    Not a 4 star review

At first glance, Bel Jeu is a quaint little resort high up on the hill at Castries. First for the good news...rooms are spacious and the cleaning staff do a nice job. Lovely views of the Carribean from our balcony. Now for some negatives...sorry I really do hate to complain. While others have raved about the food, I must disagree. I am not a fan of buffet style and Bel Jeu held the standard for luke warm food. While there was variety each night with a theme, it literally tasted the same. We ate at the specialty restaurant the Hummingbird. Nothing special about it. Mediocre at best with a massive surcharge if you wanted a steak...$60 to $75 USD. Three choices for dessert. The hotel is not on the beach, so you must take the complimentary shuttle or risk your life an walk down a very steep road. The shower was a typical cruise style and very small. If we were lucky, we would get hot water mid afternoon. They seemed to have issues with supply as they ran out of lettuce and the fixings for a pina colada. The nightly entertainment went from karaoke to a fireeater and limbo night (that was the best). The property is showing its age and some serious upgrades are in order. Staff were friendly enough but tend to go on island speed. Overall not a horrible place, but certainly not 4 or 5 star.

    A great experience

Lovely hotel set on a hillside overlooking Castries. Cannot fault a thing ❗ Good well equipped accommodation, tasty food (although a little repetative), good selection of drinks, very drinkable red wine❗ Above all, EXCELLENT STAFF, nothing is too much trouble and always happy.

    Fantastic, friendly hotel

We have just returned from 10 days at Bel Jou Hotel and absolutely loved it! The staff were so friendly and helpful, our room (on 4th floor) had wonderful views over the bay and Castries. We enjoyed getting shuttle bus down to the beach. Pools were super. Food was delicious and a good range. Enjoyed the evening entertainment (which was low key), especially the live singers. As it’s a small hotel (59 rooms I think) we got to know other guests too, and enjoyed chatting with them. We hired a car too to explore the island (hotel recommended Drive-u-Matic and we hired a Suzuki Jimney which was perfect for the roads). It’s our first visit to St Lucia, loved the island and we’ll be returning there and to Bel Jou. I booked the hotel as it was adult only, we like views, excellent reviews here and good price via BA holidays, and I’m so pleased I did!

Excellent resort for a relaxing vacation

Every traveller has different expectations from a resort. For us, the Bel Jou was a perfect choice. Instead of a high energy, party vibe, it had more of a ‘relax and chill’ atmosphere although there was entertainment for those who want more action in the evening. The upper pool and area also had activities during the day. It was a spotless resort, a huge plus for us. Staff were top notch and went above and beyond to ensure guests were satisfied. The food was varied and very good although there was some repetition. Certainly nothing to complain about in our opinion. The self serve bar at the lower pool was nice to have. There are lots of stairs so it would be challenging for those with mobility issues. We enjoyed our week there and we will go back.

    Just Ok….Wouldn’t Go Back

We had high hopes for this hotel based on all the good reviews. But after spending a week there I’m questioning whether some of those reviews are genuine!? Pros: - Yes, staff are beautiful, hard working people who don’t have their hand out for a tip like some islands. - Self-serve bar at the lower pool is a great idea - Loved the shower head and water pressure, always had hot water - We liked the water aerobics - Good entertainment every evening…they did a great job with that, much better then some resorts we’ve been to - Rooms were nice and clean - Views Cons: - Food, Big Disappointment- it’s geared towards locals. Definitely not towards Northern Americans - Way too many Locals there…hence why the food is geared towards the locals. They loved it, their plates were always filled to the brim. - The smell of the oil they use in cooking especially at Breakfast was awful. I couldn’t eat anything of the grill because of the oil, - Just so you know they do repeat menus during the week. We had the French and Italian Buffet twice. Hummingbird restaurant does not change their menu. - Music was not geared towards a relaxing stay, a lot of Rap or Reggae music, or what they call Soca music. Or you had to listen to Xmas music in November - Don’t go in November, too much clouds, wind and rain - Pools aren’t heated, they expect the sun to heat them, but they are still freezing - Street noise was very loud and annoying
