Catalonia Playa Maroma
Catalonia Playa Maroma - The good, the bad and the ugly. Let's start with... The Good - Friendly, helpful staff! Everyone is super friendly and really goes out of their way to help you enjoy your stay (except for the woman at reception at the Mexican restaurant, she won't give you a table even if the restaurant is empty. Ask for her manager, and he will). Ok, a big list of Kudos. First, Leticia, our maid. She created special animals with the towels and left fresh flowers in our room everyday! See the photos below. She was wonderful. Consuelo at guest services near the pool really helped us out a whole bunch of times and is amazing. On our first night, when we arrived to our suite (the suites are double the size of an ordinary room and well worth the extra $), the air conditioning wasn't working. My wife called Consuelo and even though it was Saturday night at 10:30 pm, Consuelo sent up the service man Gustavo, and within fifteen minutes, he had it fixed! Next, Juan at luggage services is super helpful and friendly. That also goes for all the staff at BLoved restaurant (the special ocean front restaurant for "Privileged" guests. Get the Privileges' package! It is so worth it. The special area with a waiter on the beach is great, but mostly get it for the restaurant). The BLoved restaurant has the best food by far (and we tried every restaurant). Jorge (George), the chef, has trained and cooked in Korea and Japan for years and really has his menu glowing at BLoved. The food was always delicious! Quirino is an awesome waiter and very kind. Great guy! Janeth at BLoved is also so kind and friendly and helpful. Diana at the Italian restaurant is super great and so are all the entertainment staff. The shows (9:30 every night) are actually really good! They have their own entertainment staff, musicians and choreographer and create their own spectacles. The Mexican night and Boogie show were really fun and entertaining. Oh, and lastly, the beach and the Carribean sea! Fabulous! Playa Maroma is truly one of the best beaches in Mexico. The Bad - All the restaurants except for BLoved and the Spanish restaurant. Well, the Mexican restaurant wasn't that bad, just ok, but for a resort that caters to Italians (tons of Italian tourists there), the Italian restaurant food is horrible. The chicken is dry, the pasta is soggy and the desserts are horrible. Go to the Spanish restaurant for dessert. The beef was terrible at the Grill. The filet mignon was chewy as was the strip loin. And at the Japanese restaurant, the sushi is some of the worst I have ever had. Go to BLoved for the tiradito and raw salmon instead. Also bad is the walk from the Lobby/Buffet to the beach... It is super long! We only ate once at the buffet, just to try it for lunch, and it was nothing special. So, get the Privileges package so you can eat at the ocean everyday, and try to get a room in Unit #6, closest to the beach. We did, and it was great not having to walk the half a km from Unit #1 to the beach everyday. The Ugly - the resort prides itself on being very environmental and natural, but except for the glass bottles of water in your room, and reusable plastic cups, it really isn't. All organic and inorganic materials, though separate in the garbage bins, just gets dumped together. And the nature - it is very beautiful and you will see a monkey running around. But the resort should be renamed Coatilonia! Coati are basically Mexican raccoons, and they own the resort! They are everywhere. Be very careful eating an afternoon snack at the food trucks near the pool The Coati wait on the awnings and in the trees, and once you have your food, will jump onto you to make you drop your food to their awaiting Coati friends on the ground. My wife got pretty badly scratched by one doing just that! Her arm needed polysporin and cream for days from the five big scratches she had from a Coati that jumped on her. They also love to hang out around the Aromes coffee bar (which has great lattes and cappuccinos btw). So, that's it. Would we go back? Probably not. But, is it bad? No, it is actually not that bad at all. But, get the Privileges package. I don't think the resort would have been worth it, without it.

Super Stay At Playa Maroma
We just returned from a 10 night stay and honestly in most instances the hotel exceeded our expectations! As everyone says the beach is one of the most beautiful we have ever been to !The options and quality of the food for the most part was excellent (our least favourite the Mexican restaurant)Having taken the privileged package allowed us access to beloved restaurant and the staff there for breakfast and lunch were absolutely amazing(Quirino,Alejandra,Bernabe,Janeth) Also Alejandro the waiter at the pizzeria and pool was always greeted us with a warm smile and super service! Our room was great, the towels and beach and pool chairs were always plentiful! Only one serious negative to the place is the Coatis! They are everywhere and really annoying!Every few days the hotel passes with a dog and for a day or so they seem to go into hiding!(They should have dogs around all the time!!)They will jump on you when you are eating or carrying food!🤬 Apart from that all the other staff are super friendly and the entertainment group do a super job day and night!

Triple Threat Resort- location, services/amenities, people
Catalonia Playa Maroma has become our go to vacation spot. While we have stayed elsewhere- since having found the Catalonia brand- we have no reason to stay anywhere else- it is simply paradise. The layout is beautiful- buildings/rooms are nestled in the jungle with pathways that open to the restaurants/beach area. Breathtaking! If there was one thing that keeps us going back to Catalonia Playa Maroma- it’s the people! Truly, the best in the industry. Friendly, helpful and patient. From the concierge team to front desk staff to housekeeping to groundskeepers to the entertainment team (wow) to restaurant staff- they all work so very hard to ensure you have a memorable vacation. A special mucho gracias shout out to the BeLoved Team - Bernabe, Alejandra, Quirino, Janeth and Gabriela and to the entertainment team who seemed to work 24/7 - amazing talent and energy. We can’t wait to return!

Catalonia in November
The staff is amazing here. They are so welcoming and make you feel at home right away and through out your stay. The Animacion team does a great job keeping you entertained throughout the day. Or if just laying low is more your style the beach is perfect. Plenty of chairs available and the water is gorgeous
