Food is inedible & served with a side of sewage

Several families went as a group for New Years 2026. POSITIVES. The beach is beautiful & grounds well kept & pretty. Beds were comfortable enough. Weather was great. We didn't get diarrhea from the water. It's a massive complex but they have a trolley which is convenient & covered walkways when it rains. Gym (incl) was fine. NEGATIVES. Everything else was disappointing. 20% staff were friendly/helpful, 40% bored/disinterested, 20% hostile. Very little info about what to do. Hard to book our allocation of 4 restaurants before 8:30pm (I think this is different if you speak Spanish). 2 of these restaurants had terrible service & food. 2 were decent, maybe 6/10. The food overall at the resort is TERRIBLE. I can not stress this enough. The buffet is huge but much of it is inedible & the rest worse than average taste. The decor in the buffet feels worse than hospital cafeteria. It's chaos too. Never enough set tables with cutlery, water; coffee machines always broken. But the worst was the overwhelming smell of sewage entering the buffet & sports bar. It's unbelievable & Nauseating. But you have no other choice, so bon appetite! MANY activities are extra $. Small waterpark $10 per. Pool game for 1 hr $8. Bowling, etc. No entertainment/show free for NYE! They did have a set meal for NYE which was edible. You can kayak for free, the pools, 1 game mini putt was free, sun loungers for free. Get up early to get a lounger though! Other nights (not NYE) there is a free show. The Michael Jackson one was fun, karaoke too. Others were very low quality (high school shows are better!) Half our party had nice rooms. The other half were small & dark decor with issues (leaking shower - water all through the room, tv hanging off the wall) & the worst...always DAMP regardless of air conditioning setting. Yuck. 17 yr old daughter constantly had male staff "meowing" at her, ringing bells, general harassment. Last night, the room with older teenagers had two people trying to break into their room...we left the next day to catch very early flight so didn't report it. (Parents didn't hear about it until we left.) Honestly, we were just excited to get the heck out of there! For the holiday season, this cost a lot of money & was very disappointing & not relaxing. *Good enough if you just want to enjoy a nice beach & get drunk (drinks were free and lines moved at the bar quickly). We will not be going back! (The 2* is generous, and for the beach.)

    Excellent facilities

Just wanted to be in the Caribbean for Christmas and New Years. Staff were friendly and welcoming. The food was excellent, plentiful, and varied. service at the reception was top notch and attentive. Room was clean - though dated and comfortable Our housekeeping person Agustina Diaz, did an amazing job. Very attentive. This is a huge facility. But I stayed on the adult side. No complaints about the stay here.

    No reservations available

We were very disappointed in this property. From staying at other Barceló properties, this was an extreme let down. Biggest issues were the basics. Consistency in getting towels- were not given towel cards at check and it was a gamble if a hand towel or a shower towel would be available in our room. Restocking of the mini fridge even after paying the man, still wouldn’t be updated. We had premium level but it doesn’t mean anything. We were unable to get any reservations that we wanted and even had a reservation scheduled on our first day at 1045 pm at the buffet that was completely empty. Staff was not friendly, helpful, proactive or welcoming. It was almost as if you were putting them out by asking for a table to be reset since it was already used or showing up for your reservation. The grounds and beach were beautiful, but the little things really added up. We won’t be back, and sadly probably won’t try a barcelo again. Save your money on the premium package, still question what the purpose was.

    OVERRATED

The resort has beautiful landscaping but the accommodations are not worth the price paid for the value received.
