Not The Best, But Could Be Better!
This is our honest review of Bahia Principe Aquamarine. First let me give you the pros of the resort. Our room was ready for us when we check-in! Bar staff are very good and friendly. Luis and Jose at the swim up bar are great! Wait staff at the following restaurants are good to great too. MEAT, CAPRICCIO, MASHUA NIKKEI. The food at these was fair to good, with the exception of MEAT which we found to be the best! The buffet Acuario some of the wait staff seemed like they did not care, until we sat in a section with some great staff. This section had a very nice lady {don't have her name}, but she always was singing and wore a flower in her hair. The food here was ok with breakfast being the best. The grounds and bathrooms were very clean. The staff that drove the carts and bell staff were great also. Entertainment staff were good and entertainment was fun. Ok now for the cons of the resort. Check-in could run a little better, also the lady that checked us in was not that friendly. Our room was nice, but we had a leak over the toilet and a towel holder fell off the wall. We reported it to the front desk and they came and caulked the shower {not where the leak was coming from}. We only were there for 4 nights so we lived with the slow leak. Just so you know the alcohol is watered down and there is a charge for top shelf alcohol.

Great time, would go again
I went on a girls trip with my mom and sister and had a blast! The animation staff was great! They did a good job and we always had fun doing Aqua Zumba. The buffet. The breakfast was good, lunch was good, dinner was okay. We only went for dinner once as we had a la cartes booked the rest of the nights. The staff in the buffet was amazing. Special shoutout to Yuusa, Beverly, Rosanny, Deniery and Alondra. There was also a man that we didn’t get his name. They made us feel so special, saved and decorated a table for us every morning. Pics to come. They were on the ball and always remembered our drink order! The A La Cartes. Food across all of the restaurants was good. Way better than going to the buffet every night. Service at MEAT was amazing. Service at Portofino and one of the gourmet restaurants was awful. The room. Was a little dated but clean and in good condition. Leidy did a great job keeping our room clean and making it special with flowers. The shows at night were good and fun! My family loves getting up to dance to the goodbye song. From the time we got there to the time we left we felt like royalty. All the staff was very helpful when we got lost going from place to place. Even when we were bringing our luggage down one of the mini bar staff ran up the stairs to help us. Would go again.

Expect a fun budget trip with bad food, bad watered-down drinks, and a beautiful beach!
My sweetie and I stayed last week for 7 days. We had sooooo much fun! It was a budget trip, so as far as the food and drinks went, we weren't expecting much. We aren't picky. We ate at Limbo as our first dinner seeing that everyone seems to like it the most. It wasn't good. 🙁 We did try two others - El Olivio and Portofino. El Olivio was decent and the best we tried. The buffet - most of it wasn't good to us, but rice, mashed potatoes = always good. Pizza - nope! The mango was good - rest of the fruit - not good. Tasted like water. We decided everything at the resort was watered down by 50% at least - juice, alcohol, etc. Now don't get me wrong. It's probably a GOOD thing the alcohol was watered down as we all know the majority drinks all day long. Not everyone could handle that at full strength. 🙂 Everyone was so nice there! We had an ABSOLUTE blast and met some great people! Our room was clean. Housekeeping did an excellent job! They did not have full flavor (the green can) Presidente or regular Pepsi for the mini fridge at any time. So we just drank water as we do not like the diet stuff. The pool foam party, the white party, and other events were a lot of fun! We took a party catamaran from Hispaniola Aquatic Adventures (my second time) and it was fantastic! They have an amazing meal they cook for you (including lobster!) and I highly recommend it. I wouldn't recommend Ambar. If you can afford Ambar, you can afford Dreams Onyx (AMAZING food and drinks). To me, you can't go wrong there. 🙂 Bottom line - if you have been to nicer places, and you come here expecting the same, you'll be so disappointed. THIS IS A BUDGET PLACE. You won't stave to death, and you don't have to worry about gaining weight lol! EXPECT BAD FOOD. If I'd had double the money - I would have gone to my favorite place with excellent food and where you watch your drinks made from fresh fruit, etc., however, I did NOT have it, therefore, we tried this place, and it was a lot of fun! Would I come back? NOPE. I have been other budget places that had a lot more edible food and actual decent drinks. But this is what you need to expect. If you haven't been nicer places, you may love everything about it! It's a wonderful place to be if you're on a limited budget, and I'm so glad to have had the experience! 🙂 The cats are a precious plus. Enjoyed the fun vacation! SIDE NOTE: don't bother shopping on the resort in the village, right now it's under construction and scary if you aren't used to walking on a construction site without a helmet. Take an excursion and shop elsewhere! The prices are SO much better off site. Example - I bought 5 Presidente t-shirts at $8 a piece and they were $18 at the village here.

Aquamarine experience
I had a wonderful time. The staff was great and the entertainment was good. The food was good as was the ala cartes? The beach was beautiful when I went it was a little to crowded for me. The housekeeping was excellent no complaits there. I will probably visit again

Disappointing
Recently we decided to spend a week at Bahia Principe Aquamarine in Punta Cana. AIR CANADA VACATIONS RATED THIS RESORT 5 STAR. Friends had already purchased and others were returning to that resort for the second time. A surface glance at reviews suggested it was 4.5 and even a 5 star resort. A more careful read of anecdotal reviews, ignoring the old ones, would have confirmed that this resort is no more than a budget level 3 star quality experience with a 10-15 minute walk to a nice beach. Decor - very dated, original - 7 years old including room furniture and bathroom fixtures. Cleanliness - generally lacking; paint desperately needed; tiles cracked and broken Buffet Food - Think mass market with a huge range in quality. Eat as much as you want or dare. Avoid all fish (except whole large baked) and most produce. One upside was a fresh cooked egg station for breakfast. Don’t be surprised that your table has no cutlery or napkins. Beverage service varies. A la Carte - Amateurish and with poor service. For example The Teppanyaki restaurant was a hasty stir fry after the cook ignited some cooking oil and drummed a simple rhythm with spatulas. My beer was served in a hot mug! A dirty garbage bucket was a few feet from guest seating. Drinks - Very limited unless you are a Prestige guest or staying at the sister Ambar resort: watered down spirits and one watered down beer option, no top shelf liquors, dime store wine. Pool - It was large but not clean. Loungers were at a premium; guests were obligated to get up at 6AM to drape towels over and thereby reserve those loungers for the entire day even if they only used them for 30 minutes. By 8AM all loungers were claimed for the day. On one day the pool side entertainment was a sometimes lewd strip bar dance contest as 15 or so drunken girls twerked and grinded. Tipping - Now certainly expected at every point and perhaps demanded if you want any attention. The pool towel worker, slouching in a chair, actually kept his hand on the towels already spread out on the counter and tried to stare me down. Not even an Ola! Entertainment - Amateur as is typical of most Dominican resorts but these entertainers are trying. Security - one guest I spoke to was shocked when another guest entered her room with his wrist sensor by mistake. How did that happen? Use the security chains! Overall do not expect to be wowed by any aspect of this resort except for the beach. And remember that service there is entirely dependent on your purchased status. OVERALL VALUE - 3 STARS
