    Will not return

We had booked a swim up casita for 5 nights. Upon arrival at 3 p.m., we were told that the casitas were overbooked, and we were told we would have to go to the Generations resort. We had booked a Casita as it is adults only, and we were forced to go to Generations, which is a family resort. I did not agree at first, but I was told we had no other options than to go to Generations for 2 nights. We received a whole 250 credit, which is nothing for all the hassle. The first night at generations the air conditioner ran on high and we were unable to shut it off. I could not call the front desk as the room phone was broke. The next morning, we wake up to a leaking bathroom ceiling to pieces of the ceiling on the floor. They moved us to another room at generations. After the 2nd night, we were told we would move to casitas. I called to have our luggage picked up and bell service said I had to go check out at generations. We finally get to the front desk at genrations and i was told no you don't have to check out. Due to the time it took, we missed an excursion. Day 3, we finally got to the room we booked and they did upgrade the casita to an ocean front. It was not worth all the trouble we had gone through. When I contacted our travel agency, I was told this is a common happening at this resort as they overbook often. This had been our 3rd time to the resort over the past 5 years. With the change in management, it has drastically went down hill.

    Please, someone help me!

The purpose of this review is hoping that someone will finally help me, a former guest who stayed January 2025. I have called the resort no less than 15 times trying to get in touch with the on-site doctor's office, who I had to visit while I was a guest. Each and every time I've called I've been hung up on. Some claim they're transferring me, some insist I call back so that someone else has to deal with, not a single person will give me the direct number or email of the doctor, which I know he has because it's written in his office. So PLEASE, will someone help? Is this possible? I would like to update my review to reflect my experience as a guest, but, as of now, will leave it to reflect my experience in getting help from the resort.

Unhappy as a family experience-nice hotel

Traveled to El Dorado Royale in January 2025 with a group of seven as a family. Booked with a travel agent. Was promised for separate rooms all swim ups, all located closely together. Upon arrival, two of the four rooms were not swim ups. Arrival was after 6 PM and we agreed to accept the credit for $200 per room For the first two nights of a four nights stay. Were advised to plan to check out and move to different rooms on the third day, we were advised that “due to the convention “the rooms were no longer available for swim ups. So not only had we not unpacked fully with the expectation to move to other rooms. We now never got moved to our swim rooms. When asked about additional credits for the additional two nights lost based on the original reservations of four nights in swim ups, we were told we were already received that credit and spent it there would be no additional credit. After haggling with the hotel, the customer service email and our travel agent becoming involved. We never did receive credit for the additional two nights for two rooms that we had paid extra for swim ups. In addition to that, we never could make a reservation at any restaurant other than the cooking show for a group of seven. Even the cooking show split us into two tables of four. Though it appeared, there were larger tables available. Many restaurants we would make two reservations for four each, stop at the restaurant during the day advising them of what we had done and we would like to be seated closely together, and they could not seem to accommodate that either. Using the online reservation system for us was a horrible experience. We never did see our concierge. We finally sought someone else at another location however they are not able to help with reservations at restaurants either. Overall, the hotel accommodations the restaurants for a couple were outstanding. Larger groups, not so much. Like enough

    Wonderful vacation

First visit to the El Dorado Royale and will not be our last. We enjoyed this stay so much we are planning to come back next year! When we arrived, the staff welcomed us to the resort. The lobby was beautiful and staff was very friendly and helpful. Although we arrived before 3 o’clock our room was ready and we checked in right away. Be sure to book excursions right away. Maroma Beach is awesome. Get the catamaran boat ride if you can. Make sure to order food at the beach (included). We waited too long and could not do the Cenotes because it was full. The grounds at the resort are beautiful and well maintained. It is so large and there are many areas to explore. Shuttles are available if needed to get to a location quickly or you might choose to walk and enjoy the scenery. Do not miss the bike ride. This is a great way to get a closer look at areas you may not see otherwise. Restaurants and Bars: We were told that reservations were difficult to book so our travel agent book a number ahead of time. We did book a couple through the app (be sure to download this when you arrive) and it work with no problems. There is staff to assist you in making reservations if needed. We found the food overall to be very good. Kampai was my favorite. Many enjoyed the Santa Fe Grill, Jade and D’italia Casitas. Don’t miss the Health Bar at the beach and the La Cabana Pizzeria at the main pool. The Pizzeria also serves tacos and a fabulous salmon salad. Fuentes Culinary Dinner Theatre was recommended and well worth the extra cost. Food and entertainment were outstanding. Our last night was a Tuesday, the one and only night for the Mexican Fiesta. No reservations required. Food was ok. Get there early, some items were gone when we arrived but the entertainment was fabulous and made it a must do. The Martini Bar is awesome and located in the lobby. We used this to meet up with our group before dinner and other times. We also enjoyed Gaviotas Seashore Bar. Beautiful ocean views. And Bar Guacamayas (right next door to the theatre) had some fun entertainment. We were there for the Superbowl and they put on a great party. Highly recommend the resort. The grounds, the food, the entertainment was top notch. The service the staff provided was the best. From check in to check out. Every staff member greeted us with a smile and provided great service. By far the best value for your dollar.

    3rd visit, 70th birthday, excellent!

Our 3rd visit to the resort, it was incredible as always! I genuinely can’t understand the other reviews, we had none of the issues other people had and we went there 10 days. It was my mums 70th birthday and we had the best time. Booked all our restaurants on the first day, all straight forward, we ate in a different restaurant every night except for the last night where we chose to go back to Kampai, as it was our favourite. Literally the only thing I would complain about is the indoor restaurants are freezing, I had pretty dresses that I wanted to wear but then had to put a cardigan on top of them! We got sun beds every day, we used the (bit dated) gym everyday, we tried new activities, paddle ball, archery, rifle shooting, tequila tasting, foam party, it was just so so fun. The staff are incredible, so friendly, kind and helpful. We all felt genuinely sad to leave.
