. The surrounding areas of the hotel complex and the wildlife are probably the biggest plus! But makes you wonder, is it appearance over substance? All in all, I’m sorry but I wouldn’t stay again. There’s absolutely no wow factor to this hotel and that isn’t me having high standards. The hotel room itself was no better than a 3 star room in the med that I used to get taken on holiday with my parents to 30yrs ago. I’m sorry but I would not return to this hotel.

Fully recommend this resort and hotel

I stayed at the Grand Coba from 10 - 24 October and fully recommend this hotel. The room cleanliness is first class, as is the resort itself. The staff working in the hotel are all extremely helpful and pleasant. The two most outstanding features for me were: 1. The buffet restaurant food was excellent. I've regularly stayed in all-inclusive resorts, but the food here is definitely one of the best I've eaten in. 2. The bars, choice of drinks, and staff are superb. The guys working in the bars worked hard, but were always polite and pleasant. I have to give special thanks to JORGE who was always busy and remembered what I wanted from day 1. Thank you mate, much appreciated.

    Never coming back 🤮

I would have rated this hotel higher, but tonight we came back to our freshly made bed and there was literally a large patch of someone else’s feces smeared onto to the top sheet. So much that it transferred onto the blanket. Never have I ever been so beyond disgusted. First time here and will definitely be our last visit. There is no way the cleaning lady did not see this!! Yesterday the blanket was under the sheet, today it was on top. Like they were trying to hide it. Pros: The Buffet is good, restaurants are good. Not everything is open, but what is for restaurants is good. Pools are nice and there is a tonne of chairs. They provide umbrellas for the rain, which is nice. Staff in the lobby and restaurants are very friendly. Don’t come here for the beach, it’s super rocky.
