  PRICED OUT...MOVING ON FROM DESIRE

  We have been to Desire Riviera Maya…both before and after the EDEN renovations. We have been priced out from returning in the future. We had a Heavenly Garden Room in May of 2024 and paid $615 per night. The same room was $922 per night today! It really does seem that they only care about members...it is nearly impossible for non-members to get a spot by the pool or a dinner reservation (restaurants have been closed on certain nights without notice). My question…is why are we paying so much more for so much less? It isn’t like the demand is there (often well below 50% capacity). We had no issues getting a spot at the pool after 10am last time nor did we have any issues getting a dinner reservation at a normal time. The vibe / crowd is so much different now. There is no value any longer…and they will try to upsell you on EVERYTHING (which has always been the case, even in our past trips. They don’t take NO for an answer very easily). Unfortunately...we are about to start planning our May 2027 trip and will be trying somewhere new...looking into Hedo.

  Stick to basics for a great all inclusive vacay!

  Lovely grounds, adequate beach in older half of resort, two pool choice (busy/louder in Eden side, smaller, quieter, and prettier in older side), very nice staff. Great vibes & sensual atmosphere. Lovely disco (though monotonous music) great for people watching. If you stick to basics of the all-inclusive format the food is quite good and the mixed drinks better than most island all-inclusives. But as soon as you indulge in non-inclusive choices be ready for very high mark ups… wine and massage prices are ASTRONOMICAL. Expect $500 and up for a bottle of wine. Have mixed drinks with meals and dodge the massages. Also become very familiar with the currency exchange rate or your all-inclusive vacation may have a BIG surprise ending at check out.

  Scam from Alex

  We stayed at the Desire Hotel in July and Alex, the hotel butler, contacted me before our stay and offered us spa services, romantic dinner, and a room upgrade for our anniversary. We decided to book a service in advance; Alex sent me a payment link, and I made the payment using my brand-new credit card. Then, I noticed an $840 charge on my card. I immediately called the number on the back of the card to report it as a fraudulent charge; the bank agreed and issued me a new card. According to the records, no online purchase for that $840 amount was ever actually made. The only charges on that card came from Alex's payment link. I'm afraid he Is the only one who has this credid card info and he use it . Could someone please help us? He already has my phone number and all my personal information, and we are very upset about the situation.

  The Sexy Vibe Is Gone When a Basic Room Costs Over C$1,000 a Night

  After nearly 20 years of vacationing at Desire Resorts, this is the first year we have chosen not to pre book for the following year. The reason is simple. Pricing has become completely unreasonable. Our 2027 member rate for a basic room at Desire Pearl is approximately US 705 per night, about C$1000, while a basic room at Desire Riviera Maya is approximately US 820 per night, about C$1156. That is room only, before airfare, airport transfers, travel insurance, tips, excursions, and other vacation costs. At these rates, the fun, carefree, sexy atmosphere that once defined Desire is gone. It is difficult to relax when a basic room costs over a thousand Canadian dollars per night. Getting naked has become far too expensive. We are relieved we never purchased the membership upgrade, despite seriously considering it more than once. In hindsight, it would have been one of our biggest vacation mistakes. We have friends who bought what was marketed as a flat rate membership, only to later see increases of about 20 percent, despite believing their agreement capped annual increases at 3 percent. Based on what we have seen, we would not recommend any membership without carefully reviewing the terms and fully understanding future pricing. It is not only room rates. Spa treatments, massages, and other extras have also risen sharply. In our view, the overall value is no longer there. We are not writing this out of dislike for Desire. Quite the opposite. We loved it for nearly 20 years and built unforgettable memories and lifelong friendships. That is exactly why this is so disappointing. We are angry, upset, and frustrated all at the same time. We never imagined that after two decades of loyalty we would be walking away because the resort has become unaffordable. It honestly feels like long time loyal members have been forgotten. Our advice is simple. Compare your options before booking. At these prices, many excellent luxury resorts offer significantly better value. We hope more people take a hard look at these prices before booking. If enough travelers choose to vacation elsewhere, perhaps management will realize they have priced out many loyal guests. Desire has always been about the people who create the atmosphere and friendships. If fewer people can afford to come, everyone loses. We have already noticed restaurants closed Monday through Wednesday, and that takes away from the experience. We hope Desire becomes affordable again so long time guests and new guests alike can enjoy what made this resort so special. I gave this 2 star because of the pricing

  Not the same....

  We have been going to Desire for the past 15 years, between 15 to 20 trips. Unfortunately this will probably be our last for a while. They have really priced themselves out of the market. It really feels like the "fun crowd" has simply gone other places. Occupancy rates are much lower, service has declined. Sadly, it is not the same place it was 5-10 years ago. Hopefully they will make changes to bring people back because truly it used to be the best place on the planet to vacation.
