Exceeded Expectations
Riu Tequila exceeded our expectations and made our 1st all inclusive trip an awesome one. The only thing I didn't expect was the location of the beach, however, even if it's not beachfront, they provide a golf cart back and forth and you have access to their sister hotel Riu Yucatan, they have a restaurant at the beach as well. So this is really a win win! Their food, entertainment, room (though it needed a little touch up) service are perfect! I will go back and recommend Riu Tequila!

Inconsistent
The reviews here are very reflective of the inconsistent and unreliability of this hotel. I know 5 star is variable however I don’t believe this hotel is 5 star by TUI/RIU standards. Air con not working on arrival, told 3 different stories only to the find a recycled sign at reception saying the main system at the sister hotel was broken. Was ‘fixed’ on day 3 but the air con was not sufficient in our room. The maintenance guy explained that the rooms were too big, appreciated his honesty as we got that no where else. App to request items in room and report faults was so hit and miss. Reported this to reception who didn’t offer an explanation just said call reception if there’s an issue, not the point. The pools are so warm. Went in once on our 2 weeks stay. Resort is pretty to looks at and reflective of the pictures. Rooms a bit grubby, not awful just not 5 star. Staff on the whole are fine. Apart from reception staff, all bar one was grumpy and unwilling to help. I’m pretty easy going and easy to please with an understanding that everyone’s standards are different but this was not great. My purse went missing from my room. I didn’t keep cash in it but all my cards and drivers licence was in there. I used the safe for valuables but perhaps I should have put this in there. I reported to reception who said they’d look into it and call me back. They didn’t. I went to reception again and they said they spoke to the supervisor who consulted with staff but no joy. They advised they’d speak to manager. I heard nothing. There is nothing I can do, nor prove, so I didn’t report to the police. Something to be aware of. Food in buffet was good, great choice and generally hot. Mexican restaurant was poor. Steak restaurant which we tried on two occasions, was also poor on both occasions. Italian was good. Bamboo was the best and actually of reasonable quality. Beach is the best thing about this hotel, and the use of the sister hotel bars whilst at the beach. Also cute coatis and animals scurrying about. Good effort from the entertainment team. I wouldn’t return and I wouldn’t recommend. Not worth the price we paid.

“Tequila a day … keeps the mrs away “!
Had a fantastic 2 weeks at the tequila. By eck it was warm ! With it being situated in land it was a lot hotter than the sister hotels. Lovely large room at the end of the complex. Not much to look at from the balcony but we weren’t in the room much . Entertainment team were friendly and very professional . The wife and I joined in quite a few activities and the team were a good laugh and good at there jobs . We Tipped the bar staff at the swim up bar but the older one was still a grumpy sod and always looked out for the bigger tippers and ladies ! . A few people we spoke to said the same . A few times we got out and went to the bar around the corner . Got to mention the towel lady. Flipping eckers she’s got a right chip on her shoulder. Talking to people like an head mistress ! Knock a notch off love ! Food in the buffet was top notch n always summat to eat . We tried all the other a la carte restaurants and enjoyed them all. Entertainment was a bit mixed but the party nights were fab ! We made good use of the sports bar as it was nice to get into the aircon. .. til 2am ! 😉 . We thought the trips were a bit dear n got mixed reviews as it was so hot. So we didn’t bother. Went to the beach quite a few times and used Playacar. Beautiful down there ! We tripped off into playa del carmen 1 day . It was ok but felt like being back in turkey 30 years ago with the hassle. Met some lovely couples whilst in the tequila and had some really good laughs! Not sure if we would return in the near future but we did have a lovely time . Oh n sorry there weren’t much tequila left in the bottle in the optics case on our apartment wall. I think it was leaking !! 🤣

Great place to be
We have been to the same hotel each time we have been to Mexico this was our second visit and it was just as good as our first time lots to do out and about you can walk from the hotel to town that in its self is a great trip just have the idiots claiming that they know you from the hotel come into my shop, just try to hide your band if you can The hotel is great always somewhere to tip up around the pools, sports bar for cocktails the ladies there don’t stop and it’s a great place for coffee first thing in the morning or in the evening they do have food in there but never bothered with it myself Restaurants Main one is great lots to choose from, great service The speciality restaurants are good also you can usually get a table you may have to wait for a bit with a pager but was worth the wait. Rooms are great well looked after fridge is always restocked daily lovely and clean I would take your mozzie spray or plug in as they can be about in force All the hotels come to this hotel for the white night and the other night both great fun Pools are great swim up bar is good bbq lunch is good cocktails very good They have organised activity both in the sport pool from foam party volley ball etc Plus games on the surrounding areas as well We will be back again some point in the near future

Appalling allergen safety. A joke honestly.
Absolutely appalling. I contacted the hotel about my allergy to tree nuts and coconut before we booked and was told I’d have plenty of options. Since being here I’ve spoken to every chef about my allergy as there’s little to no options for me. I’ve had the head chef get angry at me as the food signs they provide are incorrect. He also asked me if Nutella has nuts in it. When i eventually gave up talking to the chefs I spoke to reception and was laughed at and told my allergy is strange. We stayed here for two weeks, all inclusive, and I’ve had to survive off eating from the local shop which has been expensive. I would not recommend anyone coming here. My partner was also served raw chicken multiple times.
