    Do not recommend

Poor in terms of cleanliness of room - daily there were cockroaches. The bath tub was not cleaned properly , toilet bowl nasty , mosquitoes galore . Buffet variety was basic and didnt taste great. The night time shows were entertaining. the a la carte restaurants that we visited food was great and ambience . beach was very crowded , no chairs available. Staff barely spoke english making it difficult to communicate basic things.

    Awful room

I booked this through Delta Vacations, I picked a Junior Suite Superior and traveled with my girlfriend and 5 year old son. At first glance and on the outside the resort looks great. They do a pretty good job of keeping the walkways clear and the beach beautiful. The public bathrooms are heavily perfumed. My family had a decent trip and enjoyed our time... But there were a lot of things we disliked and would not rebook at this resort. I will start with the things we liked: 1. Pools were great, my kid loved the kid's pool playground. 2. Beach was beautiful. 3. While walking around the resort during the mornings and evenings we didn't have problems with mosquitos outside. 4. The trolly service was great and ran very frequently. 5. Lemonade was pretty good. 6. Activities were pretty good and entertaining, including the kid's club. Neutral things: Al la Carte restaurants were alright. Nothing to write home about. People "reserve" the chairs and never come back even though there are signs around the pool saying this isn't allowed. I will say I moved people's towels on multiple occasions, used the chair for 2+ hours and never saw the original towel owner before I left. Here are the things that REALLY took away from our stay. We were in 36209: 1. The room was awful. I've attached a few pictures of the room. --It was infested with mosquitos. We would apply mosquito repellant before going to sleep and still hear them flying near our ears while trying to fall asleep. --They did not seem to clean real well. The hair blow dryer was straight up disgusting (there is a picture) and even the hair on it was there from when we got there until we left. The lightbulbs were covered in dust. There were remnants of squished mosquitos everywhere in the room. Inside the coffee maker looks like it was never cleaned and full of mold. There was even a sticker on the bathroom wall that was never touched. --Exposed/dangerous electrical was everywhere. Exposed wires on all the lamps, outlet dangling out of the wall for the TV. --Only one outlet at the bedside. --There were no comforters or covers on the beds, just 2 sheets. --AC would not keep up, at night we were sweating under our single sheet. --Remote to the TV had batteries leaking acid and would not work. When we let our housekeeper know she said one moment, took the remote, then never returned with it, so we just didn't have one the rest of the time we were there. --The toilets all have stickers advising not to flush toilet paper, but the bins they provide don't have lids. --The safe did not work. No matter how many numbers or what numbers you used to set the PIN, it was say "bad pin" and refuse to lock. --Mirror in the bathroom was held up with packing tape and small blocks of wood. Did I mention how awful the room was? When we asked to be moved we were told we could pay to upgrade. When checking out all I got was a light chuckle when I mentioned the room was awful and should not be used. I also complained to our Delta Vacations rep and nothing was done. 2. Food was not the greatest. A lot of people complain about the food at Barcelo resorts, well this place is a step below that. It is edible and did not make us sick, but it wasn't something we really looked forward to. The food halls also did not have a pleasant smell. 3.Check-in took a long time. We waited about 45 minutes to check in. During this time mosquitos did build up around us in the lobby. If it was a quick process we probably wouldn't have seen the mosquitos. 4. Exposed electrical seems to be a theme here. There were wires running from lamp to lamp on some of the walkways and there were exposed wires coming out of the ground in multiple locations. Overall, I wouldn't book with Bahia again. I would probably pick some other resort.

Does Not hold to a 5 star hotel standard

The biggest negative, food is so awful.got sick and threw up The buffet has a strong smell very awful and unpleasant. The room was not clean, full of mosquitos. And not even the room we ordered. We had in our booking a king size bed, we ended up getting two separate beds We explained to the reception and after 2 hours of waiting got a room changed. He himself admitted that room he gave us had mold. Why would you give someone a room that you know has mold. If this is a 5 star, I fear to know what a 4 star or 3 star is here Absolutely disgusted If you order from room service to get something done or even bring a water bottle, they bring after a 6 hour delay. Absolutely horrible. I would never come here ,and never recommend to anyone else

Great Staff and Weather, but Several Frustrations with Food Quality, and Bugs

We stayed at Bahia Principe Grand Punta Cana as a large group—three families with six adults and five kids, spread over 3 suites. While there were definitely moments of enjoyment, especially for the kids, there were also several challenges that impacted our overall experience. The positives were easy to appreciate. The weather was fantastic throughout our stay, and the resort grounds are lovely for walks and outdoor relaxation. The pools were clean, although crowded at times, but inviting, with enough space for both kids and adults to enjoy. The entertainment staff did a great job organizing fun activities without being overbearing. Most of the staff members we interacted with were extremely friendly and helpful—especially those working in housekeeping, restaurants, and around the pool. Some of the bars served great cocktails, although quality varied depending on the location. Exploring a bit helped us find a couple of favorites. On the downside, check-in was slow and disorganized, despite having completed online check-in ahead of time. The front desk staff seemed overwhelmed and unfamiliar with the system, which led to long waits and confusion—not ideal for a group with children after a long tiring international flight, and everyone hungry on top of that. The main dining halls (there are 2) feel very dated and in need of serious renovation. We noticed scratched tables, chipped paint, dusty light fixtures, and a strong, unpleasant smell likely due to poor ventilation. On top of that, the buffet items were not adequately labeled for allergens or dietary preferences like veg/vegan, making meal choices more difficult for some in our group. The beach, though naturally beautiful, was often crowded. A large number of vendors selling tours and excursions were constantly present. While they weren’t aggressive, the repetitive solicitations for the same services added to the crowding and detracted from the relaxing beach experience we were hoping for. Another significant downside was the pricing in the on-site stores. Prices were extremely inflated, clearly targeting captive guests who may have forgotten essentials. For example, we paid $16 USD for a pair of children’s swim goggles, only to find the exact same pair for about $3 USD equivalent at Blue Mall Punta Cana the next day. A simple softball that might cost $5 back home in the U.S. was priced over $25. A single disposable shaving blade cost me $4—an item that could easily be bought by the dozen in the U.S. for that price. It’s definitely worth double-checking your packing list before arrival, because forgetting something will cost you. Mosquitoes were also an ongoing nuisance—even indoors—and made relaxing at night more difficult. And while the poolside snack option, the Food Truck, might seem convenient, it was hands down the worst food experience we had at the resort. In summary, Bahia Principe Grand Punta Cana offers warm weather, friendly staff, and kid-friendly pools and entertainment—but falls short in several areas, especially for families. The check-in process, dining experience, beach crowding, and exorbitant store prices were major letdowns. With some operational and facility improvements, this resort has potential, but as it stands, it’s a mixed experience. Worth considering if your expectations are managed and your bags are well-packed
