“Get ready to enjoy the same experience as a 3-star cruise.”

Get ready to experience what feels like a 3-star cruise: the worst food I have ever had in Mexico, with a quality reminiscent of a school cafeteria. It seems the hotel’s policy is to make as much money as possible from guests on their first visit, knowing they probably won’t return. My advice: choose another place. Mexico is an incredible country, full of amazing destinations, authentic experiences, and warm, welcoming people. Don’t let one poor hotel ruin your trip. Explore the true beauty and richness that Mexico has to offer.”

    Absolutely Stunning Resort

I truly recommend Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres for a travel destination. It's a large resort with lots of things to do for all ages. We went for our destination wedding, the amount of things to offer was amazing, we felt like maybe we didn't have enough time during our week to experience it all. The pool is large and never felt crowded. The beach was clean and chairs and umbrellas were always available. The night life was perfect with daily shows, an outdoor nightclub and a 24/7 sports bar. All the restaurants were amazing. My only complaint would be the main buffet, the Isla Blanca felt like it was always busy and hard to get tables for more than 4 guests, and then the stations with chefs always seemed extremely long as they'd only work on one order at a time, ex the omelette stations would have lineups of 10+ people with one chef working the grill and only cooking one omelette at a time but with a grill that could easily prepare 4 omelettes at once. And as I said we did do our destination wedding at the resort and even though we did have a phenomenal time, the wedding did have a handful of hiccups, the majority coming from the fact we planned 95% of the wedding with one Wedding Coordinator on site but a few weeks before the wedding she was moved to assist a larger wedding and we were given a less experienced Coordinator. Though she did try her best to fill in, we did notice right away her skills were lacking. We stuck with her and we kinda regret it as a lot of little details that we discussed with the original coordinator, though brought up in meetings and in notes with the new one, were missed or weren't accomplished as what we wanted. We know every wedding is going to have issues and isn't going to be perfect but when you have issue after issue and it stems from the coordinator's lack of experience or ambition, it hurts. Luckily all the other staff that were assisting made up for some of the issues we had. One example was we had asked for signature drinks for the cocktail hour and reception, we provided recipes and pictures to be approved by the bar staff and they informed us they would be able to make the drinks no problem. The day of the wedding we found out that for the entire cocktail hour and part of the reception they were given the wrong drink recipe by the coordinator that looked and tasted nothing like what we asked for. Luckily the bar manager was able to quickly find the correct recipe and make the correct changes.

    Never Again

This was my first and last all inclusive. The prices are very expensive. We had multiple problems with our room during the stay including the phone not working, the room being dirty, our fridge not being restocked AT ALL during our stay (so we had no water), room service never showing up. And each time issues were brought to staff they would either say they would help and be right back, and never come back, or they would try to pass us off to another staff member who would tell us flat out they couldn’t help us. After this experience, I would never do all inclusive again.

    Not suitable for families

My husband and I were traveling for the first time with our baby of 6 months and from the beginning, this trip had hiccups. We booked through a travel agent with a large wedding group. A couple months before the trip, Sunwing was acquired by WestJet I guess and our flights were changed. Our flight was clearly not given priority as the times were changes from late morning to late night a redeye. For a baby on an airplane this was not a great plan. The travel agent was able to provide one and only one option for a slight increase in price which was way better but still involved waking our baby up at 2:30 am on the way there. She troopered through and we made it there fairly easily. At the desk we were not provided the room which we had booked with the agent as there was some sort of miscommunication along the way. We had asked for a pool access and were given pool side. We were hoping to be able to spend some time at the pool while hanging out just outside the room while our baby slept but since our monitor did not work through the thick walls, this was not an option. The resort was clearly over capacity and we were asked a couple times if it was our family member getting married. I got the sense that if this were the case we would have been given better accommodations but I was not going to lie. Our room was nice enough even though the bathroom glass door creaked so loudly every time we opened it so couldn’t at night as it would wake up the baby. If one of us had to leave the pool to have her take a nap we would just have to suck it up. When we got to the room the fridge was not cold at all which is a big problem as our baby is only bottle fed and the breastmilk needs to be in the fridge so it doesn’t spoil. When I mentioned to the front desk that our fridge was not cold enough to keep my baby’s milk cold the response was “Oh the fridges are meant to be that cold”. This was an absolutely atrocious response as this is a family resort and they should be equipped for this problem. We clearly could not rely on the resort so we pivoted again by using the wash bin which I brought to do baby bottle dishes with as a cooler which we had to constantly rotate with ice which made a mess and was a hassle because it only stayed cold for 5-6 hours…which meant we would have to get up in the middle of the night to add more ice too. On a second issue, a friend that booked at the family select resort was sent an email ahead of time to be able to reserve certain items, one being a bottle sterilizer. This was amazing since I was worried about being able to sterilize the bottles and my pump. They were not provided this on arrival and when they let the front desk know their response was that a third-party company sent them the email and they had no idea that they required a sterilizer. Again, this is unacceptable. If you offer a service to your guests, you need to be able to provide it. So, between the sterilizer and the fridge, I was very concerned that my baby was either going to starve or get sick from either spoiled milk or unpotable water being used to wash her bottles. Thankfully, my friend went to the front desk and spent some time there the second day to ensure they had this figured out. I did have to switch her to formula for a couple bottles as my pump was not clean and I could no longer use it to feed her but eventually we got it sorted. Then I had a ton of dished to do. Since I was using my wash tub as a cooler, I had to use their sink. The plug did not actually stop the water from going down the drain, it only slowed it. This meant I needed to use much more soap than regular but it was workable. I can usually also put my pumps in the fridge and only sterilize them once a day but since we could not use the fridge, we had to wash them and sterilize them after every use. This would have been less terrible if we had the room we originally booked but, in the end, it just meant less time as a family as someone was up in the room doing dishes. Completely unrelated, on the first night, I was sitting on the bed feeding my daughter around midnight and a total stranger walked into my room. She looked at me and said “This isn’t my room. Why did my bracelet work?” That was a very good question which the front desk could not answer. Now I felt we had a serious security issue and I did not want that happening again. We ended up switching rooms (to another room we didn’t ask for in the first place) and the fridge was even warmer than the first room. Thank goodness we had a system figured out to manage. We got through the week with the systems we came up with and booked a bellman for 7:45 am to bring our luggage to the front to catch our 8:15 am bus to the airport. We were told we can go get breakfast and our bags would come. At 8:00 we noticed our bags were not there yet and the bus was starting to load guests. The man at the front desk said “Your bags are on their way” without double checking. Now everyone is loaded on the bus and our bags are still not there. A second staff member who is in charge of helping with the buses asked on his radio if anyone had been to our room and they had not. We were then told they were coming now. At 30 minutes after the bus should have left the Nexus tour guide in charge of loading everyone on the bus then said he had to leave and we would have to pay for a taxi to the airport and we would get reimbursed (side note, my sister-in-law left two days earlier and she was somehow not on the list and also needed to pay for a taxi to the airport which was $187 US. I was angry but had no voice and was resigned at this point. Thankfully our luggage showed up just as the bus was pulling out so we were able to get on. We had to carry our stroller and luggage onto the bus as it was full underneath but we made it. Overall, this resort was not equipped to handle a baby as a guest, even though it is a family resort and must have a ton of babies due to the 70 weddings they have some months.
