    Quiet and peaceful

We recently spent 7 days at the Blue Diamond. In a lot of ways, it was exactly what we were looking for. There were many positives for us. First and foremost, it is very quiet and peaceful. There is no loud music. Because it is a small resort, it did not feel crowded in all areas including the restaurants, pool area and beach. The staff are extremely friendly and accommodating. They aim to please regardless of whether you tip or not. They are quick to respond to requests. The area has a very jungle-feel, which we loved. The natural environment is very well maintained by staff. The beach is also very well maintained by staff. The loungers on the beach are very solid and good quality. The wi-fi signal is outstanding, and covers the entire area including the beach. The lobby area is lovely, quiet, and the check-in/check-out experience was quick and seamless. The bathrooms in the public areas are some of the cleanest and well maintained that I have ever experienced. We stayed in a Cenote Jr. Suite and we were very pleased with most aspects. It was extremely spacious with a huge bedroom, closet and bathroom. The cleaning was very good. It had a plunge pool which we did not use. It needs to be filled by staff on a daily basis when you want to use it, and they only fill it with cold water. It would be preferable for the guest to be able to control this, and to be able to use warm water instead, especially when the outdoor temp is cooler, like it was for us. For food, the only all-inclusive option is a-la-carte, which is different from most all-inclusives. The food itself was absolutely outstanding. It was the best I have had on a vacation. The service at the restaurants was outstanding as well. It felt like fine dining all the time. There were some aspects where there is room for improvement. Other reviews have identified various maintenance issues, and we noticed this as well. There were some service omissions on a daily basis such as not restocking clean towels, coffee pods and drinks in the mini fridge, but they were quick to remedy the situation when we called the front desk. On occasion during dinner time, the restaurants seemed understaffed, but despite being very busy, the staff were very pleasant and accommodating. Room service is an extra charge and not included, which we think is a miss for what is supposed to be a 5-star resort at this price-point. You need to travel relatively far to get to places from your room, depending on your location. This requires a lot of walking which we didn't mind, but would be an issue for anyone with mobility issues. They have bikes that can be used, as well as a shuttle to travel to various areas, and we used both. You need to climb stairs to get to certain areas such as the pool and one of the restaurants. There is a major construction project next door. It is only a few feet away from some of the areas closer to the beach. Our room was far away from this, so it didn't affect us, but it is something to keep in mind. There are also some safety issues around the lower level deck area where there are some bigger steps and drop offs, where there is a risk of tripping and falling, and we did see this happen from time to time. Some better signage and extension of railings is needed. For us, the positives greatly outweighed the negatives because of what we value in a vacation. The quiet and peacefulness was number one for us. All the staff were outstanding. In particular, Fernando, Giovanni and Ricardo really stood out. I have to mention Fidel, who is literally the best staff we have ever experienced on a vacation. He provided outstanding service with a smile on the beach and pool area. He was so pleasant, happy, accommodating and hilarious. He totally enhanced our vacation experience at the Blue Diamond. Thanks to him and all of the outstanding staff!!!! We would come again!

    We enjoyed every moment ✨

We had a really good experience. The service was great and the food was consistently good at all the restaurants. We didn’t have any real issues during our stay. There are a few small details where better maintenance could make a difference, but nothing that affected our experience at all. We were looking for quiet and peaceful hotel, and this place delivered exactly that. It feels like being in the middle of the jungle or forest. The yoga classes were great, big thanks to Emanuel. Also, a huge shout out to everyone: bartenders, waiters, bellboys, and the housekeeping team.

    Left feeling BLUE

First and last time at Blue Diamond. We stayed in the Palafitos Junior Suites. Room was large but very outdated and worn. Rooms were a long way from the reception/"check in" desk and depending on where your room is, a golf cart ride to/from is required. The resort is secluded by jungle brush, which helps to keep the walking path shaded while you are taking your walking adventure to the main pool/restaurant area. My room did not have clothes hangers in the closet or a hair dryer, took 2 days before I finally had them delivered. Food was ok. Service was slow during most times. Best place for drink service was at the pool bar and sitting at the bar itself. I overheard other people at the pool who stated they have visited the hotel multiple times and were shocked with how run-down the place has become since the last major hurricane...psssst, they said they were not coming back! We traveled with another couple and it was their first time to Playa del Carmen, we were all hoping for a nice adults only experience and left very disappointed. Not worth the money that was spent. Be sure to read all of the reviews before booking.
