Great Property. Terrible Service. Indifferent Staff.

Fairmont Mayakoba is a beautiful property - that lacks empathy. We have stayed in some of the best resorts across the world and have never encountered the indifference that we did at the Fairmont. We stayed for 5 nights on a breakfast included package. One of the days we had to leave the resort by 645am for a day long trip. The hotel's breakfast starts at 7am. I had spoken to the night-manager to request if we can come by early and take a croissant to-go as we head out and she had agreed. The next day when we went in to breakfast at 645am. The breakfast spread had already been laid out (see attached pic). Pamela Cuevas was the manager in charge. Pamela refused to let us touch the breakfast - all because we were a few minutes early. She insisted that she could not let us touch the breakfast before 7am. Despite requesting her that we would head out directly and that she would not even have to serve us, and despite having paid for breakfast - she insisted that she could not let us near the breakfast until 7am! My husband is diabetic who had to have his food and this rigidity was painful to experience. We have stayed in several of the best resorts across the world and something as trivial as this would not be an issue at all. Staff like Pamela require training in empathy and hospitality.

Good with some aspects it could do without and do better in

The resort is quite spectacular in terms of its setting and layout. While there are many pros, there are also some cons, pretty strong ones as noted below --Very friendly and attentive service at all stages except very disappintingly at the lobby front desk, where staff tends to be business-like to borderline rude and unyielding to requests of any kind - a fellow guest wanted a late check out, which was summarily denied despite what seemed like a half-empty resort. -- Breakfast is superb with an incredible selection of fruits, Mexican choices, and of course a custom omelette and a host of other great offerings. However, the food at Bassano restaurant is unworthy of such a fine place. The pastas were flavorless and sub-par, and would not have passed muster in any major US metropolitan city's Italian restaurants - Rooms are well designed, particularly the villas, but have RIDICULOUSLY thin walls. You can hear EVERYTHING in the next room and the villa below!!! Further, the quality of the construction is not great as some of the slats on the sliding doors leading to the terrace had cracked with the door coming off its railing. The noise was the worst - highly annoying and disruptive! -- The resort has plenty of bicycles to move around, besides a constant flow of golf carts staffed by very friendly drivers willing to take you pretty much anywhere, almost all the time! - Did not use the SPA, but the fitness center is excellent with every possible piece of equipment one could ask for.

    Gaia is a delightful experience

I had an amazing experience at Gaia. The food was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented—especially the grilled octopus and the seared tuna, which were outstanding. What truly made the evening special, though, was the service. Our waiter, Roberto, did a fantastic job. He was attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeable about the menu, and gave excellent recommendations. He made sure everything was perfect from start to finish and always checked in with a genuine smile. Thanks to his professionalism and warmth, the entire meal felt relaxed and enjoyable. Great food paired with exceptional service made this a memorable visit. I’ll definitely be coming back—and I hope Roberto is working when I do.
