Jan 14, 2026Good off-beach option for a night or two, with a few caveats
This is a perfectly fine hotel if you don't need to be by the beach, with a nice rooftop pool and a great upscale food court with two bars a few steps away. Staffers were helpful and the room was quiet and comfortable. With a few drawbacks. Although the pool is on the roof, you have to come all the way down to the lobby to sign out a towel, plus you can't charge anything to your room from the bar there--you have to bring a credit card. Also, Fox News is blaring at high volume all the time in the lobby, creating a lot of tension in what's supposed to be a vacation spot. Plus I felt sorry for the Mexican front desk crew who has to listen to insults about them and their country all day long at high volume.

What set this Hapden Inn above others We've stayed at were the staff. We checked in late at night and the desk satff Jone and Antonio were brilliant- very helpful. Everything else was to or above what youd expect - Room clean, good breakfast etc. Foodmall 2min walk away for Dinners woth a good range of food.

This hotel is plagued by mold and our portable carbon monoxide detector alarm kept going off. The staff was friendly and allowed the shortening of the reservation as pictures confirming the problem was sent to corporate.

Absolutely wonderful service and experience at SJD Hampton Suites on my return trip.
This is the second visit to the Hampton Suites in SJD and ALL of the staff are simply amazing. from front desk to food to cleaning. EVERYONE was/is absolutely fantastic. I was recovering from surgery from neighboring Hospital and I was extremely well taken care of over and above by the staff at Hampton Suites. Highly recommend. In particular, the front desk Antonio and Miguel were a pleasure to spend my 11 days around. They went over and above to make my medical recovery as pleasant as possible. Elaine, Canada

Rude front desk staff
We've stayed at this property in the past, and have had good experiences. This last visit was not the case. Woman at front desk was rude and apathetic!! They actually tried to over charge us for a room we had already paid for. We paid for a one bedroom and they tried to give us a standard room. Roof top pool is like taking a polar plunge!! Hot tub is always having issues. One luggage cart for entire property!! Morning breakfast setup had spaghetti and meatballs!! Unfortunately, after this experience, we will not be returning to this property!! If your looking for a helpful staff, this isn't the place anymore!! We won't be returning!!
