Sep 07, 2026Beautiful Resort, But the Staff Is the True Highlight
Dreams Playa Mujeres is a beautiful resort. The beach, pools, and grounds are all really nice, and our room was super clean. We stayed in a Preferred Ocean View King Room. Preferred comes with a separate beach area, cabanas, the lazy river, and breakfast at Maris. For me, the regular resort already has plenty to enjoy, so I do not think the upgrade is necessary unless those extras are important to you. I was never up early enough to get a cabana right away, so I would just put my name on the waitlist. One would usually open up later, and Rodrigo, the pool concierge, would actually walk around looking for us so we would not miss it. He was amazing. The pools were beautiful, but a little too warm for me. I understand it is the Caribbean and the sun is strong. Our favorite pool spot was Grotto because there is more shade, the water felt cooler, and there is a bar behind the waterfall. The bartender there was also great and would often have my drink ready when he saw me coming. The staff was the best part of our stay. We loved Maris. Preferred guests can have breakfast there in the morning, and later it becomes the seafood restaurant for lunch and dinner. We went there every day. Hibran and Wilbert remembered our names and drinks and always gave us great recommendations. Celia, the hostess, was also very friendly and greeted us by name every day. L’Etoile, the French restaurant, was another favorite. Fernando, the manager, and Andrea, our waitress, made our last dinner feel really special. Just keep in mind that kids need to be 13 or older to dine there. The restaurants rotate and are not all open every night, so check the resort app during your stay. I would definitely make time for Maris and L’Etoile. We tried all the restaurants and enjoyed them, but the buffet was disappointing and nothing really stood out. My 11-year-old daughter really enjoyed the kids club, especially the arts and crafts, and I felt very comfortable leaving her there. We also liked having exchange privileges with Secrets next door. It was easy to go over and enjoy an adults-only atmosphere for a while. Overall, I would definitely recommend Dreams Playa Mujeres for families and multigenerational groups. The resort is beautiful, but the staff is what really made the stay for us.
