Chill-Out Bar for TUI Airline Guests Only

I have written good reviews about this resort and the majority of it still stands true. Nice beach location, friendly staff, good food, and clean rooms. But there have been some changes to this resort, including the use of the chill-out bar. One of the main reasons why we love returning to the Bambu is the chill-out beach bar. Unfortunately, when my mother returned in April 2024 she discovered that the chill-out beach bar is now only for those guests of TUI airlines. RUI, why are you discriminating against your other international guests? Taking away the beach bar from the majority of your guests makes the stay at your resort much less enjoyable. Now guests who enjoy the quieter side of the beach have to walk over to the beach bar closer to the activity pool, which makes the line-up at the bar by the activity pool even busier! Also, there is hardly anyone from TUI using the chil bar now except for a handful of overly, drunk TUI UK guests. Also with fewer people using the chill-out bar, you are taking away tips from your staff. The chill-out bar was such a great place to sit and relax. Too bad you took it away from the majority of your guests. With hundreds of resorts in Punta Cana, we will be looking for a new resort for our Christmas holiday. Thanks for the memories Bambu but it’s time to move on.

Bed was hard as a rock, food is not very good at all, liquor is sub-par but the beach is absolutely gorgeous. Clean hotel but needs electricity updated. Only one of my wall ports worked and I had to rig it to hold the plug in. Rui party is fun and entertainment was ok. Only employees who spoke English were at the front desk so brush up on your Spanish before going. Maids worked extremely hard so leave them some cash if you can. Not sure if it was because I am a female but the female bar tenders are not friendly.

    Lovely hotel, great location

Had a great fortnight at this hotel. Room was a little dated but very clean. Our minibar stopped being stocked towards the end of the holiday (do they stop doing this if you don’t leave out a tip every day???), which was frustrating but the maid service was always excellent. Food was always good. Colonial Restaurant was excellent, plenty of choice and good quality food. The steak house (the only restaurant you have to book for and queue for ages) was overrated in our opinion. When we went the food was fine but we felt rushed by the waiting staff. We did only go once so we might have just had a bad night there but I wouldn’t bother to queue again. The best restaurants were the Asian and the Spanish. The latter always being very quiet (perhaps because it is away from all the other restaurants). Evening entertainment was not great. Lots of dance shows (which were lovely) but they seem to rely on the RIU parties if you want to dance, but you can’t take families. Therefore I recommend you take a pack of cards!!! In short, a great place to relax and eat!!

    Great Holiday 👍

I don't usually write reviews, but felt I needed to! We have had the best 2 weeks at RIU Bambu in Punta Cana. We were a family of 8, 2 sets grandparents and my wife and 2 kids, from the moment we arrived we made to feel welcome. Checking was smooth and straight into rooms, and from then on in it was a relaxing and enjoyable holiday. Breakfast was spent at the Colonial restaurant where Ariel (one of the waiters) was always attentive, so much so that we had the same table with flowers and with Coffee and Hot water already to go. This is not to say that the other waiters weren't attentive they all work extremely hard. Days were spent at the exclusive TUI pool by the Sands Bar. Though it was only meant for TUI guests others used it, but that was fine, we always had sun loungers. Ramon at the bar, what a guy. Always a smile on his face and served us everyday. La Familia he would say! We ate mainly at the Colonial Restaurant in the evening Tyfel (think that's how you spell it) would always greet us with fist pumps and was always a good variety of food. The Chinese restaurant was brilliant and loved the food, we would turn up and be given a buzzer and usually got a table within 20mins. Mexican was a little hit and miss, but each to there own. We ate several times at Ole restaurant, the food there was brilliant, and it was never too busy so always got a table straight away. Rooms were fine and clean, bar was always topped up, plus all our plugs worked. All in all a great holiday and full credit to all the staff that work here, from front desk, waiters, maids, barmen and groundskeeper. Thank you

    Watch your drinks!!!

***Watch your Drinks*** We came to RIU Bambu for spring break as a family of four (teen and tween children) with our friends who have children the same age. We stayed at a RIU in 2022 and loved it. This RIU is a far from cry from what we experienced at our first stay. RIU’s main focus seems to be on “RIU Party” at this point. Where there used to be parties for ALL hotel guests (ages). All their parties are for 18 and over now. Which is great for spring breakers but not for families. Out of seven nights they had four shows of which one was good. No pool games or beach games. But they find the time to promote their 18 and over parties heavily. Out friends were shocked. They’ve been vacationing with RIU for 16 years and couldn’t believe the changes. Food was mediocre, staff extremely unfriendly unless you tip them. Hotel has black mold everywhere. The worst part was that my husbands drink was spiked one night, so please ***WATCH YOUR DRINKS***for your own safety. We informed the hotel staff, they didn’t care. Seems to happen all the time here. We later learned another hotel guest was drugged at the sane bar the same night. We were so disappointed after looking forward to this trip for month. The only good thing is the beach, it’s amazing but that’s nature not RIU. Maybe it’s the new ownership but we will consider twice before booking RIU again. If I want the Mallorca/Ballermann experience, I‘ll fly directly to Spain. The change would make sense since RIU bought back their almost 50% from TUI. It seems like it‘s gone down hill from there. Shame on you RIU family.
