  Great Location, Very Disappointing Cleanliness & Service

  The location of Barceló Puerto Vallarta is beautiful, but unfortunately, the cleanliness and service were very disappointing. During our stay, my daughter became very sick with repeated vomiting after eating at the hotel. She required a visit from the hotel doctor and was sick for approximately 12 hours. She was the only person in our group who became ill, so we reported this as a possible foodborne illness/contamination concern to the appropriate authorities for investigation. What disappointed me most was the hotel's response. The supervisor who came to our room did not introduce himself and seemed more concerned about the "Do Not Disturb" sign than my sick child. After telling him what was happening, he simply said the doctor was on the way and left. No one from management followed up with us afterward to ask how my daughter was doing. I also personally saw flies around food at the buffet, which was very concerning. The pool area was another issue—on several occasions, cups from the previous night were still floating in the pool, and I saw lemons floating in the water as well. It's unfortunate because the location is excellent, but cleanliness, food-safety concerns, and the lack of caring service really overshadowed the positives. For a Premium-level resort, I expected much better. I would not recommend this hotel to families looking for a clean resort with attentive management.

  A Beautiful Family Vacation in Mismaloya — 8.5–9/10

  We spent 14 nights at Barceló Puerto Vallarta as a family of three adults, and overall we had a wonderful and memorable vacation. The resort's greatest strength is undoubtedly its spectacular location. Nestled between lush green jungle-covered mountains and the Pacific Ocean, with the beautiful Los Arcos nearby, the setting is absolutely breathtaking. Our room was very comfortable and had a clear view of the Pacific Ocean and the surrounding jungle-covered mountains. We were fortunate that the friendly front-desk team upgraded us to a room with a den, which made our stay even more comfortable. Throughout the vacation, the staff were generally friendly, helpful and accommodating, and we had no significant problems with service. The pool area was excellent, and the entire property was beautifully maintained and surrounded by tropical greenery. The jacuzzi was decent, although it could have been a little stronger. The food was probably the weakest part of our experience. We found it generally healthy and fresh but somewhat bland, and it didn't quite match the quality of the resort's beautiful surroundings. During our stay, all of us also experienced stomach problems for several days. We cannot say with certainty what caused it—it may have been something we consumed, including some juices—and we don't want to unfairly attribute it to the resort. It did unfortunately keep us indoors for a few days. Interestingly, those quiet days turned into something positive: uninterrupted family time. In that sense, the unexpected downtime became an important part of our vacation. The excursions from Mismaloya were fantastic. We visited Los Arcos, Colomitos, Las Ánimas, Madagascar, Quimixto and Majahuitas. The highlight was our trip to Quimixto Falls, including an ATV ride through the area. I also had the opportunity to snorkel at Majahuitas. The combination of jungle, mountains, waterfalls, beaches and the Pacific Ocean makes this part of Puerto Vallarta particularly special. Most importantly, our family had a wonderful time together. Our son celebrated his 21st birthday during the vacation, continuing a family tradition of beach vacations we've had since he was a child. Would we return? Yes. Barceló Mismaloya isn't perfect, particularly when it comes to the food, but the location, scenery, comfortable rooms, pool, friendly staff and incredible access to some of Puerto Vallarta's best natural attractions make it a very compelling destination. Overall rating: 8.5–9/10 Best for: Families, couples and anyone who prioritizes spectacular natural surroundings, ocean views, relaxation and excursions over gourmet dining. Our biggest takeaway:The jungle meets the Pacific here—and that's something you simply can't manufacture.

  Grateful Getaway

  We loved the tranquil feeling, being on the beach and seeing the mountains behind, with wonderful sunrises and sunsets. Isolated but not isolated. Away from the business of the city; but Puerto Vallarta is only 20 minutes, from Mismaloya in an Uber, to explore. Everyone was friendly. Especially thankful to have met David (M?) as he served during the meals. Moises (Moses) as he was around the pool. Martin was a charmer, funny and easy to talk to at the jewelry store on sight. Andy worked the towel counter like he owned it; with excellence. Joel the “bell boy” was very caring, compassionate and knowledgeable. The heart of Puerto Vallarta resonates within it’s people; and Isabel, who set up dinner reservations from the premiere guest lounge desk, was the most welcoming hostess, warm, bubbly and always had an inviting smile on her face. On our last morning, David said, “See you next year.” I so wish as my wife and I would be honored to do so. I’m ready for another piña colada. Thank you for a blessed time.

  Family Holiday in Puerto Vallarta.

  We stayed at Barcelo Puerto Vallarta for the first time this year for our annual family reunion trip. We had a very good stay! We experienced the most stunning sunsets and the weather was perfect! There seemed to always be a breeze. It would rain in the evenings, which would help cool the temperature down a bit, to a comfortable level. The beach is super clean, calm and swimmable. We actually spent most of our time in the ocean rather than the pool. It is nice that they have hot tubs for the adults and also an adult pool! The kids are entertained as it is, so when we wanted some R&R, we were able to relax too! The fact that we were able to book a two bedroom suite for a young family of 4 was an absolute treat! It is so nice to get out own space and some separation... We upgraded to premium level as well and it was well worth it! A true VIP experience indeed. The lounge access was a nice touch, particularly in the mornings for a quick breakfast before a tour. Overall, the food was okay, but nothing special. Our favorite restaurant was Los Arcos. We visited for lunch nearly every day and went for dinner there twice. We appreciated the dress code be because one gentleman in our party did not have close-toed shoes! Frankly, it is a silly rule, you should reconsider, by the way... No one really cares! The buffet restaurant was good, there was lots of variety but after a few days you get tired of it. The first night was Asian night and the food was terrible, tasteless and bland. I remember us talking about it and wondering if the food would be the same all week! Thankfully it improved along the way... Capri, the Italian restaurant was not good either, particularly the service! The worst we had all week... Kioto, the Japanese restaurant was ok, but why in the world would you fry up and entire sushi roll in tempura batter, instead of just the shrimp? We ended up wasting two entire rolls! It was heavy and we just could not eat it all. Overall, Kioto was great, but it is the first time we have ever seen tempura rolls prepped that way? If you head down to the beach you can negotiate tours with local vendors and that is what we did! It was such a great time and affordable compared to booking via tour desk. We went to Las Caletas one day and it was U$159 per person, kids free (booked via tour desk)... Neat experience but an absolute let down for the price. If you compare we did a 12- hour boat tour with Alexander Tours off the beach for a fraction of the price - we visited every island and also the Quimixto, where the waterfall is and were lucky enough to see dolphins at the end of the tour! Consider talking to Alexander instead. He has an Instagram page also. Shout-out to our favorite servers Cristian Macias and Moises at the pool! They were awesome at anticipating our needs and should be commended for their great service! Give them a bonus, will ya? We used to go to Cancun for holidays but actually liked PVR better and more accessible for us, so we will consider returning again in the future. We definitely recommend Barcelo Puerto Vallarta. It was an enjoyable week and we had a memorable experience!
