Great experience
Johnathan cabanas was a amazing bartender treated us with such kindness and answered all of the questions we had, while the other bartender Miguel treated us rudely and laughed in our face when we asked a question thank god Johnathan was there when he saw we weren’t being attended he immediately took our drinks. Johnathan was the best bartender!

Nice staff, excellent food and drinks, but beware of sargassum
Johnathan, the bartender on the north side cocktail bar was great! He gave great recommendations, was kind and professional, and surprised us with drinks. He went above and beyond to provide us great service. His friendliness and professionalism was a highlight during our trip. The food and drinks were amazing and one of the best I’ve had at an all inclusive resort.

Hotel much to big with "O" entertainment anyplace on site, awful! Unless you are a status member stay away! Pools are nice, drinks terrible. No beaches anyplace close, one and done at Ava Resort!!

The Good, The Bad & The Disappointments
We are wrapping. up a week at Ava Bay and I wanted to give a full, honest review for anyone considering booking — especially families. ✅ The Good: • The resort itself is beautiful — rooms are clean, quiet, and comfortable. • Waterpark and pools are fantastic for kids — plenty to keep them entertained during the day. • Poolside service was solid. Lunches by the pool were simple but tasty — the ceviche was a favorite. • Dinner at Black Iron was outstanding — amazing food and service. We wish we had booked it more than once. • Kita was also excellent — incredible staff and one of the best dining experiences we had. • Our first dinner at Veranda was very good — good enough that our daughter requested it for her birthday dinner. ❌ The Bad: • Communication at this resort is extremely poor. We experienced multiple issues that could have been avoided with better internal communication. • Our daughter’s birthday dinner at Veranda turned into a mess. After confirming the reservation three separate times (including the same day), we arrived only to find there was no reservation in the system. The staff did their best to seat us, but the meal felt rushed, food was not nearly as good as our first visit, and there was no birthday candle or song for our 7-year-old, who had been excited for weeks. A real disappointment. ❌ The Bigger Disappointment: Ava Kids • The entire reason we booked Ava Bay was because of the highly-advertised Ava Kids program — so our kids could burn energy and we could enjoy a few quiet dinners or a little adult time. • We hyped it up for months. When we arrived, our kids were able to play for 30 minutes before being pulled out due to a supposed plumbing issue. • After that, Ava Kids was completely closed for the rest of our trip. The gate was literally shut in our faces anytime we tried to return. • No alternative options were offered. No apologies. No effort to compensate or accommodate. • We paid $5,000 USD for a family vacation expecting, at minimum, access to advertised amenities. Instead, we had zero breaks or downtime the entire trip. ❌ Room Service Issues: • Calling room service felt like we were inconveniencing the staff. The person answering actually sighed on the phone as we tried to order a couple of drinks to the room — at an all-inclusive resort. • Orders were wrong multiple times (three separate occasions), and the staff delivering the food immediately knew who we were referring to when we mentioned the rude behavior. They were very apologetic and said this employee makes their jobs harder, too. • The delivery staff themselves were kind, helpful, and even went back to fix the orders — we made sure to tip them well. ⸻ Bottom Line: The resort has potential, and we did make some good memories — but the lack of communication, accountability, and customer service was extremely frustrating. If you’re a family booking this resort specifically for the kids’ club, be aware that you may not get what you’re expecting. And if things go wrong, don’t expect much effort to make it right. I hope this helps other families who are weighing their options.
