When In Mexico eat Mexican food and drink Mojitos and Margaritas.
Location is excellent, bars are terrific, and buffet is very good. Himitsu is excellent, Grill was bad every steak cooked wrong. Portifino was terrible. I say stay with mostly buffets and Himitsu and you'll have a great time. Beach is super shallow so little kids love it. you will not be swimming in the ocean there.

i expected more from this hotel chain
con: 1 of 6 days had hot water (tried 9-10am, 4-6pm, and 10-11pm), 2 bathrooms (6 female stalls total) for entire pool and beach area. buffet closed early (important if you get back from a tour after 10pm), as with many resorts, people put towels or other items to save lounge chairs then show up hours later or not at all. we laid on the sand 2 days due to this. thought this would be more upscale but (maybe due to spring break time) there were more 20 yo guests than i though would be there. pros: variety of restaurants and food choices (food itself was on par with other all-inclusives though), good area (beach with minimal waves but shallow so good for kids or if you just want to sit in the water) and across the street is shopping and the senor frogs/coco bongo clubs are a 10 min walk. the coffee cafe was the best thing there.

One of the better al inclusive resorts!
Hotel was nice, rooms were good. Everyone who worked at the hotel was especially nice and helpful. I appreciated that the vacation club sales pitch was no pressure. When I said no the first time, they dropped it. I have been to many hotels where I have to say no repeatedly and they push so hard. Food was decent. Better than in most all inclusive. El Patio was the BEST place for dinner. Of course, they are going to serve great Mexican food! At the buffet, whatever they were making fresh was delicious. The breakfast tacos were amazing! At the beach, Gustavo and Angel took good care of us. Ricardo was the best beach waiter. He kept us well fed and hydrated and always with a big smile and something nice to say. The spa was also very nice. Isreal took great care of us during our hydrotherapy circuit. And when we had to leave early because my daughter wasn't feeling well everyone truly cared and took great care of us. I was really impressed.

Get yourself a room with a balcony!
Family Trip w/ a 4 year old. Just came back from this resort and honestly it was pretty great. I see a few poor reviews but I think its all subjective. Yes the resort is older and a little run down, but its clean. The food could be better but there were some wins for us for sure. Reviewing food is so subjective as its a hit or miss for anyone, but hey we didnt get sick even when ordering the ceviche everyday! We just took shots of tequilla after every meal to be safe LOL. We did take advantage of room service especially for breakfast to have slower mornings. The resort app was great and our room service always came on time. If you are looking to relax and be taken care of, this place is it. The beach is 10000% beautiful and you will find yourself just floating in the ocean all day. I find that you do have to wake up early to save a lounge chair at the beach but really, i think all resorts/ cruises are like this and its no different. This resort is on the smaller side which is good for older guests and children. The employees are so nice/kind, they really make you feel taken care of. I'd recommend this place to family/friends, expecially those that have never experienced an all inclusive resort before. My big tip would be to upgrade to a balcony, totally worth it! especially when you need to dry off your swim wear, enjoy watching the sunset, and if you have children, you and your partner can have some alone time after they sleep. Overall, great time!

Great ocean, Great service workers, Awful experience
The check-in process was a very negative experience that ruined the excitement that we had for the trip. Upon arrive we decided to upgrade to a master suite and preferred. After paying we were told that the two kids would not stay free. The background is that my wife called UVC multiple times starting in January to discuss the room selection and charges for the kids. During this time UVC was running the kids stay free promotion. UVC told us they needed to contact the resort. We would wait a few days to a week for a response. When none came we called again. This process repeated itself. Needless to say upon arrival we were charged for the kids. I purchased a UVC membership and it is a hassle, or impossible, to utilize the benefits. The front desk staff and Teresa from member services were not helpful. Instead of doing anything to address my concerns Teresa decided to offer my in-laws preferred status only if I attended a sales meeting. I was shocked and upset. Teresa could have offered my in-laws preferred status at check-in but she told the check-in employee in Spanish, who had preferred key cards in her hand, not to upgrade them to preferred. After this experience I have lost all faith in UVC and Dreams Sands. It is clear that a service recovery model does not exist. I have no faith that UVC will do anything to address this situation for me. Two others issues to mention. My son who has a bleeding disorder cut his foot on the pool tiles two different days. We kept him out of the main pool for the rest of the trip after the first cut. The second cut occurred in the pool with the volleyball net. After multiple Dreams vacations this is the first time I was told that I could only make a reservation at the Hibachi table if I paid. The manager said it would cost $200. At other resorts the process is first come first serve. We have always been able to book a hibachi table. At Dreams Sands the process is extortion. There were positives during the trip. Namely I would like to thank some incredible employees that we met during the trip. Humberto at World Cafe was so kind and great with my kids. We asked to sit in his section as often as possible. He is a star employee. Antonio at Portofino. I have never seen someone hustle as much as he does. Such a hard worker. Very kind and polite. We asked to sit in his section during the outdoor dinner. Jonathan from the entertainment team was great with my kids. Especially my younger 7 year old son. He would ask for Jonathan every day. Guadalupe M. was our housekeeper. She did a great job and was always very pleasant. The service workers are the stars of this resort. Management was a total disappointment. One additional positive was the ocean water. The large sand bar and clear water were as advertised. One of the nicer ocean spots in Cancun.
