    Another Perfect Vacation

5th stay at a Bahia Property, 3rd at Ambar! Sept 24-Oct 1st. We had a Corner Swimout, 60117, definitely the way to go! Checkin was perfect, got our welcome drink and cool cloth, and the front desk worked hard making sure they fulfilled our requests, we arrived early, went to lunch, relaxed in lobby till room was ready, room was perfect, clean and well stocked. They immediately brought up the rollaway bed we needed and our luggage. Staff were as amazing as usual, from front desk, to our lovely housekeeper, to entertainment and everyone in between! Kerlin and Nono ( coffee, coffee 😊) at buffet made us feel very welcomed and special at the buffet Meals: MEAT was delicious, our steaks were fork tender, my daughter got the specialty TBONE for her birthday, it was massive, and delicious. GREEK, service was a bit slow, but food was very good, YURTA was AMAZING, food was my favorite, atmosphere was beautiful and staff was great, going to book that twice next time. TAINO was good, great service and atmosphere, not exactly my taste, but worth the visit. LIMBO never disappoints, and PORTOFINO had our favorite appetizers, Arrancini, Beef Carpaccio and Burrata! Also, their Amaretto house drink was the best drink in any restaurant! Pool and beach were beautiful, pool Parties, barbecues and Dominican lunch at the pool and beach were delicious! Loved the Fire Show, but truthfully, I was so tired from all day in the sun, having a blast, fell asleep earlier than I wanted lol Bahia Luxury Ambar is everything I could ask for on Vacation, can’t wait till I book again for next year

Loved our stay at Bahia Principe Ambar

We really enjoyed our trip to Bahia Principe Ambar!! The accommodation was clean and comfortable, the food was delicious and plentiful, and everyone there was very kind and helpful. A huge shout out to the entertainment staff, who make every day a party!! No one works as hard as these folks do at the resort. And all of the waitstaff, the cleaners, and the gardeners were kind and friendly. We started with a corner room, which was really lovely, but decided to upgrade to a swim-up suite after the first two days, which was a great decision. It was so nice to just chill in our own pool in the late afternoon. The beach is really clean and easy to swim in. They do a great job cleaning up the seaweed every morning. The pool is clean and there are plenty of chairs and umbrellas available. The waitresses are attentive to take your orders, or you can just walk to the bar. Our favorite restaurant experience was Limbo - loved the food and the service. We also liked The Greek and the main buffet for this resort was very impressive! We did make our reservations for dinners in advance, but we changed some of them based on our preferences once we got there. We booked the hotel transfer through the resort on the hotel website, and it was just $70 round trip for two people in a private van, which I thought was very reasonable. No problems finding the company on arrival to the airport and didn't have to wait for the driver on either end. We did not do any excursions outside the resort this time. My husband and I have been to all inclusive resorts in Mexico and Jamaica, and we loved this one way more by far. Mainly because of the people at the resort, but also because of the beautiful surroundings. You just can't beat the Dominican!! Overall, this is a very comfortable resort and wonderful value for what we paid. I would highly recommend it.

Bahia Principe Luxury Ambar - not so luxury

My honest review of the Bahia Principe Luxury Ambar. We are an American couple who travelled to celebrate my birthday with another couple. There were many things that were not great about this resort mainly the hospitality and friendliness of the staff but overall, we made the best of our weeklong stay at the Ambar. Upon arrival to the Aquamarine lobby, we were transported within 5 minutes via tram to the Ambar lobby. We were not greeted with welcome drinks or cold towels. We arrived at 1:30 and there was no line to check in at the lobby. We were told our room would be ready within 30 minutes. We went to the lobby bar, ordered drinks, and ate lunch at the buffet. We inquired multiple times until our room was ready 3 hours later. Our bags were transported by golf cart to our room promptly, however we were instructed to walk to our room with our butler, whom we never seen or heard from again. We were in tower 64 on the 3rd floor. We had a partial ocean view. The room was mediocre at best. We were there to celebrate my birthday which the resort had been notified, however my room was never decorated as others were. For being recently renovated, the room lacked the “ new feel” artwork on the walls was falling off, bedside light would not turn off (we had to call maintenance to come and fix it), patio door handle was falling off not allowing door to open and close properly, shower drain did not work properly, and the beds were hard. Tower 64 is noisy; the music is loud until 11pm from the pool entertainment. We requested wash cloths via the app and extra water and beer which we promptly received. Our housekeeper did a good job; however she did not speak any English and the communication barrier was difficult. There was no “pillow menu” as advertised for Ambar guests. We were unable to find a tram to take us to our first dinner at the Taino Dominican restaurant, so we ventured out and walked to Esmeralda. We ordered the duck and steak; both were good but did not have much seasoning. Dress code was not enforced. The next morning, we headed to the beautiful beach. The workers that clean the beach do an amazing job; the seaweed was cleaned all day every day. There are a ton of chairs/seating available but not if you want a front row shaded seat. The further back you sit, there is no airflow, and it is very hot! We found that seats were reserved by 5:30 am every morning. The sellers on the beach could be annoying but were quick to walk away after saying no. The breakfast buffet was not much to write about, the food was dry and lukewarm. The omelet station was good, but they cook with a ton of oil. The servers at the beach work hard, however there are not enough of them for the amount of people on the beach. We only received drinks by a server 3 times during our entire stay which was disappointing as we pay for this extra service. The pool felt more like a hot tub and was not refreshing at all, we spent most of our time at the beach. Drinks were very inconsistently made, and they often ran out of things. Some drinks tasted like straight vodka, while others seemed to have no liquor at all, this was throughout the resort pool, beach, and lobby bars. The only exception is the LIMBO bar which is an absolute must. These bartenders are so friendly and welcoming and make the BEST drinks! The Ambar beach buffet was closed for renovations during our stay, another reason we had upgraded to Ambar but were unable to utilize this amenity. Our next dinner was at El Olivio again, we were unable to get a tram and were told it’s just a short walk. The lamb chops and beef were both amazing and perfectly prepared, however the restaurant was ridiculously hot! It was not an open-air restaurant, but they did not have AC. After dinner, we stayed at Aquamarine and watched the fire show. The performers did an excellent job! We grabbed a drink at the Sports Bar on our walk back. Later that evening we ordered room service, which was promptly delivered within 15 minutes, we utilized this service a few times during our stay and did not experience any issues. We also frequented the coffee shop multiple times throughout the day, service was quick, and drinks were good. We ate our next dinner at MEAT, everything was excellent. The servers sang happy birthday and danced with a special dessert. We went to the casino and village to explore that evening. Stopped by the Sports Bar on our way back and enjoyed some chicken wings and mozzarella sticks. I made a reservation for a massage and hydrotherapy at the spa. The Ambar spa was closed, another extra amenity that was not available. We were given a ride to the main spa. My massage was wonderful, and the hydrotherapy room was very relaxing and had many options available. We had our next dinner at the Brazilian restaurant. Most of the food was ok, except for the lamb it tasted freezer burnt. The evening views from this restaurant were breathtaking. We went to Yurta for dinner twice, the food was soooo good however it was very hot in the restaurant, dress accordingly. After dinner, we went to the Limbo bar and spent the evening enjoying conversation and drinks with the bar tenders. This is the kind of service/experience we expected from all the staff at Ambar but did not receive. At the end of our stay, we used the app to request someone to help with our luggage, within 15 minutes help had arrived and transported us to the check out which was quick.

    We were treated like garbage

Dont go there the place went to hell! We were humiliated by restaurant employees. We were thrown out of a restaurant for wearing shorts and A shirt on a very hot night and the place, as many others HAD NO AIR CONDITIONING! We filed complaints, nobody cared. $4,000 wasted

    Great hotel, many let downs.

Just returning from an absolutely beautiful trip away. I often travel solo and this hotel is ideal for solo travellers, as often these sorts of resorts are heavily designed to be romantic for couples or ideal for families, but this hotel was perfect for those who like a little solitude! Upon arrival the coaches/taxis only go as far as the Bahia Grand Aquamarine, so we was waiting around there for around half an hour to check-in and be brought to the correct hotel. We was given cold fresh towels and an absolutely stunning cocktail whilst we waited. The room: I had booked the swim-up corner Junior Suite for my stay and I was delighted with the room. It was spotless and well presented - the minibar was topped up daily and towels replenished as needed. The TV was a little confusing as the remote had very limited buttons and the channels weren't of much interest to English-speaking folk, but I did connect my iPad to the TV through HDMI so watched that mostly. There was no insects at all, during my entire stay I didn't even see a cobweb let alone a spider, and there was no cockroaches or anything like that - there are many cats all over the resort so I imagine that has something to do with it. The pool: I didn't use the main pool at all, my room had the swim-up and was in the sun from around 11am till 5pm so I remained there. The pool was very refreshing and was never too cold in the slightest. It was cleaned often and was behind some bushes so provided some privacy. The wait staff could provide service to the pools, but they did not. This is where the hotel begins to separate itself from other 5-star hotels I have stayed at, if you needed a drink or a snack you would have to walk to the main pool (or the coffee shop which was nearest) to get something. I just drank water all day from my minibar so it wasn't a pressing issue - but those in the rooms next to me did get annoyed with the lack of service. The food: I ate each night at an A La Carte restaurant so I only used the buffet for breakfast once. It was fine but nothing special. For a 5-star I expected a little more choice and higher quality. The restaurants were fine - you need to book these in advance on the app, there are comments to book these as far ahead as you can but as I went during a quiet time there were plenty spaces available each day. The Italian restaurant was okay, the menus are limited but the food was decent. The worst for me was the 'steakhouse' known as 'M.E.A.T.'. If I was paying for that steak in a restaurant back home I would've sent it back - was extremely fatty, under-cooked and little seasoning. The best was the Mexican restaurant, with cocktails topped up frequently and the food was incredible, and the best service I had during the tip. My biggest gripe with the restaurants was the staff made you feel little rushed. As soon as you finish the starter it is whipped off the table and the main was placed down, and again for the dessert. I was in each restaurant for around 45 minutes, not given a chance to let food settle or take my time. Staff: The staff I interacted with posed no issue, and were all very friendly. I'm not too sure on where the comments regarding the staff rudeness are coming from, I think maybe the staff are blunt, and don't engage much in small talk but it isn't rudeness. I gather from these reviews the majority saying they are rude are from American reviewers, and service in the USA is extremely over the top and in your face so I assume they are not used to being left alone and not engaged with in shops and restaurants. Yes, the staff could be a little more gracious but nothing to overly complain about. The beach: Postcard-like picturesque. Yes there is a lot of seaweed, but the staff consistently collect what they can and it can't really be helped. There were plenty of beds but I was travelling out of their peak season. Again, service on the beach would've been great but this was not provided. The vendors on the beach will simply not leave you alone - every 10 minutes someone is selling an excursion, a photo with a parrot, a coconut, glasses, hats... It's highly frustrating and I even pretended to be asleep to avoid a couple of them! It's the harassment and lack of service why I only spent one day at the beach, it's impossible to relax, and this really brings the hotel down. Entertainment: This was arguably the worst part, at night there is simply nothing to do. They have a singer whom I thought was a guest taking part in karaoke it was that questionable, and the saxophonist was okay but boring to watch. I spent most evenings on the terrace at my room. The area around the hotel is very rough - as our coach was driving through we were shocked that this is where the resort was! We was informed by our rep on the coach not to leave the resort alone unless you are with an excursion, not that we needed telling. It is very safe and secure in the resort, however. I will not return to any Bahia resort, especially for the price you do not get a truly 5-star resort. It is a nice hotel, but the food, area it is located, entertainment and service let it down massively.
