Memorable Honeymoon at The Hideaway: Highlights

My husband and I visited The Hideaway in Punta Cana and, overall, we received exceptional service. Here's our experience: The rooms were a decent size, though the bathroom was on the smaller side. However, everything was spotless, and we never experienced a shortage of supplies. Check-in was a bit confusing, as we had never done a Diamond Club check-in before. We were taken away in a golf cart without any explanation of where we were going. Thankfully, my Spanish-speaking skills came in handy, and the driver finally explained that, due to our status, we’d be checked in at a separate location. It would have been nice to know this in advance since it was our first time visiting. We arrived late, so we had to eat at the main buffet. While the food wasn’t great, it sufficed for a late-night meal. That evening, we met our butler, Dennis. Initially, he was good, but as he got to know us, he became great! He provided 10-star service, and we highly recommend him. He was incredibly responsive to our messages and made our honeymoon extra special. On our fourth day, he prepared a beautiful room setup for us, which we truly appreciated. He also arranged a romantic dinner on the beach as part of our honeymoon, and it was absolutely magical. Our server for the dinner, Estarling, had an infectious smile, a fantastic attitude, and impeccable manners. He made the evening unforgettable! Our room was in building 3, which we loved because of its central location. It was close to everything, so we didn’t have to walk far to reach most areas. Our cleaner, Estela, was incredibly sweet and hardworking—she really stood out to us. The best restaurant by far was Dorado, where we were treated like royalty by Baron. We went there for breakfast almost every day, and it never disappointed. We also had excellent service from Molina at the main buffet and the steakhouse—he was consistently stellar. Wanda at the main Diamond Club lounge was outstanding as well. She made us feel at home and always kept the drinks flowing without missing a beat. The Hideaway pool was our favorite, as it was exclusive to guests like us. The pool attendant, Wilson, was fantastic and ensured we were always well taken care of. The bartenders were equally amazing, always quick and efficient with drinks. Jean-Paul, one of the entertainers, brought so much energy and personality—he’s perfectly suited for his role. We also loved the Mexican restaurant, Cantina, located at Splash. Our server, Dilenny, was wonderful and provided excellent seThe nightly entertainment was good—no complaints there. Now for the negatives: 1. Difficulty getting change: We had large DOP denominations and couldn’t find anywhere to get change. The Hideaway front desk didn’t have any and sent us to the Diamond Club main desk near the front lobby, which then sent us back to the Hideaway desk. This was frustrating and unacceptable—they should be better prepared to assist guests with such basic needs. The exchange place on the main floor also refused to help. 2. Luggage pickup issues: On our last day, the bellboys didn’t come to our room to collect our suitcases, despite us scheduling it in advance. We had to escalate the issue as our Nexus tour bus had already arrived, and we couldn’t leave without our bags. All in all, it was a great week with perfect weather (minus our first day, we were greeted with some rain).

Overall Good Experience - Room for Improvement. Diamond Club Bar is a 5!

The Hideaway is a pleasant resort, but it didn't rate as well as other all-inclusive resorts we've stayed at. Overall, the hotel was clean and well thought out, but it was the little details and lack of organization that caused us to rate it as a 3. We were there for 4 nights and 5 days and were very frustrated at the lack of back and forth required by the guest to make their stay be enjoyable. Food was not outstanding, but it was overall good; the Hibachi grill was the best food. The details were things like the staff really struggling to speak English - like probably 25% of who we spoke to couldn't communicate without a phone; confusion of what restaurants were open; and the most frustrating was the concierge desk and their misinformation. I also struggled to get someone to answer the phone later at night for towels or necessities. I also had to wait 7 minutes to get checked out at the gift shop while two employees took a call and couldn't speak English and I kept being ignored. The waterpark is outstanding and probably better maintained than 95% of the waterparks in the US. It was fun for all ages - our family of 20- and 40-year-olds loved every slide. Staff was courteous and has it very well ran and they have it working very well. Now, for the staff - if you are a Diamond Club member - be sure to go and see Juan and JosMerlyn at the bar - you will not find a better bartender on the island! He knew our drinks daily, ensured we were happy and truly loves his job. And all his drinks were amazing. Rudy was also great at the same bar for the evenings. Denis was our Butler and he was GREAT! Finally, at Hunter's Steakhouse, we had Fredrico, he was enjoyable and was fun the entire time.

Definitely not AdultsOnly!! Not a 5 star!

Let me start off by saying that Sunwing owns this resort which explains a lot! I travelled with my family from Dec. 20-27. Upon arrival there was no one at all to greet us off the bus. No welcome drink, no staff in sight. We had to ask other guests where the Hideaway area was and pull our luggage a good walk in to the check in area. Upon check in, my adult children were given a king bed instead of the double beds we had booked weeks before. Had to wait until the next day to be moved. We asked for an extra pillow and someone actually went to our kids’ room and took one of their pillows and gave it to us. Mind boggling. Bathrooms are very small, showers are tiny. Our bathroom had a bad smell. We booked the diamond Club and other than a bottle of wine in the room, there were no other perks. We had a butler who booked our dinner reservations but anything else we asked for like snacks, beer in our room was not forthcoming, and yes we tipped him very well. Food was very good at the Hunter Steakhouse but other than that it was mediocre and never consistent. The Dorado service was very poor with long wait times to order. We would sit for 20 minutes before someone took our order. We ate breakfast once at the buffet, horrible experience. Long lineups, no one serving coffee or water, and watching water drip from the ceiling into a bucket beside us. Bar staff never seemed happy or pleasant, other than Estrella who was open, friendly and gave us top notch service. This is not adults only. There is an enclosed adults only pool (not very big) but once you come out those doors you are fully in the family section. The only adults only restaurant is the Dorado and the menu is quite limited. If you want to use the snack bar or the burger stand, NOT adults only. However beach is beautiful, Hideaway section at the beach is a very small area. Would not recommend this resort at all. Have paid a lot less in the past at other resorts and had a better experience.

Poor service of behalf of hotel staff. Poor food quality and preparation at the restuarants.

From the first day we experienced bad service at check-in as well as complete disregard by staff at the Hideaway when we tried getting an upgrade so we could get assistance with making reservations at the restaurants. Not only were we lied to by the front desk when we complained about our phone in the room being broken, we had many issues making reservations at the restaurants. The food at several of the restaurants we were finally able to book was inedible. So we ended up eating at the buffet most of the time, which was not very good, but better than the service and quality of food at the 2 restaurants we were able to get into. The only good experience was with our bartenders, namely Juan at the Hideaway bar. Juan was amazing! Also, kudos to Gigi who went out of his way to make us comfortable at the pool and made sure to bring us lunch almost every day.

    Not a 5 star resort

Great location (beach & ocean). The facilities were good - the pools and loungers were nice but super crowded with people claiming spots before 10am. The people were very friendly. We enjoyed the spa (extra fees) and gym (free). But let's be clear, this is not a 5 star resort. If this was a 4 start resort we would have given a higher rating. The rooms were dated were dated. We had one day where our room keys didn't work and we had to go to reception 10 times between noon and 10pm to have it resolved. No available pool/beach towels on one day so we started hoarding them. In 7 nights we were only able to secure reservations for 2 nights and one of those we had to pay $200+ to have that reservation - and the food was blah. There was no age appropriate entertainment for 20 year olds. And of course there's the sales pitch which took 2 hours of our vacation and no we didn't join. Go for the beach and enjoy the buffet (which wasn't bad)
