    Excellent resort!!!!!

We stay in Bahia Principe Ambar for 2 years in the row. The 1st time was very good, but last year in 2025 was not good experience. Food was very bad in main buffet, service is very bad. This year we decide to stay in Bahia Principe Aquamarine, and we not regretted. Excellent service. The rooms is outdated, but very clean. The cleaning ladies came every morning. Food in restaurants and buffet is very delicious. Drinks is above and beyond. Every day night shows and all day along excellent activities. Good job team entertainment!!!! I would like to say about waitress Karena in buffet, she does excellent job. She always smile and very polite, she make us happy every day and we feel like a one big family with all staff. However, there are a few minor issues: only 2 bath towels in the bathroom for a day, no bathrobes, and there is no drying rack for swimsuits on the balcony. Otherwise the resort is excellent

    Changes

This was our 2nd stay at this resort. I found a fair difference from the 1st visit of last year. Upon check-in we were informed that we were to have a king bed but when we stated we booked and wanted 2 doubles, on the ground floor, we were told there wasn't any rooms available,& we were given a room two floors up. The shower water was cold, as was the water for the sink. No matter how long either of us waited for hot water, it did not come about. We went back to the check-in desk and reported the issued and stated that it was not acceptable. "Warner" took down all the particulars and found a room on the ground floor however he said it was more/less a room for someone with a disability as the bathroom had a "flat floor leading to the shower". We stated that sort of thing didn't concern us in the least, and having the ground floor was a bonus. So, we were given the room on the ground floor with two double beds. Noise from the pool was bothersome even though we were located near the whirlpool. I fail to understand just why the music at the pool is so loud. Also there were noises in the hallway from the staff. They'd gather in 3's at times, talking amongst themselves in a loud fashion. The dining room provided a vast variety of food. Personally, I found the food at lunchtime to be far too much...cooked meat, cooked veggies, etc.etc. There were hot dogs available but the weiners were sitting in a shallow tray with water. The burger patties were sitting on a tray again with water. They certainly didn't look the slightest bit appealing. The chef cooking the pasta was amazing and the result mirrored his talent. Staff in the dining room were hit/miss. They would motion with their hands making you feel you were being treated like a dog. There is a waiter who whistles, sounding like a bird. Annoying. Sometimes we waited for a long time to get our morning coffee. One day at lunchtime, we entered the dining room, then heard one of the gals yell..."hola, hola, hola!" trying to get our attention to see if we wanted water. Unprofessional. The mosquitoes are relentless. I found them most annoying in the huge lobby bar. Both my friend and I received several bites. The little tuck shop just off the lobby bar doesn't sell repellent, but sells lotion to ease the itching..yes at $1500 Pesos. The plants along the edges of the bar should be sprayed in order to help control the mosquitoes. People wrote about this previously in their reviews but it appears to have gone south. This is a beautiful resort..my friend says she'd return yet again, but myself?...I'm not truly sure.

    January 2026

I recently stayed at this all-inclusive resort and, unfortunately, the experience did not meet expectations. While the property itself shows signs of age, the larger issue was the overall level of service, which felt inconsistent and below what I have experienced at comparable resorts. Interactions with staff were generally minimal. Greetings were rare, and there was little sense of proactive or attentive service. While everyone was polite enough when approached, there was no effort to go above and beyond or create a welcoming atmosphere. Dining was another area of disappointment. Access to the à la carte restaurants is strictly by reservation, and if you do not have one, entry is simply refused with no flexibility or attempt to accommodate guests. This was surprising for an all-inclusive resort and is not something I have encountered elsewhere, where at least some effort is usually made to find a solution. Overall, this resort may appeal to guests with very modest expectations or those who prioritize location over service. However, given the lack of hospitality and rigid policies, I left feeling disappointed and would not consider returning unless improvements are made.

    Amazing Vacation

This is our 4th visit to Aquamarine. It’s a hidden gem! Close to the airport, clean, large rooms and everything you need. The restaurants are amazing! Limbo, Flame and Meat were amazing. The entertainment staff were great - shout out to Issac “baby face”. He is amazing. Warm, kind and genuinely engaged with the guests. We adore him! The pool bar is so much fun. Our favourite bartenders are Luis and Smerlin! They remembered us from our previous trips and named my husband “Tarantino” on the very first visit. When saw him, the laughter started and never ended. They took fabulous care of us during all our stays. Last but not least, we have Juan. What a wonderful ball of energy. He greats guests daily by saying “hello my friends my friends. So happy to meet you. So happy to see you”! It puts an instant smile on your face. He’s an asset! Give him a raise. Thank you again for another amazing trip! See you again soon.

Big and beautiful with gorgeous beach!

This is the very largest resort I have ever seen. Traveled there 15 years ago and loved it, I think it was the original resort and has grown exponentially! So yes we got lost a lot! Beach is still beautiful and sargassum was lightly washed in, but nothing like I have seen in Mexico! Restaurants were 5 star! Everything delicious! MEAT was one of my favourites, and couldn’t eat all the steak so I took it to room to eat later! The room I had first night , the electric plugs were all loose and couldn’t hook up cpap because of this, we called from fest and they sent an electrician to fix it at midnight!! Amazing service. Hotel is 3 stories and no elevator, so for those with knee or hip issues request ground floor! Pools were lovely! There is a tiered system so some restaurants you are not allowed in, but there are so many restaurants, it’s no big deal. You will never go hungry here! Sand flys/No-see-ums/ sand fleas, or in general things you can’t see or feel bite and some people are allergic and some people they don’t affect. But bites can get infected and lead to cellulitis so invest in bug spray!!! Use especially in morning and evening! SERIOUSLY wear bug spray!
