    Proactive or reactive management

My experience describing my recent 10 day vacation at the Catalonia Royale, adults only section, the 14th resort I have stayed at in the amazing Dominican Republic 🇩🇴. This review will be short and to the point, solely expressed for the management of the resort. For those who are reading the review, I will save my views and opinions, and just agree wholeheartedly with all the other positive reviews and comments. The place is wonderful, the workers even better. A huge salute to Enor, Jeffries, Dario, and the best, Yosefi?. For Management! Suggestions on how to elevate the client experience, with very little effort. 1. Likely one of the most important facet of anyone's experience, getting access to your room. Most people have spent a very long day getting there. When you finally get to the resort, the last thing you need or want are problems with the room. Myself, I'm looking forward to settling in, to grab a cold cerveza from your somewhat stocked bar, change and go explore...but no, the fridge is stocked but it's not even working. Everything is piss warm. Other guests told me they had stuff in their rooms not working, such as air conditioning, plumbing, TV, coffee pots! Why do guests have to experience rooms not ready for occupancy? Easy fix recommendation...every room must be thoroughly inspected to ensure everything is working, before being allocated. Management policy must evolve to proactive from reactive. 2. The chairs immediately outside the lobby. Management should have their meetings in those chairs, every day, for 10 days. You should figure it out. Might as well be sitting on the floor on a pillow. Everyone struggled to get up and out of those completely inadequate ultra low chairs. Most adults are somewhat physically challenged, especially when the chairs are absolutely incompatible for most. 3. Adults only! Good luck with that one. It happens when families with children wander on the Adults only section. What bothered me is that staff predominately chose to ignore it. One example...chairs and palapas are difficult to get on the beach, yet one prized palapa is occupied by two parents and their two toddlers. Why did I have to be the bad guy to report it? There are many who paid a lot of money to be in an Adults only section. It needs enforcement at the staff level, not the guests level. 4. CasiNo Be serious or make better use of the space? Great people 👏 Jayson and Iluminada. The slot machines...they are so old, analog, and half don't work. There's no one left alive that can fix them. Go modern! Ever hear of digital? The majority of the casinos space is dead slots. Those dust collectors and needless space occupiers that aren't even powered on, have to go...but I wouldn't bet on it. At the end of the day, would I come back to this resort! That's a good question.

    Loved it !

Stayed at the adult side Catalonia Royal from February 7th - 15th. We are a group of 4 friends . We arrived Saturday afternoon, check in was quick and easy, staff were kind and patient . Had welcome drinks while we got checked in . Our rooms were ready by 3:00, we were taken by a golf cart to our room. Don’t be tricked by the guys in white shirts saying they are your concierge and can get your restaurants booked and free massages, they are time share pushers. Our room was nice, older decor but fine for what we need. There was only a king bed for friends to share . Beds were comfortable and rooms nice and cool. The shower was tricky to not boil or freeze yourself ! We spent a bit of time by the pool on our first day, it was very quiet , no music , no activity and no bar service unless you went to the bar yourself, this was worrisome. Thankfully the rest of the week was better , music, games, great service by the pool bar staff , Ashley and the “ drinky drinky” guy. Animation time (Hansel & Pillar) we lots of fun . Hansel works hard to make sure everyone has a good time. Lots of pool, activities, spin class, trampoline exercise and yoga all in the pool as well as bingo and other pool games . The restaurant beside the pool bar is delicious, Mac and cheese is incredible and mozzarella sticks are fabulous. Restaurant by the beach has a great sandwich , great fish and a delicious cream puff. Near the beach is a great little snack shop for burgers , hot dogs and nachos. Main restaurant is buffet for breakfast only then it has menus for lunch and is an ale carte for supper . It had a delicious crime brûlée! There are lots of cats and dogs around the resort, we often snuck our left overs from our meals to feed them . (Take ziplock bags) our favourite cat we named Stubby, he lives by building 42 is white and orange with a stubby tail. There are a few kittens there too. The beach had seaweed the beginning of our vacation but got better, there are a ton of chairs by the beach, the pool you’ll have to get up early to save a seat. The ocean has a very long sandbar that you can walk out really far and see fish , you can snorkel or just see the fish while walking . The beach is great for long walks . We went to the family side a couple times , that’s where the shows are and more restaurants and shops. There are some really fun nights by the pool on the adult side .

    Wonderful visit to the spa!

We had wonderful experiences at the spa! Had both foot and full body massages that were very relaxing! Yessica was wonderful at what she does. We also enjoyed using the outdoor area. Definitely recommend especially as it is easy to book online.

    Overall great stay

This was our 15th time in Punta Cana but first time in this area, so I knew ahead of time the ocean wouldn't be like Bavaro. Some days the water was a little murky others it was beautiful colors. There was seaweed but is was more like long grasses than the seaweed we are used to. But was cleaned up every day and the beach itself was so pretty with the soft sand and all the palms, I loved it. I had requested a certain area in the privileged building by emailing ahead of time and was given the perfect location. These rooms are not renovated but very spacious and very clean, king bed was very comfortable. Housekeeping did a fantastic job everyday. Most of the staff were very friendly, and excellent at their jobs, but a few of them that worked at the lobby bar need to go. It's a small resort but easy to get around, my husband has mobility issues and they were very accommodating with golf cart rides to the family side for meals or visiting the casino. The family side was crazy busy, was like walking into a different world. There are 2 pools, the one by the beach was quiet and on the days when it was too windy to do the beach, the staff brought more lounge chairs for the guests trying to find a spot...I requested this at the other pool but it never happened. It was impossible to get a lounger at that pool as ppl reserved chairs there even the evening before which is ridiculous and management should be addressing this problem. It was the same issue at the beach. I was very disappointed there were no palapas or umbrellas on the privileged or exclusive sections of the beach so if we wanted one my husband had to go out at 7 am, this really needs to be fixed as not many ppl used these beautiful areas because of this, and as privileged we never sat in that section our whole 10 days. Sun is strong and you need shade, also more umbrellas around the pools is also needed. The grounds are very beautiful and clean and they were always working on improving different areas. Food for me was fantastic, I didn't ever have a bad meal. My husband wasn't as satisfied but that was because of the choices he made. It's subjective right, and we ate at a different restaurant every night between Royal and Family side. It's not a 5 star resort, I'm used to calling room service and have a bottle of wine delivered to my room or my concierge delivering them. I managed to get what I wanted just had to go about it in a different way hahahaha. The bartenders at Bloved Bar and the Lobby pool bar were great and a shout out to Jefferies, Dario, and Enor they were super friendly and worked very hard to make everyone happy. A mention regarding your concierge...this person is not your concierge they are just trying to sell you a membership, so if not interested don't go for the free massage etc. We had a very nice vacation and I would recommend this resort to anyone, and yes we would possibly return.

Fantastic Experience at Catalonia Royal Bavaro

Wow, we just returned from the Catalonia Royal Bavaro and we can truly say we had a fabulous time. We stayed in the Private Romance Deluxe Junior Suite and it was huge and upon arrival had champagne and various fruits waiting in the room. The room was close to the beach, quiet pool, Tao a-la-carte, BLoved a-la-carte with breakfast and lunch available. We had plenty of hot water, many daily supplied towels, slippers and white housecoats. Walk-in shower with a huge tub/spa in the walk-in frosted glassed shower. Also with the room we booked we received a 4 course dinner on the beach and a 1/2 spa treatment. This resort had the most accommodating staff we have ever experienced and we have been coming to all-inclusives since 1999. From the front desk and lobby staff (always holding the door open for you), the shuttle drivers, restaurant staff and cleaning staff, they were friendly and couldn't do enough for you. There is a few names I would like to mention. First the drivers Victor (The Professional Driver), Ceasar and Rudolph. The Executive Members Club's Carlos. The Lobby Piano Bar's Elizabeth. Also all the staff at Bloved but the names we know and helped so much were Alexis, Altagracia, William, Ezekiel, Biscauri, Dario, Jaycees and Dominga. The grounds were fantastic and the layout was so well planned. Most of the staff spoke English, some with a little difficulty but did not encounter anyone who did not speak a little English. We tried all the a-la-cartes and the buffets (especially the HUGE Gran Caribe buffet on the family side) and enjoyed them all. The family side of the resort was massive but staying at the all-adult side was quieter and relaxing and much smaller which suited us just fine. The quiet pool was next to the beach and BLoved restaurant. There was plenty of lounges and umbrellas available but again it was a playing game for towels on the lounges very early just like most resorts. The lively noisey pool was up near the lobby. The only negative I could think of was there was smoking through-out the resort but not in the restaurants instead of designated areas. Management has done a great job in keeping the resort clean and in great shape and employing such great people. We do plan on returning next winter because we were so satisfied with the resort and all of the employees who were friendly, helpful and seemed that they loved their jobs.
