Musty rooms and mold!
Overall the resort is very nice, restaurants were awesome and buffet was typical with what you usually get at an all inclusive. Staff were great….the only issue that I have to say were the rooms. They very musty smelling and outdated. We were several couples staying in blocks, 68,69,70 and 71 and everyone complained of the moldy odours. We had one couple who stated that they found mold in between their mattress and box spring ( yuk ) and other friend who is allergic to mold was stuffed up all week. Don’t mean to overly complain but need to state that the rooms, in my opinion, require a severe refresh…. Other than that, all was good!

LOVED my stay at Bahia Principe Akumal Dec 2024
A BIG thank you to all the staff at BP Akumal. Wow...my wonderful week started off with a very warm welcome by Jose and a glass of bubbly upon check-in. Kudos for such a nice greeting. I stayed in 6711 which I loved for its proximity to the adult pool, Katok restaurant and the beach too. It was very comfortable with a king bed and lots of pillows, well stocked mini fridge etc. (an older room but no issues) Thank you to Guadalupe for her hard work cleaning and restocking. She always asked if I was happy and if there was anything I needed. The beach areas are a mixed bag of some rocky areas, which I personal like b/c that's where the fish tend to be ( ** bring a snorkel and mask**) and sandier areas at the designated area for Akumal guests. I never had a problem finding a lounger or shade. Lots of pools to choose from-busy or quiet. You go get a towel(s) at the towel shack and then just turn it in when you want a new one......no tickets to keep track of or anything. Easy. The buffet had tons of food choices and you will not go hungry ! Sometimes hot dishes could have been hotter but it wasn't a huge issue to me. Thanks to Alejandra who was always there with a smile. (thanks to all the other staff in the restaurants too--sorry can't remember everyone's names ! ) I thought the service was exceptional...someone was always right there with coffee ( ahhh) and whatever else you want to drink. I ate at the Yum buffet a lot but it was great being close to Katok for breakfast and lunch options and also having Tikalito snack bar for options too. ( it's more than a snack bar) Loved the beautiful grounds and pathways. I walked a lot and also did the bike tour which was fun. I absolutely loved this resort and was glad I chose Akumal over the other hotels just for the extra options. Oh and the coffee bar off the lobby...loved it too ! They have THE BEST donuts...lol. It gets quite busy and honestly I think they need a second coffee machine and more staff because it is a popular spot. GREAT week and I was SO impressed by all the staff...they were consistently so genuine, hard working etc.

JJ Studio - Wedding Photographer for Destination Wedding
My husband and I had a great experience with JJ Studio for our Destination Wedding in August. Ivonne was professional and caught many great moments of our ceremony. JJ Studio was included in our Wedding Package with a total of 10 pictures of our choice from the many that were taken. They even offered to give us an extra 10 pictures! It was convenient to have a team of photographers at the resort. Thanks JJ!!

Excellent hotel with superb staff
The hotel was excellent and all the staff we're so helpful. The shuttle buses to and from the other hotels was fantastic and the drivers are brilliant . We used quite a few of the other restaurants and they were all excellent, especially the Japanese and Mexican and steak house.

Nice property,sketchy food
The property overall was beautiful and the pools and beach were really nice. Housekeeping was really good as well. The problem was with food and booking restaurants. The customer experience people were the only ones who could make reservations for restaurants but they told us that every restaurant was booked solid all the time right from the first day we arrived and that we could eat at the buffet (which frequently had many many empty dishes all the time). When we offered tips up front if they could book us…miraculously sometimes spots opened up. When we would arrive to our reservations, the restaurants were less than ½ full even though we were ALWAYS told there was no space. On our last night, we walked to the steakhouse and saw that it was almost empty. I went to the desk to see if we could eat there and the girl told me that if I was willing to purchase at least 2 bottles of wine during dinner she could seat us otherwise the answer was no. To top it all off…3 members of our party of 7 ended up with violent vomiting and diarrhea over our last couple of days and we didn’t eat anywhere except on the resort. Last point…we were there for a wedding. The bride asked the wedding planner about getting her hair done for the wedding and the planner told her that there was no availability at the spa but she had a friend who would come in and do it for $250 US. The bride’s mom went to the spa herself and booked an appointment with no issues for $99 US. SKETCHY
