    Quiet couple’s getaway in paradise

Resort: small resort and beautiful manicured grounds with unique plant displays, everything easy to walk to. Well-kept clean and lovely beach, Emmanuel as kind life- guard, comfy palapas, excellent beach service by Karen and Israel! Beautiful chapel for contemplation! Rooms: Junior suite with hot tub, patio and attentive housekeeping with nightly turndown service. Concierge: Javier was a delight! No pressure, helped coordinate all our days! Activities: high quality crafts (Alex was great!), yoga or pool classes, dance lessons, nightly entertainment- and then quiet by 10pm. Perfection! Fabulous silent party night, Mexican traditions night, Latin band and fire show on the beach. Jerik was our awesome daily dance teacher, and Merlon and Felipe had amazing dance tips and spontaneous lessons! Restaurants: Mexican, Mediterranean, Asian and Italian. Delicious options and thoughtful presentations! Jesus, Arturo, Angel, Nahin and so many others…your engaging service enhanced our evenings every time! Thank you for allowing us to practice our Spanish!🙏🏽. The Ice cream/coffee shop is perfect for AM or PM delight! Excursions: we visited the Eco and rescue ranch - a heartwarming place with senote for a swim, not far from hotel. Learn about trees of Mexico, special bees and the stories of the rescued creatures, do a horse ride if desired. Ambience: No crowds! So quiet. Relaxing. Relational: staff and guests learn names of each other. Ample enjoyment of natural beauty and kindness of the sincere staff!

Delicious food, attentive service and amazing beach!!

We visited for our honeymoon and overall had an amazing stay. The food throughout the property was delicious!! Breakfast, lunch and dinner you could tell there was such attention to detail!! And special shoutout to Jesus, who made our meals feel warm, fun, and memorable. Everyone at the beach provided such great, attentive service. The beach was also absolutely beautiful, and we loved how relaxing and easy the whole all-inclusive experience was. So much was included in the all inclusive, we went to the cenotes, on the catamaran for snorkeling and were able to do so many activities! The only real disappointment was that nothing was acknowledged for our honeymoon even with booking the honeymoon suite. We mentioned it at check-in and again at dinner, so we were a little surprised that it wasn’t even acknowledged as most places will do at least a small gesture. We also paid extra for the specialty restaurant, and unfortunately that was the one place that didn’t match the rest of the resort’s high standards. The service there was very absent; when we asked for a wine suggestion, we were just handed the wine list. The food there wasn’t great either, and even after noting that we were celebrating our honeymoon, nothing was done to make the experience special. The resort as a whole delivered great food, great service, and a beautiful setting for a relaxing getaway. We would absolutely recommend it and will actually be going back with friends this week as we loved our trip in May so much!!

    El Dorado Maroma is Excellent

This was our second trip to El Dorado Maroma was everything was as awesome as we expected and more! Check-in with Ernesto was excellent! We were upgraded to a Presidential Villa with somewhat of an ocean view on each side of the Palifitos. Our Butlers, Israel and Julieta, could not have been more personable and accommodating. Everything that we asked for, large and small, was handled immediately. Our Beach Butler, Alvaro, was THE BEST and kept us out of the sun. Every restaurant was a culinary experience and outstanding service was provided at every restaurant breakfast, lunch and dinner. Augustine was amazing! The Members only wine pairing dinner was the best meal we had. We had coffee delivered to the room each morning and compliment the room service delivery. The beach was as beautiful as we remembered, and the nearby marina activity was interesting without interfering with our quiet time. We loved the size of the property and everything about it. We "swam" with the dolphins and while we were disappointed that the interactive experience was not the same as what our friends had a few years ago, it was very worthwhile. The couple traveling with us did not enjoy the resort as much as we do, unfortunately; but, we do plan to return.

Average - expected better based on the glowing reviews and price point!

Experienced older travellers to the Riviera Maya area for over 20 years and 30+ resorts - started with cheap and cheerful family friendly ones and now choose adult only 5* resorts. This was a mostly disappointing stay; our fourth to the area this year, the others being Iberostar Joia, Excellence Coral Playa Mujeres, Beloved Playa Mujeres and Haven Riviera Cancun. Have always wanted to try EDM, due to the mostly glowing reviews and the exceptional beach - it will be a one-and-done for us. We stayed in the Mi Hotelito section and requested the ground floor due to some mobility issues (no elevator) and this was granted, room 104; although they assigned room 201 initially - directly behind the swim-up bar with large tvs - no thanks! We sit out on our patio quite a bit and prefer "some" tranquility. I knew going in that the suite was small compared to other resorts; however, it had been renovated and apart from the water pressure in the shower fluctuating all the time! and the ceiling fan/light and remote to operate it, having to be seen by maintenance five times with no resolution - never worked, we gave up - it was reasonably comfortable. Only one seat for two people. We had several awful experiences/meals at dinner, with apologies and offers to make it right the next night - with no follow up the next night! We like to dine outside whenever possible, but unfortunately, this resort seems to have resident cats that people encourage and feed and as I'm highly allergic to them, we dined indoors all the time. A few nights this was due to heavy rain - which led to another dislike at this resort; pathways were flooded in the evening in the dark, making it a challenge to get anywhere - no attempt to clear them (other resorts have workers out trying their best to clear the standing water so you don't have to wade through it). Of course, all this water leads to lots of mosquitos.......make sure to take plenty of bug spray! The beach is the saving grace, at least when we were there - lovely, soft, white sand and clear water, albeit so shallow for a long way out that swimming was next to impossible. Be careful if you wade way out, as a couple got into difficulties when they encountered a hole, way out - and the life-guard wasn't paying attention! Guests on the beach were shouting for him to help. Evening entertainment was curtailed a bit while we were there due to the weather, with all planned outdoor events taking place indoors at Rick's bar - a soulless convention room with pool tables at one end, that wasn't suitable for the live band music - acoustics made it very loud and not many people attended. Talking about Rick's bar - a severe lack of "good" liquor choices and mixers, considering this resort is touted as a "luxury" one. I managed to use the "app" and make our own dinner reservations, as the "concierge" we were advised to use, actually wasn't there! Fortunately, we were never bothered by any "club" spiel - I made it quite clear on arrival we weren't interested in the slightest. They have a dress code for the restaurants, but it doesn't seem to be enforced, unfortunately. As at most "luxury" resorts, the workers try their hardest to give good service. All-in-all, a bit of a disappointment.
