Be aware of the booking, I was told I could not have a double bed because reservations the next day were saved for them, so my son(17) and his uncle(32) had to sleep in the same bed because who wants to sleep on a day bed that is hard. This is after going to the front desk multiple times and was told nothing was available. The rooms are so out dated. We did have an issue with the tub being clogged and the iron was broken, but they were on it and got it fixed quick. The bathrooms smelled throughout the hotel. I would wait to go back to my room to use the bathroom because they smelt so bad. Walking distance to the beach is great. Did not like the smoking allowed, but there were little seaweed so it was nice. The only not staff that were not nice was at the Kyoto restaurant. There were confusion with our reservation and they were so rude about it. I would not stay here again or recommend.

Wonderful Stay at Barceló Maya Tropical
We had a wonderful stay at Barceló Maya Tropical. The resort was beautiful, clean, and well maintained. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help. We enjoyed the restaurants, beach, pools, and overall atmosphere. It was a great vacation with friends, and we would gladly return.

OK time but would never go back
Look, it’s a B. If you’re going with kids aged 2 and 4 then this review if for you. And that might be generous. - rooms old. Our power went out. Sink blasts water. Toilet flusher sticks. Tub drain kept coming out of place. Teeny rooms. - food good. No complaints considering all inclusive food is often bad. The Italian restaurant is to be skipped. The Hibachi was very good. No snack places around. - drinks disappointing. They don’t know how to make a margarita. Enough said. - service not great. Inconsistent but mostly poor. You’re not going to get 5 star treatment from staff here. - pools good. Very pretty. Clean. - kids spaces good. Kids clubs activities just ok. Kids area with water slides included in the Tropical grounds very good. Bowling is by height so small kids cannot play. - size too big. This place is huge. Getting to the mall and the main kids area was a hike. - other. We booked an excursion to Xcaret which is close and awesome. That should be experienced. However, booking with the staff they were very nice, but misquoted me on a deal. Then, we were not on the list for the shuttle bus day off and caused lots of confusion, some panic, and slow downs. Overall, I would never stay here again. Too many other places that are more deserving of the money.

Family vacation
The overall experience was very good. Almost all of the staff provided great service and a welcoming atmosphere.
