    NOT a Waldorf Astoria

    This is a dated hotel and is really a Hilton, NOT a Waldorf. The service just is not there. Very crowded pool, difficult to find chairs and they charge a $55 resort fee which includes 2 beach chairs but an umbrella costs $150 fr the day. Neither the Marriott or Four Seasons do this! $30 for an ok chicken sandwich. Over $100 for a steak! If the quality and service was there I would not complaint, but it is not. As a Diamon Honors memeber, I was hoping for an upgrade, but they do not do that here. No lounge unless you pay for the Napu tower. $25pp does not cover breakfast. At $1000 a night, this place is a rip off. Worth about $350

    Our family of 5 travelled from Australia to the Grand Wailea. We had read some amazing reviews, and some which were negative. The resort was a big splurge for us and our family of 5, so we were hoping we made the right decision. The Grand Wailea was AMAZING! From the service, to the facilities, to the rooms, to the location; we just couldn’t fault it. Our kids had an absolute ball swimming for hours on end in the pools, so much so, we barely had to leave the resort. The pools were warm, clean, and well attended by friendly and warm staff, monitoring all slides for safety. We paid a little extra to ensure interconnecting rooms, and it was well worth it. We had a room on the ground floor, which meant we could walk straight from our room, onto the lush grass and pools and beach, within seconds. The rooms were clean, modern and felt special. The grounds of the resort are exceptionally beautiful. The gardens are filled with incredibly landscaped gardens and everything is a visual feast. We would return here in a heartbeat, and don’t know how our children will ever stay at any other resort after this 5 star experience. We 1000% recommend!

    Large Hotel - Good For Corporate Events

    I really debated giving either a 3 or 4 star rating, as I really feel like I would go with 3.5 stars if I could. I attended a work retreat/reward trip as a guest that was held at this resort. This hotel feels like 1990’s luxury, meaning, it’s really nice, but not modern or updated in a way that feels current. I’m not sure they can ever fix this, as it comes down to the layout, the art, the marble they selected, etc. It’s not bad in any specific way - it just feels dated. However, it’s clean, the common areas are lovely, and grounds are lush with tropical plants and flowers. Our room was great - again, the dated feel existed due to the color of the wood and the style of the furniture, but it was clean, comfortable and spacious. So, why the low rating? First, the pools. These are extremely crowded, and the chairs are so close together you are basically sitting on top of strangers. The shade is so limited that people are trolling for loungers with an umbrella, which are not movable and in short supply. They need to tear down the chapel and build another pool or something to allow people to spread out a bit. Second, the prices of things like food, cabanas, parking and drinks are outrageous. I think this is a problem all over Hawai’i, which is why I’d rather fly a bit further to Fiji for a tropical vacation if I’m footing the bill. The spa is lovely - one of the highlights of the property, but you may need to take out a small loan to do more than one service here. It’s extremely expensive. We ate at both Nobu and the Italian place near the pool, along with eating the catered food for the corporate events. We really enjoyed the Italian spot for lunch, and they did a great job catering a large group four nights in a row. Nobu is pricey and honestly, I wouldn’t go again for what we got. Overall, if you have the money, stay here. If you are on a budget, your dollar will go much further by staying elsewhere. Lastly, since this place can and does hold a lot of large corporate events, I would avoid it during one of these as we know we were obnoxious to the other guests and basically overran the entire resort all week.

    Nirvana at the Grand Wailea

    We had a great experience staying at your hotel for the 10 days. Adult pool was fabulous. Special mention to Aki who served us by the pool. She is a great asset to your hotel. We also really enjoyed Nobo restaurant. Our room had a wonderful view across the lush gardens from which we were able to enjoy the stunning sunsets. We look forward to returning some day.
