Sep 26, 2026Excellent Service & Friendly Staff
The staff was amazing! The front-desk employees greeted us with bright smiles and were very friendly. Alan, the bell person, was also incredibly helpful. My room was clean and offered a wonderful view of Coconut Island. The food at the restaurant was amazing! I love the name “Bull Shed Restaurant”—it gave me a good laugh. When I checked out, Milton was warm and courteous. He truly embodied the Aloha spirit. I will definitely be returning!

This hotel is in an ideal location to explore all the falls, volcanos and hiking the big island has to offer. Unfortunately, it is also located in an area prone to many unhoused and addicts. Not a walkable location. The hotel is dated, as mentioned, but that doesn't matter to me much; the soundproofing at least on the 7th floor was superb, even between rooms. It was not the cleanest, but we overlooked it. But the part which is absolutely unforgivable is the awful beds! Two beds and they both were years past their replacement dates. Worst sleep in memory. Going on holiday shouldn't be painful. Do not recommend.

BEAUTIFUL LOCATION !
GORGEOUS ROOMS AND LOCATION ! Bathrooms need an update including grab bars around tub…we had a gorgeous view. The grounds were paradise, within Lilikuokalani Gardens! and Their restaurant steakhouse was awesome.

Great Hawaiian Hotel
We loved this hotel! It was a great location and the best we’ve stayed in Hilo by far. It’s difficult to find even 5-star hotels in Hawaii that don’t have a bug problem (cockroaches specifically), so we were so so happy to stay here for over a week and not find any unwanted bugs in the room nor any of the facilities! The room was cleaned consistently by house keeping while we were there and was in good condition. Air conditioning worked well and there was no mold/mildew smell you often find in the tropics. The gym was quite nice and had many machines available. We also loved the convenience store located on property where we got our breakfast and snacks daily. Parking was free and sometimes busy due to the restaurant’s busyness, but easy overall.
