Friendly relaxed hotel in beautiful St Lucia
We had an amazing holiday at this small friendly hotel. Exceptional value for 2 weeks away from the depressing UK weather. The food was fantastic. We had an excellent cooking demo from the chef. They use as much local produce as possible and cook from scratch. People complaining about limited food choices must be the faddy types. The food isn’t like the glamorous buffets on offer at 5* hotels, it’s wholesome and home cooked. You could eat a different type of meal for a whole month if you wanted to. There’s a snack bar if you must have something with chips. The fresh tuna salad there is stunning. High quality cocktails, decent wine and spirits all included. We really enjoyed the activities with Jafrey, he’s a huge credit to the hotel. Starting the day with early Yoga or walking on the beach then a chill afternoon, perfect. Shout out to Mikey the most enthusiastic bag mover in the world. Also the happy smiley chap who was always busy keeping the paint work in order and fixing other things. Rooms are basic Caribbean style but super clean, there’s something wrong with you if you want to spend much time in your room on a Caribbean holiday. Honestly can’t believe the excellent value of this place. It’s not super luxury, you’d pay 5 x for that and have half the fun. Massive thank you to the staff at Bel Jou xxxx

Just book it !!
Sitting by the pool on our last day reflecting on our 10 day trip. We loved almost everything about the hotel . The amazing staff , they cannot do enough for you and always with a genuine happy smile. The cleanliness of rooms and surroundings 10/10 Drinks are very good, best wine we've had on an AI Food is delicious but like a few people have said the menu gets a bit repetitive, but overall I'd say 8/10 Lunch was our favourite 10/10 by lulus cabana. The shuttle to the beach is excellent and the driver is so helpful. 10/10 We booked some trips with local taxi man Pecko , very good and our driver Alex was ace. Negotiate your fares as they will vary on how many people etc. We went to pigeon island which is lovely $10 entry fee but you can use their sunbeds for just an extra $3 once you've seen the area and the beach was lovely. Mikey's whale watching trip was amazing. Saw large pods of dolphins and a family of Sperm whales. Definitely one to try and hopefully be as lucky as us. The only thing I think could be improved upon is the Coffee shop , just basic coffee and tea , a latte or cappuccino would be nice without having to pay extra. But sitting there watching the hummingbirds is lovely so don't miss that . So would be good back yes definitely. Yes it's not on the beach but Vigie beach is fabulous so long for lovely walks along the sea . And other beaches we've seen I prefer this one , quiet and a piton beer is $3 at the bar. The views across the harbour while dining makes up for it. One last trip to try is Tikaye resort if you like snorkeling the fish by the rocks were amazing. Large blue parrot fish, puffa fish shoals if tropical fish and more , entrance is $10 but they take that off any drinks or food ordered at the bar and you get a free sunbed . I recommend that one .

Bel Jou. St Lucia
I had been looking at the reviews of this hotel for a couple of years and they were great so we booked in Feb 25 to come Feb 26 with BA. Unfortunately the reviews seemed to start to go down hill from mid last year all saying similar things about the food… Hotel is small and the top rooms have a great view. We knew it wasn’t on the beach and they have a shuttle to take you to one and back but obviously there is no food or drink included at the beach… Pros.. Hotel and flights package was reasonably priced. Most of the staff are great and serve/ greet with a smile particularly Princess, Janet and one whose name begins with a V, the girl on the eggs/ roast who is always singing..Mikey and a few others But there are some that need to be become more customer friendly!! The rooms ( we had 506) were nice and the bed comfy. View was good but in the end the lack of a beach started to make us realise that we were wishing we were on one directly. Cocktails were pretty good. Food ( or what there is) is quite tasty most times although the breakfast was the best meal. Quite easy to get beds around the pool without getting up ultra early. Pecko the taxi guy is great and we took a day trip with him …private and tailored to us and cheaper than the organised trips. Cons; FOOD; very very limited and not always good or hot. When it is so limited to run out of items makes it even worse. A lot of the people staying all said the same thing about it being so limited.. The plates/ bowls etc that the food is set on are so small 5 people could empty them in seconds but they were in no hurry to replenish them and sometimes couldn’t because that item they had no more of, and that was an hour into dinner so if you are late eaters good luck! It really lets the hotel down. Whilst I understand it’s good to keep waste down I’ve never seen such a small selection at a hotel. We ended up going out for a few nights ( Spinakers in Rodney Bay was excellent) DRINKS: No mini bar in room although there is a fridge,( first for us on an all inc.) Not even a bottle of water, although they have a fill station of filtered water near the reception so bring your own cooler. Coffee was straight or decaf, if you wanted anything else it would cost you 3-4-5 US dollars so not even subsidised at that cost… Would we come back? Definitely not! Mainly because of the lack of food choice and the lack of a nice beach.

A Very Special Boutique Resort A Hidden Gem To Relax And Chill
This review is long overdue and the great reviews you read are true but you can't please everyone, reading some of the reviews I wonder if we are talking about the same hotel. We have had many holidays in the Caribbean on different islands, Ok not everything was perfect but the good far, far outweighed the little niggles. The hotel itself is beautiful — perched on a lush steep hillside with incredible views over Castries and the Caribbean Sea but be aware there is lots and lots of steep steps everywhere in the hotel grounds. Every corner of the hotel feels peaceful and surrounded by nature. We loved waking up to the sound of birds and ending the day watching the sunset from the our balcony. It is great value for money, ok its not a huge 5 star hotel and resort but what the hotel and staff do bring is a huge personality and love for the guests. The pool areas are great, spotlessly clean with towels on ready supply from reception. There is a self service bar by the larger pool with a ready supply of beer, wine, spirits, mixers etc. There is also a self service coffee area with snacks and hot drinks all day. There is a free shuttle bus that will take you down to the beach or into Castries town several times during the day most days of the week. Our room was spotless, spacious, and very comfortable, with all the little touches that make a big difference. Make friends with your housekeeper and be kind to them and you will find like us the housekeeping was absolutely faultless throughout our stay. The management Dean greets you personally on the managers cocktail night on monday nights and all the management really take the time to talk with you and assure that you're happy with everything and unlike many hotels Dean is available to talk too anytime if you have issues. The staff here, whatever their role are wonderful. They are so kind, friendly and constantly helpful. They really do want to make your stay perfect everyone from the hard working landscapers, the grounds are immaculately tended with some gorgeous plants and of course full of beautiful busy hummingbirds, the maintenance staff, waiting staff, chefs, management, bartenders but regretfully on too many occasions from certain staff it was as if they didnt want to be there and the guests requests were too much of an effort and a pain ... smiling really dosn't cost anything. The Caribbean barbecue and the Creole food nights with the brilliant live steel band and singers and fire eaters along with traditional St Lucian dancers combined with copius amounts of Caribbean cocktails is amazing. I defy you not to enjoy it and have fun. It totally brings out why so many people love the Carribean Island vibe and their people. Breakfast could not be faulted as it had all the ingredients for a full english and continental breakfast. The rest of the food is a nice mix of Saint Lucian local favourites and some select British foods, as the majority of the resort was full of Brits and American tourists. With that being said, the vibe is a little more toned down than some other Carribean resorts we have visited and afternoons are nice to swim or quietly read and enjoy quiet time as they do not play music at the pools I wouldn't recommend renting a car to the area if you're uncomfortable with very steep hills and very narrow roads with big drops off the side. If you've never been to this island, please keep in mind it's extremely mountainous as opposed to other Caribbean islands. However, any cab the hotel ordered for us had an extremely polite and well equipped driver. If you can drive in Saint Lucia, you can probably drive anywhere in the world. I have to mention by name the absolutey incredible one man entertainment staff a totally amazing one man show named Jahfrey man you really made my holiday complete and also an absolutely, amazing chef with a huge smile and a huge personality called Jolie and an amazing waitress Precious as she went far and beyond, nothing was too much trouble for her always with a smile from ear to ear whatever time of day or night that just totally cheered you up. If you need anything or aren't happy with anything give them a chance put it right as they will always go above and beyond... Overall, amazing views, great staff and well looked after, happy guests, and clean amenities. I would happily stay at the Bel Jou again if I am back in Saint Lucia.
