Old, musty, dangerous! Needs shutting down!
Profoundly Disappointing and Unsafe - Avoid at All Costs My partner and I recently returned from what was supposed to be a 4-star all-inclusive holiday at the Golden Parnassus, booked through Love Holidays, and our experience was nothing short of a nightmare. This hotel is a gross misrepresentation, and I feel compelled to share our story to prevent others from enduring the same misery. From the moment we arrived, the hotel felt dingy and poorly maintained. The main foyer was stiflingly hot with ripped seating, and only one of the two elevators was working, causing frustratingly long waits. Our room offered no escape; the air conditioning smelled musty, barely cooled the room below 25.5°C, and intermittently cut out, severely disrupting our sleep. The shower head was visibly rusted, adding to the general feeling of neglect. The most distressing and dangerous aspect of our stay was the hotel's complete failure to cater to my Coeliac disease. Despite assurances at check-in, the staff showed a total lack of understanding of "gluten-free." On our first night, after extensive questioning, I was offered only plain rice. There was a complete absence of allergen signage, which caused immense anxiety. My fears were tragically realized when I witnessed cross-contamination on a grill and, after unknowingly consuming contaminated food, suffered a night of severe sickness, cramps, and diarrhoea. An apology was given, but no meaningful action followed, leaving me constantly afraid of becoming ill again. The dining experience was a complete disaster. Restaurants like "Pier 12" were permanently closed, and "Sumo" was open only once. The food timetables were inaccurate, and when we did find an open restaurant, items were frequently missing from the menu. My sole "gluten-free" option was often bland, unseasoned chicken or vegetables, which were also frequently unavailable. Buffet dinners were sparse, rarely topped up, making it feel like we were eating leftovers. We often went to bed hungry despite paying for an all-inclusive holiday. Cleanliness and maintenance were appalling throughout the entire property. We saw tablecloths with the same stains for days. Parts of the hotel were cordoned off due to serious issues like dripping roofs, trip hazards, and even a fallen ceiling. The poolside bar was closed for three days after a roof collapse. We encountered dirty cutlery, chipped plates, exposed wires, power cuts, brown water, broken furniture, non-functional gym equipment, and flat, watered-down drinks from a constantly broken machine. Ants even bit us during meals. The situation became so unbearable that my partner paid for a two-day trip to Playa del Carmen just so we could escape the hotel. Upon our return, we were treated appallingly. Our bracelets were cut off, we were escorted by security, and the receptionist was rude and disbelieving about our room number, refusing to apologize after our booking was confirmed. The Golden Parnassus is, in my opinion, a 2-3 star hotel at best, and its failures, particularly concerning my serious dietary needs and safety, completely ruined our holiday. This was a miserable and unacceptable experience from start to finish. Avoid this hotel if you value your health, safety, and money.

BEST STAFF AROUND
We had a nice stay, ONLY because of the lovely staff (sadly, many of left, see the "Fans of Golden Parnassus" Facebook page), the hotel itself is in need of major restoration, rumor is it is closing in October or December?!! Management, can you elaborate on this as we have a trip booked for January 2026!!!

2 star hotel
This hotel is definitely not a 4 star hotel. To start with probably the only positive is that all rhe staff were very friendly and helpful and although we went in seaweed season there was very minimal amounts on our portion of the beach. HOWEVER The rooms were extremely outdated, not specifically unhygienic but just dirty and stained, the pillows were so lumpy and uncomfortable and the air con didn’t go below 26 degrees, the cleaning staff would knock at 8:30 every morning to ask if we wanted our rooms cleaned later, this woke us up on multiple occasions. The pool was dirty always had bits floating round in it that looked like tissue and just general dirt and by 11 am the pool was so hot it felt like a bath this made sunbathing pretty unbearable so I was back in my room by 2pm everyday. The food was not great, breakfast had a few options but not really any meat choices and the coffee is just instant coffee and they only serve it at breakfast. I would have my lunch every day at the breeze bar round the pool, this was by far the nicest food the hotel had as it was all cooked fresh. The dinner buffet was only open one night which we was very confused about so we had to go to the restaurants for dinner. All food in the restaurants were obviously pre cooked and microwaved as everything came out so quickly and was extremely hot as was the plates, food had really small portions and just wasn’t very nice. The menu was quite big but every single night half the stuff on the menu was unavailable, I personally think they was just on there for show and they didn’t actually have them. When having my breakfast in the main buffet room I saw baby cockroaches on multiple occasions, when I told the staff they just killed the roach or laughed it off but I continued to see them after that so clearly nothing was done about it. There was minimal entertainment available every night was just karaoke that no one went to and aqua aerobics in the pool every day but the pool was so shallow and only came up to your hips that water aerobics was a bit awkward. None of the communal areas in the hotel had any air con or fans even the restaurants so you couldn’t really sit and enjoy your dinner or any drinks as it was so hot. The drinks had barely any alcohol in them. Inside the air con was loads of black dust, by the end of the holiday this made me and my mum quite ill but as soon as we left our room for a bit we had none of the symptoms so clearly it was whatever we was breathing in that made us ill. Overall I would not stay here again or recommend anyone to stay here

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE
BEWARE!!! we came here last year. It was dilapidated, but very nice and was fully staffed as well as all restaurants were open. We arrived a year later July 2025 there’s barely anybody working there. There was only one snack bar by the pool open. They didn’t know when any other restaurants would open if at all , but the worst part about it , was our room‘s air conditioner did not work. it was 85° And would not get any cooler.. granted the front desk people were so kind but they can only do so much. They offered us to change to a different room and we did. It was not any better. It was 83° and would not get any cooler I asked for a fan they did not have any fans available. There was no refrigerator in the room for even a cold drink. There was no refuge to even cool off anywhere. There was any air conditioning anywhere the only cool places to go where the gift shops which you obviously can only spend money in there . It was a nonrefundable reservation, which should’ve been a red flag from the get go but I surely didn’t think it would be worse than it was last year. I thought it would be the same or a bit better. All the people that we saw walking around, all looked miserable and looking for a place to cool off. It’s obvious the owner is taking every bit of profit and pocketing it . I’m just thinking that the safety in that hotel of fire or elevators breaking down or even does the food or alcohol or beverages you have to worry about. I’m not sure if they have inspections in Mexico, but if they do this place would not be open so I’m thinking that I would run away as far as I could and go somewhere else we ended up going next-door to Sandos Cancun all inclusive it was amazing. In fact it was only like $50 more. Good luck.

The hotel was lovely and the amenities were great, but what truly made our stay memorable was the staff. Every single person we met there was incredible. Especially, thank you to Silverio and Jessica. They were courteous, friendly, happy, and so kind.
