Clean beautiful resort, service is lacking at times
The entire property was gorgeous and very clean. 99% of the staff was amazing and the food was generally good. Had a disappointing experience at Magna which is makes it extra disappointing since Magna is for Excellence club members only.

Mediocre
7 nights at about $8400.00 CAN. This place better be good but it's a mixed bag at best. 1. The rooms are quite frankly an exercise in frustration: i) This stupid large opening in the wall from the bathroom. Who thought of this ridiculous design decision? Every point in the following flows from this design decision. ii) Good luck to get a good nights sleep. There are motion sensors which blast the toilet light into the bedroom. You can put tape over the sensors but you still must turn the light on to the toilet which will wreak havoc on your sleep pattern if you are a light sleeper because it blasts into the bedroom. With the taped sensors you then walk to the bathroom turn the blast on and by now you've already woken your significant other who gets their shot of illumination. iii) I can honestly state this was the worst sleep experience I've ever experienced in any hotel/resort let alone one of this caliber. iv) Presupposing an answer to this: if this was such a great design decision why is it in the newer Excellence Coral Playa Mujeres this opening has now been covered up? v) Privacy! Please. Some people enjoy their privacy when they go crapping and p#$$ing regardless of their intimacy. This is completely disdainful of that. I go to the toilet while my partner is trying to sleep only to let some loud ones go! Yes, this is a great idea! Conclusion: Live and learn. The sleep and bathroom issue rates this at best a 1 and I'm being kind. There was no way to mitigate this issue. Obviously it is an issue because the Coral newer version closes the light portal up.lol Sound portal as well? 2. The food was average. Coffee was the worst coffee. Let me spend a little time on their coffee: i) Do you like to drink lukewarm tasteless coffee? In the morning my GF complained. They then brought hot coffee. I'm speaking of every restaurant with the tasteless coffee. The Kitchen Table served lukewarm coffee. First thing in the morning. You don't want to confront people but GF brought it to their attention and it happened again another morning. Further, whatever coffee they are using whether the little coffee shop or the restaurants it's as if management ordered the cheapest coffee available. Give me a Tim Horton's any day of the week over this tripe. Last year we went to one of the Iberostar resorts and the coffee from just the buffet area was superb. ii) Keeping with the theme of coffee. I Iike cream in my coffee. Like real dairy cream: Not that fake filler stuff Carnation. Yes folks this resort likes you to fill your coffee with the Carnation concoction which they obviously buy in bulk. I once had a physician scold me years ago when I was putting this junk in my coffee: he warned me it's like putting concrete in your arteries. This junk is not becoming a resort of presumably this caliber. iii) Some reviewer had stated in a recent review they have gone numerous times to this resort but will no longer as the quality of their fare has decreased. Be that as it may it wasn't a total washout. The two standout restaurants are Chez Isabelle and Magna as we were club members with respect to Magna. But then the others are hit and miss. For example "Spice": the absolute worst Ramen I've ever tasted and I have had numerous Ramens. It tasted like noodles thrown in a bowl of weak broth. This is unforgivable. And the sushi - do you like ordering timbits (Canadians know what I'm talking about) size sushi where you literally have to order them over and over just so you can feel you have not eaten air? The Kitchen Table had very good fair and variety no doubt but their coffee was insipid as noted above. How can you enjoy a breakfast when the coffee is garbage. Las Olas was very good as we ordered several of their Mexican fares. Service was fast and the food delicious. The Lobster house was ok. Basmati - I love East Indian food. The chicken tikka masala was very poor and insipid. I guess the blessing was that it was a tiny portion with a tinier portion of rice for the fare of both me and my GF! Ok order more rice! lol. The Grill - Come on now. The "grill" and my steak was completely tasteless. The table next to us ordered a nice big steak and left virtually the whole thing on their plate. I think I needed HP sauce but I just wanted to taste a tastless and feckless steak instead of covering it with sauce. This is a fail. 3) I'm going to move on. The bars. Very good. No issue there. 4) The Cabanas. If you're a club member and absolutely despise mad scrambles the good news is that every day we wanted one they were available. This is a significant plus. 5) Transportation to and from the airport first class all the way as this was included in the cost. 6) Here is another bad one. I booked Club and specifically asked for a room as that option was given to be. This was in June of last year. I go to the resort (Feb.7/26) and I have a totally different room. This is not to be taken out on staff as management sucks here. You wasted my time in going thoroughly through the map, exploring the views etc. only to be give a totally different room in an area I didn't want. Thanks. Instead of making a scene I told my GF i would post my disenchantment of your site, which I booked directly through the Excellence site and doing the exact opposite in the area I wanted. The least you could have done was given an upgrade as an act of good faith. Conclusion: I could say more but anyone thinking they can appreciate/adapt to rooms in this resort think again if you are a light sleeper and enjoy your privacy regarding what you do in the bathroom. Sleep disturbed numerous times with no way to mitigate. There is your warning. Now I must say the people working here are first class. Everyone of them. They salvaged this rating because without their professionalism and capabilities this resort would be a complete disappointment instead of just an average experience. Last time we'll be going here. Deserves a 60% but I'm being generous today.

Once again incredible
We vacationed at Excellence Playa Mujeres for the fourth year in a row Jan 27-Feb 3, 2026. While the weather was absolutely NOT perfect (it was cloudy, windy and COLD), we still had a great time because nearly everything else was! Have there been changes? Yep. Is every change one we love? Of course not. Did any of the changes make it so that we don’t enjoy our trip? Also no. So, here’s my take- warning: it’ll probably be long. The property is beautiful- it is exquisitely maintained. Watching those guys work is actually incredible. This includes the hotel grounds as well as the beach. There was very little seaweed while we were there. The gym had been remodeled since last year and is so much more spacious and functional. I made good use of it for the first couple of days, my husband used it more regularly. It’s nice to be able to maintain some of that routine even while on vacation. One thing we missed from the old setup was the cold water bottles in the fridge inside the gym. Currently, they have a water filling station and cups which isn’t very convenient while working out. The staff in the gym is great, they’re very helpful. We did a stretch, breathe, move class with Alejandro in the palapa near the beach. It was a great way to start our morning, even if we did get rained on while we were finishing! We missed the yoga class this year and I was bummed- it was SO GOOD last year. We enjoyed the restaurants despite the menu changes. I am incredibly indecisive so fewer options is actualy helpful for me- and the food is really very good for an all inclusive resort. We really enjoyed The Grill this year and ate dinner there twice. Adriel was our waiter and he was amazing- I wish we would have seen him both nights! Some of the waiters, specifically at lunch and dinner, were familiar from previous stays but unfortunately I’m not going to be able to mention all of them- someday I will learn to take better notes! Tonatiuh and Miguel should definitely get a special mention- top notch service!! One of my very favorite parts of our vacation is always the activities, whether it’s yoga/stretching, a bike tour, making bracelets, string/bead crafts, aqua Zumba painting, volleyball – both water and sand, bingo or trivia, or even salsa lessons, I guess! While I loved the activities, I would be lying ifI said I didn’t miss a few things – there was no live music around the pool – no saxophone, no violin, nothing. In fact, even aqua Zumba is now done with headphones! It felt a lot less “fun“. We also missed the cocktail lessons in the afternoons. The week we were there, they didn’t have the burlesque show – the first time we haven’t seen it in four years – it’s my favorite! Some of the new shows are OK, too, but there seems to be less shows and more live music/karaoke. Despite all of this, the entertainment team once again maintained their standard – they are fun and engaging without making anyone feel uncomfortable. It seems their team is quite small, the same people were there day after day after day, morning until night. We enjoyed them all –Monica, Andres, Kevin, Gabriel, and even Sergio before he left! Jesus was a member of the entertainment team on our previous visit, he has since moved into a new role as an excellence club concierge, but we saw him often around the resort, always checking to make sure everything was going well and there was nothing we needed. This was the first year we went out on the hobey cat – it was really incredible! We will definitely take advantage of the included non-motorized water sports again. To be completely honest, the staff is the major standout at this particular resort. Several bartenders and waiters deserve mention – they remember our names, they remember our drinks. It’s really amazing- I wish I could remember all of them! Eduardo, Sergio, Daniel, Jose, Manuel, Roger, Jhonatan and Cesar were all incredible. They made what we asked for, they made new things for us to try, they kept the shots coming, and they paid attention to when we (I*) had had enough. Floricel, Angel, Roman, Emmanuel and Jonathan (who was a trainee according to his badge) made sure we always had what we needed, they made sure we had everything we needed and never went thirsty. All of this to say, I’d happily come back here year after year after year for the rest of my life!

An Amazing Stay at Excellence Playa Mujeres
It was my first time coming to Mexico, and when choosing a resort, I wanted to stay somewhere with lots of palm trees and beautiful palapas. Our stay at Excellence Playa Mujeres was absolutely amazing. The staff were incredible, especially Kevin and Andres, who hosted the shows and activities. We joined at least three activities everyday, and they were so much fun! It was also a great opportunity to learn more about Mexican culture. We booked the Excellence Club, which gave us access to a private beach, pool, bar, and restaurant. It was totally worth it! Our concierge, Edgar, was very kind and attentive. He made sure every day that we were enjoying our stay whenever we came to the pool. My favorite bartender was Robert, who works the morning shift at the main bar. He makes the best drinks! We will definitely come back every year. Thank you for giving us such a happy and relaxing vacation 🤍
