    Terrible experience

    I have been traveling for more than 20 years , have been coming to this resort 4 times!! and never experienced such disappointment and disrespect to the client! There are a lot of other people coming from other countries, if you do not speak Spanish, they treat you like you nothing. I have noticed that before but that was not that noticeable. It’s a shame, as this country living of tourism! This time, I could not believe that beach towels will be huge issue to this resort. The give one towel per person and no more, NEVER in my traveling experience came across such thing, terrible. Particularly, I asked for extra two towels and “towel person “ said “NO!” Exchange only and when I was not happy and asked for the manager he told me to go to the receptionist in the lobby! I , honestly, couldn’t believe this kind of rude response! I am on vacation, trying to relax , but not fight for towels, unbelievable!

    The rooms are lovely and spacious. We had a great cleaner in Reyna who looked after us on a daily basis. Room was always spotless with little towel art and flowers left for us. Our room overlooked a lovely pool which was quiet and peaceful.

    Everyone was attentive and went out of their way to make our stay wonderful. Definety recommend and hopefully return soon. Amazing beach.

    Excellent hotel but a few small improvements needed

    This is a review of our stay at Catalonia Royal La Romana in November 2025, which includes the many great things about it but also notes some improvements that could be made. Firstly, the hotel is in very good condition and well looked after. This includes the rooms, restaurants and bars. Plus the grounds and gardens get a special mention because they're particularly beautiful. The location is perfect and the beach is exactly what you'd hope for - white sand, turquoise waters, and in this location, no seaweed! I'd recommend watching the sunset from the beach too. The colours are mesmerising. The staff are very friendly and helpful. In particular, the room cleaners do a wonderful job, and went out of their way to help us when we were unwell for a few days (which was early on and nothing to do with the hotel - it was more likely a bug picked up on the plane). The quality of the food is ok but you'd expect more considering the price to stay here. They're trying a bit too hard to be upmarket with some of the à la carte options and it doesn't always work. The buffet breakfast and the pool snack bar are excellent though. The language barrier can be hard, which might seem a bit unfair as it's their country, but they do work in the tourism industry after all. This was particularly an issue when ordering food. At the crepe restaurant, I ordered 1 x red fruits crepe and 1 x chocolate & caramel crepe (= 2 crepes) and even pointed to the items on the menu. I received 3 crepes, only one of which was correct (the main ingredient in my red fruits crepe turned out to be banana). The Rodeo Steak House also got food orders mixed up and seemed frustrated when it was pointed out. A few last points. Some waiting staff take food and drink items away before they're finished, and the phone to request the golf cart is sometimes left off the hook, so when you call from the beach for a lift back it's engaged... for a long time. Overall it's been a lovely relaxing holiday in an amazing location, but for a 5 star resort there are those few niggles that ought to be addressed.
