Not the same.
This is my fourth time staying here. It's always been so lovely until now. The resort is still as beautiful, the staff is still so nice, but new management is very apparent. And not in a good way. All the little things that made it so easy are gone. The kitchens, which are a huge reason for choosing this place, have been stripped down the the bare minimum. It's so difficult to even open a package. No scissors, no tea towels, no blender, and just five utensils (including 2 sharp knives). There no guest book, just a QR code. And the TVs have been out since I got here. I knew last week before I came that the restaurant, spa, and gym were closed. The construction has been pretty loud. And the Hobie Cat sail boat isn't working. It used to feel like home the minute you walked in, but it just feels more sterile now. Don't get me wrong, the beach is still lovely, the pools are still awesome, the units are still nice. It's just different and honestly, less special. I'm not sure I'll be back now. And I surely won't recommend it like I used to. Next week I'll be up island at a VRBO. It may be my new place here. It makes me sad.

Stay Elsewhere
Our Stay was just okay. The hotel is very disorganized. We booked directly on their website about 7 weeks before arrival. The rates were not cheap. When we arrived at the hotel, we found out that 1 out of 2 Restaurants plus the Spa and Gym were supposedly closed for renovations (we didn't see any sign of construction). There was no notice on the website of these planned closures! We didn't receive the free bottle of wine or the $20 coupon off spa services (supposedly they would now come to our rooms); we complained about the missing wine which was provided, but not a good one. The spa coupon never appeared. The one Restaurant on premise was just okay. However, the prices were outrageous, and the service was so slow we could have killed the food, gone to the kitchen and cooked and cleaned pots and eaten sooner. This Hotel was formerly a condo. Some units have a full-sized refrigerator and freezer, others have a split Mini fridge/freezer. The units have a mini kitchen, but there is no consistency with utensils or dishes (2 small forks, 2 large forks, 3 tea spoons, and 4 plates and bowls). There is no elevator, so expect to hike through the property and up a lot of steps. They have units on 4 floors. Also, when it rains the lobby gets flooded as there is an open atrium in the middle and you'll walk through slippery floors with towels on them to sop up the water. After returning to the hotel around 5pm to take a shower before dinner, I had no hot Water! A travel partner in another room, had clogged drains in her shower and bathroom sink. She complained 3 times to get this fixed (the maintenance guys were sent to the wrong room after we complained the 2nd time). Don't book the hotel's transportation to/from the airport about a 20 min ride. You'll get a better rate with a Taxi. The hotel charges in USD, not BBD which is only worth 50% of the US dollar. The hotel will exchange money at 1.95 of it's worth. The Pros are limited. The maid service was excellent, and the pool bartender Jose was awesome! I suggest staying on the other side of the island at nationally known hotels where the neighborhood is walkable and there are small shops, and where the beach surf isn't so rough. We did enjoy the Harbour Lights Dinner Show. The entertainment was good and so was the food. They also pick you up from your hotel and take you to the event.

Lovely hotel and a good base to explore from
Bougainvillea is a great hotel in a very good location for exploring the island. The hotel is close to Oistins and St Lawrence Gap and all the great locations on the road to Bridgetown. Relaxation is the overwhelming feeling from the minute you step into the hotel, the decor, building, gardens, pool area and beach. The staff maintain this with their “can do” attitude and huge smiles. Everywhere was clean and well maintained and constantly tended to. We were pleasantly surprised at our room upgrade, more an apartment than a room spreading the depth of the building. We were on the top floor, 4th, no lift and it was a challenge at first but good for us! The view was incredible over the gardens, pool and beach with a balcony. The beach was quite and we could walk quite far alone the coast, the issue with seaweed is still apparent, but it didn’t spoil our enjoyment, and some beaches further up the west coast had no seaweed. Travelling from the U.K. is expensive and the general prices in Barbados are quite high, if you expect that, there is no issue and we were happy with cost of the hotel. There was some noise a few nights from nearby resorts but it didn’t bother us, in general the hotel was quiet. We would definitely return to Bougainvillea.
