    Great attention to detail

We spent 5 nights at the Catalonia Royal Tulum. First off, one should be aware that it’s an hour and fifteen minutes from Cancún airport, with no traffic. So prepare for an extra leg of the journey if you are arriving from there. Attention to detail is highly important to us and they definitely did a good job here. Cleanliness, good food, friendly staff, and fun entertainment. Particularly the event staff Diego, Eddie and Paulina went the extra mile to make us feel welcome and appreciated. As a non drinker in an all inclusive resort, I never got bored. I will be coming back.

    Will return

We had an amazing week. The staff were always friendly and helpful, and the grounds were immaculately maintained. The pool was warm and clean, and the beach was the true highlight for us. The food was excellent — we tried every restaurant, buffet, and room service option and weren’t disappointed once. Starting the day with a smoothie from the beach bar was a great touch, and every drink we had was enjoyable. I would highly recommend this resort for singles, couples, or small groups, and the upgrade to Privilege is well worth it.

Great location, adults only hotel with nice pool

We had a lovely time at the Royal Tulum Hotel. It was our first time in Cancun and we weren’t disappointed. This resort is nice and small, and adults only which is great. We upgraded to the Privileged level which was a bonus as it gave us an additional option for bar and restaurant in the evening. Our room was huge, kept beautifully cleaned and serviced throughout the holiday. The pool area is nice - loads of sun beds with parasols, a swim up bar and service at your sunbed. The beach is really beautiful - lots of sunbeds and the sand is a beautifully white and clean. You can walk to the left and right of the resort which is a lovely thing to do after breakfast. The Tequila pool bar is good during the day and a great place to enjoy a coffee or something stronger. The entertainment team with Diageo et al work really hard offering a variety of things to do during the day. The evening shows are fun (Latin night, Michael Jackson tribute) and the Mexican night was unexpectedly good with a little fayre and live performance. The only disappointment was the food - breakfast and lunch buffet are fine with a decent selection. The restaurants are ok - you have to pre book for each night via the hotel’s website. The Italian was really disappointing (awful pizza and flavourless meatballs) but the steakhouse was ok. We ate in the Bloved restaurant a couple of times because we could just walk up without a reservation. The real plus for this hotel is the staff helpfulness and friendliness - everyone is really lovely and look after you well. We even received a little gift as we were celebrating our anniversary. It would be really good if an evening buffet was offered in addition to the à la carte restaurants - additionally flexibility and choice.

    Highly recommend!

We stayed for 2-weeks arriving 14th Nov. The weather was excellent, beach clean and clear of seaweed and the sea water warm and turquoise. We found every aspect of the trip excellent, from the service delivered by staff to the food and drinks. Staff work exceptionally hard to keep guests happy and a special shoutout must go to Quetzabel and Angeles in the buffet restaurant at breakfast. They were quick to learn our names and find out more about us and what we liked and were on hand daily to assist us with anything we needed (with a smile!). The gym was great and open 24-hours, basic but good enough to get the job done with dumbbells up to 25kg. We found all of the alacarte restaurants served high quality food and it was great that you are free to order as much as like which allowed us to try out a few different starters/mains/desserts. We were surprised at the quality of the steak in Steakville, the tenderloin was particularly good, as was the burger. We used the local collectivos to get to and from Tulum and PDC. Use these - it's around 50 pesos PP and you can flag them down outside the hotel on the main highway. All in all a great trip and would have no issues recommending to anyone considering visiting. Thank you!

    Relaxing & Charming

We went to Catalonia Royal Tulum in November for 10 days of pure relaxation. The jungle setting was exactly what we were looking for! This hotel has a lot charm and character and the personnel is beyond welcoming. The hotel is dated though and could use an upgrade in many locations. I had previously stayed at Catalonia Royal La Romana so I knew what to expect in terms of how the hotel operates, here's a rundown of things: ROOMS: We were in building 3 (Premium section). The room was big and spacious, but dated. It was clean but the bathroom was very dated. We had a balcony overlooking the pathway but we only used it once. There is no sun as the canopy from the trees covers the whole area so hard to have clothing dry out there. Mini fridge stocked daily with beer, water & soft drinks as well as a few snacks. Safe in the closet along with an iron & board, a few shelves for clothes. Strangely enough no dressers with any drawers for clothes so very limited space to put your clothing anywhere. Bathrobes & slippers were provided but the slippers did look like they had been previously used. Water pressure was good and the shower was nice and big. Double sinks with plenty of counter space, a good hair dryer too. They provide water bottles daily. The room was a bit dark, not all the lighting was working and they only had table lamps, no ceiling light. FOOD: Breakfast & lunch is buffet every day unless you pay for the access to the BLoved which we did not. Suppers are all a la carte except one night a week where they have the Mexican buffet night. Easy to reserve on the app, we did so for a few days in advance with no issues, times available vary on when you book. We found there was a good variety of food, some of it was very good and some of it...was nothing spectacular. No one starved and no one got sick which is the main thing. We just found a lot of inconsistency especially when ordering the same dish again on a different day and having it taste or be different. Drinks were good but again very inconsistent depending which bar you go to. The lobby bar was very good but we only went there at night time. Coffee, you need to order at the bars and not the buffet, it is not good at all at the buffet! POOL: The pool area was nice, a lot of chairs with palapas, a swim up bar big enough it doesn't feel crowded. Didn't spend much time there as we were on the beach every day. BEACH: The beach is awesome! Nice white powdery sand, no rocks, no sea grass in the water and we had no sargassum when we went. The sea was agitated for most the time we were there unfortunately there was a depression in the area at the time we stayed so sadly we didn't get to experience the millpond water nor any spectacular sunrises as there was a lot of cloud cover. It's a nice beach to walk on and very quiet as soon as leave the hotel premises. There were always enough chairs when we went down around 7h45-8h00am. There are no palapas on the beach, only palm trees but if you pick the right spot you can have shade all day if shade is what you are looking for. It feels a bit like sardines as the chairs are all very very close to one another. The hot tub was very nice with an awesome view of the ocean. Beach service was very good, it was nice to have this perk. CONS: We found the staff trying to sell you the timeshare deal to be very persistent and to a point annoying. Every single day, for 10 days we were asked repeatedly even though we kept saying no thank you. The inconsistency in food & drinks was unfortunate for a hotel that advertises itself as a 5 star resort. Smoking on the beach can be an issue as not all guests respect the designated areas. Overall the hotel hits the spot on many levels but there is always room for improvement. We found the staff to be extremely nice and welcoming, they couldn't do enough for you. The setting is truly amazing, lots of walking but that's OK. Lots of coatis on the pathway which was nice to see. Would I rate this property 5 stars? No, but it's a solid 4 stars. You get what you pay for and we researched before going so we knew what to expect. What the hotel may have lacked in updated amenities (mainly the rooms & lobby) they made up in spades with their awesome staff. We had a great relaxing vacation on a fantastic beach with good margaritas, that beats the daily grind any day!
