Experience at Catalonia Montego Bay Resort during Hurricane Melissa
Our experience at Catalonia, Montego Bay during Hurricane Melissa I just wanted to express our gratitude and thanks to the amazing team at Catalonia Montego Bay for their bravery and compassion during and after Hurricane Melissa. Living in Trinidad, we never experienced a hurricane before, so it was very traumatic for us. The staff made us feel so comfortable and safe, continued to serve meals and whatever we needed. We had water, lights and wifi most of the time. They worked tirelessly to keep our spirits up by still trying to entertain us. On the Sunday after, we had an awesome service. Everyone was just singing and praising almighty God for sparing our lives. Even when we unable to get a flight out of Jamaica, the manager and her team continued to encourage us. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts Catalonia, for your courage, kind hospitality and commitment. So proud of our Caricom neighbors. I would stay at Catalonia anytime I visit Jamaica in the future. Heartfelt appreciation ️Gracelyn and husband. October 23rd to November 3rd 2025.

Catalonia Staff and Resort are amazing.
My family and friends stayed at the Catalonia in October. When we got there at 11:30 am, the room wasn't ready, which is understandable because check-in is at 3 pm. We were able to eat and relax on the property. By 2 pm, our room was ready, and it was just what I wanted. A view of the almost everything. The hotel is very clean. I was there when Hurricane Melissa Hit, and it was scary. I must say the Hotel staff was amazing. They brought good food to our room after the Hurricane when we couldn't come out. When we were able to come out of the room, the lobby was clean, and they were ready to feed us lunch. We ate well every day. I was there for 6 days after the hurricane, and I must say I am glad I was at the Catalonia. They made us comfortable, considering there was no hot water or A/C. There was entertainment in the lobby, and we played games. Big shout- out to Romaine from entertainment who played Connect Four with me, and I loved it. Big shout-out to Latoya in the dining area; her smile made my day every day. The whole staff was kind and courteous. Now I must give the biggest Shout Out to Ms. Winsome Hooper, the GM. She made sure her staff was well-equipped to handle everything with a smile. The facility was cleaned up so fast after the hurricane. I would wake up in the morning and say they must have been working all night, I was amazed at the progress the staff had made. I could go on and on. I would give this resort and staff 10 stars if I could.......Microwaves in the rooms would be a nice touch.

A honest review that has no significance now
We traveled to Catalonia for a quick week away from Canada. Nothing was on the radar as far as tropical storms or hurricanes. The resort was friendly and the staff attentive (more to that later) check in was quick and we requested a ground floor room instead of an upper floor room which they did and although we were there before 3pm our room was made ready for us to start our vacation straight away. The resort is showing it's age but is (was) still in fairly good order. The food is the best I've ever had at an all inclusive and I found i never ate the same meal twice. Entertainment was nightly whilst dinner was on and they had some great acts booked. Cats (more later) yes there are cats there probably around 20 cats there and are friendly and although you are not supposed to feed them people did. I only saw 2 cats in the actual dining area whilst food was being eaten most chose to stay on the outside . Swimming.. if you like to swim in the ocean like I do this is not the place for you. The water is so shallow and even around the back of the island it's not very deep (you can wade around it) and if you want to swim beyond the marked area you have to pay a lifeguard to take you out. The pool also is really a child's pool with a maximum depth of 3ft. Now ... when the realization that a Hurricane was on its way the General manager (what an amazing woman) set the Emergency preparedness team in motion. We had regular updates pushed under the door to make sure we were fully informed of the growing situation. Even though it looked like it was going to be the worst Hurricane ever recorded on earth we were reassured by the staffs calmness. It looked luke Montego Bay would be bypassed but preparation continued with ocean facing rooms being boarded up along with other certain areas likely to be hit. As Melissa made it's way along the coast further South it became apparent that Montego Bay was likely to become the ground zero. The buffet was shut down and moved upstairs into the ballroom and we had updates from the management. We were to be confined to our rooms that evening at 8pm with breakfast dinner and lunch being delivered in a bag to our rooms. Melissa hit !!! The hotel received major major damage with parts of the upper floors of block one completely disappearing and guests trapped in their washrooms. The staff braved their own safety to enter rooms to remove trapped guests and rehome them. After the hurricane the devastation was realized .. how could the hotel still function and look after it's guests ? The buffet was destroyed along with the upstairs areas so they set up dining in the lobby after removing the debris from the Hurricane. They continued to feed us 3 hot meals a day in a temporary location that did not drop any of the quality before the Hurricane. The staff that had remained went into overdrive along with those that put their guests before their families and returned to work. Power , internet, TV and Air conditioning was down and they struggled to get the emergency power generator on line because a tree had fallen on it... eventually power came back on line and they worked hard to get internet back up so people could call home. In short for the disaster we encountered I can not praise the staff highly enough and their professionalism undoubtedly was the main reason we suffered no injuries and no loss of life at Catalonia... staff were exhausted but still put their guests above their own family. When rebuilt I would highly recommend this hotel purely on the staffs dedication to their guests. It's going to be a long road back for Catalonia but I would now imagine the whole resort will be rebuilt in one go now. Thank you to all the staff .. you really did save all our lives.. I pray your families got through it safely and you can recover as quickly as possible... you were all Heros. On a lighter note of cats .. I hate cats but ended up having to rescue a poor kitty being battered to death outside .. he spent 30 hours with us sharing our food and water and was released back out to his buddies again when the Hurricane had passed.

Buffet Customer Service
We had an amazing experience at the resort, and I want to especially recognize Delisa at the buffet for her exceptional customer service. She made us feel right at home every morning—her bright smile and warm personality truly set the tone for our day. We even found ourselves requesting to be seated in her area every chance we got! Delisa went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. It’s employees like her who make the resort experience extra special. I would return not only for the beautiful resort itself, but also knowing that Delisa will be there to take such great care of us again.
