Cancelled our booking, then put us in a room with black mould
We arrived at the Flamingo Cancún Resort after an exhausting delayed journey — already a day and a half behind schedule due to a cancelled flight — only to be told at the front desk that our booking had been cancelled entirely, despite having a confirmed reservation made months in advance through a package holiday provider. Rather than honouring the booking or proactively resolving it, we were placed for a single night in what was described as a "sister property," which was not comparable to what we'd booked and paid for. The room condition was genuinely poor — the mattress was in an unacceptable state, and there was visible black mould in the room, which is not something you expect to be dealing with at any point on a family holiday, let alone as the "solution" offered after a resort cancels your confirmed booking. After that one night, we were left to source and pay for a different hotel entirely ourselves, with no meaningful help from the resort to fix the situation they had caused. To add to the frustration, we later paid directly for an additional night at the Flamingo in an attempt to salvage part of the original booking — and even that separately paid night wasn't properly honoured. For a resort that had already cancelled a confirmed reservation on arrival, failing to deliver on a night we'd paid for on the spot was a genuinely poor way to handle an already difficult situation. After a booking failure of this scale, on arrival, with a family in tow, I wouldn't trust this property to hold a reservation and would not stay here again.

Better than expected!
Reviews showed 3.5-4 stars. We have always stayed in 5 star bigger resorts, took a chance with Flamingo, and to our surprise… much better. We will definitely be back! Rooms are a little dated, but you only sleepin there. Food was tasty, grounds kept very clean, staff super friendly, and happy to serve you.

3 ROOMS IN 11 DAYS
We started off our holiday getting into an argument with men trying to rip us off at the airport when trying to get a taxi. They're very scary. We ended up giving him over $100 dollars for a journey that actually cost us $50 on our return tip home. -*TIP*- We booked via Tui on their app for our return journey. The hotel was nice and clean. We booked a room with a swim up pool. There was a man who was constantly cleaning the pool. He was always so friendly and nice to us. Room 224 First few days were fine. We were near Don Robertos Bar & Pizzeria within the hotel. So could go up and get Cocktails or a pizza and go back to our patio with our own Sunbeds. We managed to get WiFi in the room, so could watch YouTube on the TV/iPhone. HOWEVER... one morning we had a knock at the door. The man said "Check out". I was puzzled as we had like 6 days left of our holiday. He didn't speak good English but I did catch "Front Desk". I went to Reception and they said I need to move because they needed to do some work on the water and electrics. We were moved to one of their "better" rooms. Room 111 It also has a swim up pool. HOWEVER... The Sunbeds were the most uncomfortable thing I have ever lay on (See photos). They were very thin and small. You could only lie on them for 15 minutes MAX. I couldn't sunbathe on them, so had to use the front pool which meant getting up extra early to make sure I got a lounger as they were gone pretty quickly. I never used the swim up pool. There was NO SIGNAL in the room so could only use my phone by the front pool. As we had NO WIFI!! This room is obviously for the disabled, as it comes with a ramp down to the rooms with an automatic door. It is very secluded and soon realised an elderly couple were next to us. This room comes with a Butler between 9-5. He said he can bring us food or drinks or anything we needed. We kept complaining at the desk about how we disliked the room. We asked when our old room would be ready. We had 3 different staff members tell us all different story. The Butler told us it would be ready today, another staff member said tomorrow, the front desk manager said it Friday. Turns out we were able to escape on Saturday morning. Room 221 This was our favourite room even though we only stayed for 2 nights in total. There is no communication between staff members at all. Apart from the reception staff very few spoke English. I asked for a coca-cola at the bar and he couldn't understand me so had to get a different waiter. The food was ok but very repetitive We ate out a lot. We made friends with other English tourists in the hotel and they all said the same thing. Lovely Hotel in a great location but I just didn't feel welcome. When you asked a question some of the staff would get annoyed. I was happy to leave by day 11. Vaping/Smoking is weird in Mexico. They banned vaping in January 2026 yet in The Coco Bongo my boyfriend could vape inside. But a French Lady got fined $200 dollars for smoking on the beach.

2/5 – Very Disappointing Stay, Saved Only by a Couple of Staff Members
Unfortunately, our stay at the Flamingo All Inclusive Hotel Cancun was a major disappointment. Upon arrival, we were checked into a room that was clearly not fit for guests. There were virtually no working plug sockets, with the only available socket not functioning at all. The room also had no working hairdryer and no working telephone, meaning we couldn’t even contact reception about the issues. To make matters worse, our luggage wasn’t brought to the room for around 45 minutes to an hour, despite us wanting to get out and start enjoying our holiday. We eventually found ourselves searching for our own belongings. When we reported the problems, we were moved rooms with very little apology or acknowledgement of how unacceptable the original room was. The next room they allocated us was on the opposite side of the hotel and effectively a downgrade due to limited availability. Even worse, that room was already occupied. After returning to reception and feeling like our concerns weren’t being taken seriously, staff finally checked the room themselves and confirmed it was occupied. We were then moved for a third time, finally ending up in a room that was in good condition. For an all-inclusive resort, the food options were surprisingly limited. Most evenings we either ate out or ordered food in from elsewhere. On one occasion, we decided to eat at the hotel and ordered burgers and fries. After waiting a considerable amount of time just to get seated, and being told takeaway wasn’t an option, the food finally arrived. My burger contained a long black hair, and I was served with just three fries. Yes, three. Photos were taken as evidence. This was brought to the attention of Omar, the Food & Beverage Manager, who is genuinely the only reason this review isn’t a 1/5. Omar was professional, apologetic, and seemed genuinely shocked by what had happened. He took the issue seriously and tried to understand how such a poor standard of food had been served. Throughout the stay, whenever we ordered food from outside the hotel, security repeatedly questioned us and stated that outside food wasn’t allowed. Given the quality and limitations of the food available on-site, we chose to bring it in regardless. The only decent food at the resort was in the reservation-only restaurant, which must be booked in advance. The service there was excellent, particularly from Brenda, one of the waitresses, who was an absolute delight and provided some of the best customer service we experienced during the entire stay. Another major disappointment was the beach. Throughout our stay, it was covered in sargassum seaweed. Despite the environmental fees guests are charged, the hotel did not appear to clean the beach once while we were there. Meanwhile, neighbouring hotels were actively maintaining their beachfronts. To add to the disruption, there was construction work taking place during the day, with constant drilling and banging noises affecting the atmosphere around the hotel. Overall, this is a borderline 3-star hotel at best, with some rooms falling below that standard. Cancun itself was amazing, and our flights were excellent, but the hotel was a huge let-down. Aside from Omar and Brenda, the staff generally appeared uninterested in resolving issues or understanding guest concerns. I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere for your next holiday.
