Meh
This is our second day here, checked in last night to a pool access room. We're in building 14 and when we were checking in they mentioned they were doing construction but it wouldn't affect us . It's literally in front of our room! They started at 9 am and woke us up after a long day traveling. Bed is also uncomfortable and ac is not that cold. We payed so much money to be here and this is our first impression.

Adequate. Satisfactory. Not much else
Over the last 10-15 years, I have been fortunate to enjoy some genuinely great vacations, ranging from average to ultra high end. I make a point of finding positives wherever I can. I am not a complainer, and I have a personal rule. For every bad review I leave, I must leave two positive ones. I leave this one with a heavy heart. This is my second time visiting a Grand Palladium resort. Two years ago, I stayed at White Sands a little further south. I left with similar feelings to this visit but chose not to leave a review, assuming I simply would not return. Oddly, I have now ended up at another GP resort due to a conference. We thought, well, at least it is free of sorts this time. And at least we could go in with low expectations, which let us be honest are often what derail a vacation in the first place. That said, imagine having a free family holiday, going in with low expectations, and still being disappointed. Following this stay, I have made the decision not to visit any more of these properties, nor their affiliates. The best way I can describe this resort is fur coat, no knickers. It is undeniably beautiful and very well kept, but beneath the facade there is very little substance. Specifics We arrived unexpectedly late, around 10:30 pm, so room service was our only option. Fine. The food was the sort of thing a hungry teenager could rustle up. It arrived around midnight, roughly a 90 minute wait. Restaurant bookings are another story. This really should not be difficult, yet the process is truly archaic. From what I can tell, it involves queuing for ages only to be told you cannot get into the restaurants you want, or that the only available seating is at 10:30 pm. To make matters worse, the person handling reservations did not seem to know what day it was and booked us into random restaurants, at random times, with varying numbers of people. True story. It took three separate visits to reach any kind of resolution. Weirdly, if you are a member, you can book everything easily through the app. We also requested that the pull out sofa bed be prepared for our daughter. It was finally done at the end of day three after, and this is not an exaggeration, five separate requests. My experience at the Japanese restaurant was poor. After waiting 40 minutes to be seated, despite having a reservation, we did not have the dining experience we expected. If a conversation with a manager includes, “Can you tell me what I am allowed to order?” then something is very broken. Rules also appear to be applied inconsistently. Do not go there expecting sushi, teppanyaki, or ramen. You will be told what you are allowed to order. Other negatives • Our bathroom door does not close • The bath tap fell off when we turned on the jetted tub, revealing a generous amount of electrical tape where someone had clearly done a quick fix • Walkways are narrow, especially with constant golf cart traffic • Finding decent poolside spots is difficult, and the best areas are reserved for members • Mattresses have waterproof liners. If you are wondering why you are sweating at night, that is why • At dinner, you are asked to scan a QR code to leave a review. It turns out this is not for the restaurant but for the hotel. Look for reviews mentioning servers by name and you will see why • No food service to sun loungers, and the nearby beach bar food was genuinely atrocious • There is no way, as far as I can tell, to order drinks to your room other than paying for bottles of champagne or wine. No gin and tonics, not even white wine. I briefly considered ordering a bottle of rose until I realised they were charging $75 for a $12 bottle • The Italian restaurant was amateur at best. I had cold, dry chicken, and they had to be reminded of a special occasion five minutes before we left. The waiter, Erving, was very good. His kitchen team let him down • For the love of God, give people steak knives if they are eating steak Positives • The breakfast buffet is pleasant • The lunch buffet was also very good. I highly recommend the Mexican section. I had some genuinely memorable lunches • The Indian restaurant, while not what I would call authentic, was enjoyable, and the staff were excellent • There does not appear to be much of a dress code, as long as you are not in wet clothing. That works for me. That said, adults turning up to the buffet in nightwear should really be turned away for hygiene reasons • The sports bar was decent, staff were friendly, and food was consistently available • The Bravo dinner and dance experience was enjoyable, though not ideal for conversation • The wristband key cards are excellent. Loved them • The wifi around the resort was very good, with connectivity pretty much everywhere Pro tips Be persistent with restaurant bookings. If there are no reservations available, turn up anyway and say you are happy to wait. Slipping $20 also helps. I got into the steak restaurant that supposedly had no availability. We were there for two hours and counted at least ten empty tables. Understand where you are seated in the Japanese restaurant. There are three separate menus depending on how important you are. Breakfast is a much nicer experience if you are an early riser. Order the filet mignon at the steakhouse. My wife’s was exquisite. My rib eye was barely edible, certainly with the butter knife provided. Unless you are a chronic bed wetter, remove the plastic mattress liner for a better night’s sleep.
