Delightful surprise on the beach in Maui

Fabulous, clean, great view from balcony and the unit was completely remodeled. It was steps from the beach and rental car hotel. What a delightful surprise.

    Whaler exceeded our expectations!

The Whaler exceeded our expectations! We had a studio ocean view with a kitchen and can't wait to go back!!! We were in unit 618 that had views of the ocean to the left and the mountains to the right. We had an amazing balcony view with a table and lounge chair. The unit provided beach chairs and a cooler. The grounds were IMMACULATE. We joked about seeing a leaf on the beautiful lawn. The pool was a perfect temperature. Some things to keep in mind. The pool is deep - straight to 5 feet. Not really a place for young kids. Most of the crowd was 50+. Was a quiet pool with people reading etc. There is no restaurant but you are very close to Whaler's Village where there are several restaurants. Plus we took a tip off Facebook group page and pre-ordered food and picked up from WalMart on the way! Worked out great. Parking was free and super easy underground. Beach is amazing

    Not worth what we paid.

The property is beautiful and apartments are nice but not all rooms on the property are worth the cost. If you get stuck on the Whaler village side of tower 2 (South side) it is not as pleasant as the north or court side. If you book through the property management company you have no choice in where they place you and the cost is the same. We learned later that Expedia had a better price and choice of which side of the tower you could stay. The south side overlooks the Whaler village shopping center and Hula Grill. The noise from the giant AC system for the village blocks out the surf sound and all the smoke and cooking odors from the restaurant infiltrate the room. The lanai had a nice view but wasn’t really the experience we expected.

    Scalding Hot Hot Tub

This place is a very pretty and well maintained establishment. I would not call it a resort, since there is no maid service, no restaurants on site, and little to no activities for its guests. They provide basic beach chairs, but charge a crazy fee to use their umbrellas. Beach equipment cannot be removed from their property. I specifically point out the insanely scorching hot tub in my review, since a hot tub is something that both my husband and I enjoy while on vacation. The temperature of this one is so hot that we were unable to really enjoy it. When I mentioned it to the man at the front desk, he said that “I was the only one who complained,” so although he said he would send out maintenance, maintenance did absolutely nothing and did not lower the temperature. Yet my husband and I would sit on the loungers and watch other guests attempt to get into the hot tub and then get back out saying the hot tub was way too hot. They would then sit on the side and dangle their feet in because that was pretty much all they could do. Not sure why it was a big deal for the hotel to turn down the temp a few degrees. I was actually doing them a favor and saving them money. On the flip side, the pool temp was slightly too cool. So if you are a night swimmer and want to hang out for a while, you probably won’t like the set up of their pool and hot tub. As a frequent vacationer, I’ve been in and enjoyed multiple hot tubs, and can honestly say that the temp of this one takes the cake. It may sound nit picky, but it is something that we were unable to ever enjoy. Basing it off of how many guests “complain” is ridiculous, since most will probably just deal with it and not go in. Another factor that keeps it from being a five star hotel, is the fact that it is quite a dark hotel when night time arrives. There is not a lot of lighting and the few tiki torches they have remained unlit all week due to waiting on an inspection. I guess with island time, they are at the mercy of inspectors coming to clear them, so I guess this might lot be their fault. This being said, as aforementioned, it is a pretty hotel that is nicely maintained. It is also right next door to Whalers Village and there is a Maui Brewing Company next door, so there’s some good food options.
