    Average. Not 5 star service.

We paid for premium but a lot of service and details were lacking. Lights in bathrooms didn’t work in first suite. The reception desk didn’t seem to know how to handle this as they took their time discussing among themselves until we asked if we could get another room. That was accommodated. With premium level we still had to wait in line for check in. The new suite is fine. They’re large but that’s what we paid for. Dated. Showers didn’t get hot. Leaking tap. Poor water pressure. Details like no room service menu nor menus for the 3 restaurants (not buffet) available. Detail like showing us how to get to our room was overlooked. No luggage cart when we brought our luggage in. I’d be fine with all of this for a 3 star hotel but not a 5. And not for premium level.

    Barcelo Karmina stay.

This is a beautiful, very well maintained hotel. Had an issue with the room quality, but reception staff rectified the issue right away. The rooms large, as well as their bathrooms and great views from the balcony.. Staff do an excellent job, even around the pools was spotless. The clientele 80% Mexican families and 20% tourists who skewed older retirees. There is an adult only pool which was very quiet. Lobby bar was a great place to end the day and there was a piano player nightly. Being a smaller hotel, there is a smaller amount of choice in the buffet. The a la cartes were very good but not always open. The buffet did not open for lunch until 1:30PM but other then that food quality was good. A small peeve was that you could not access the long beach to the South from the resort. You had to walk to the main entrance by the main road and walk about a kilometer to gain access to the beach. Only benefit, other than the walking , was a Starbucks along the way. Our stay was very enjoyable and the highlights were the friendly staff and the nightly shows. The service and facilities were extraordinary. Every detail was evident and thoughtful. The views and landscaping are amazing. There were so many activities to choose from, or enough space to just relax. The room was spacious and clean, the food was good ~ except they didn't have guacamole during our trip!

    terrible scam once you arrive

find another hotel - once you arrive they want to add on extra charges for everything- all inclusive but once you try to make reservations at a restaurant they all full- and you walk by in the evenings and restaurants are empty - you only have snack area where they offer food during day. our TV didnt work it would black out.

    Enjoyable

This is a beautiful, very well maintained hotel. I never saw a thing in need of repair, which is more than I can say for higher end places I've stayed. The rooms large, as well as their bathrooms. Staff do an excellent job, even around the pools was spotless. The clientele 80% Mexican families and 20% tourists who skewed older retirees. This is not party central. There was a guy who played piano in the lobby before supper for a bit and their little show ran 9-10pm. Being a smaller hotel, there is a smaller amount of choice in the buffet. The a la cartes were good. Lunch was a small peeve. You had 3 options. Pre cooked hamburgers and hotdogs in a tray at a beach shack. A little sit down restaurant where you could order a small amout of things like sandwiches/wraps etc. That was only open half the time we were there. Otherwise you had to wait for the buffet to open for lunch at 1:30pm. My other small peeve was that there is a gate in the resort to the long beach to the South if you wanted to walk the beach, or visit Walmart or the mall right there. They would not allow you to use the gate. So it was a 1/2 mile walk out to the street, then past a golf course and back down. So a one and a quarter mile walk to get to that beach on the other side of their gate. Nit picking aside, I enjoyed my stay and I will return to this resort some time down the road.
