    Best experience ever

We stayed for a week. My grandpa is blind & I also had my toddler w/ me. The room was so easily accessible for being blind he figured out where everything was the second day! The room came with a washer dryer stove microwave fully equipped kitchen vacuum broom literally everything you have at home! The valets and bellman’s were so helpful! There was one guy who happened to work almost every day that we were there his name was John and he was very kind and helpful with all luggage, groceries, loading the car etc. he stuck out because everytime we were leaving or coming back he would always assist my grandpa in and out of the car and grab anything else I needed meanwhile I was able to get my toddler in or out and have that be my only focus which helped me so much. There’s a restaurant by the water dukes and it was pretty good but honestly there’s better places around but it’s nice for convenience if you don’t want to leave the hotel. We stayed in the first tower. The second one has the spa and omggg best massage I ever had. Obviously a little pricey but what do you expect. Pizza paradiso is around the corner and it’s pretty good. We had kabobs so tender. Gyro was pretty good but wasn’t a fan of tatziki. their French fries were delicious! Their dole whip delicious! Their cocktails. You have to try spam mail and a dole whip colada forsure! Toooo die for. Across the street there’s food trucks and everything smells so good definitely check it out! I tried kaya sushi and it was very good. I wish we had gone to the food trucks sooner there’s many options. There’s also like 3 or 4 pools which is super nice so it’s not too crowded and the ones we went to had a couple inches of water on what I called the platform and then you could sit in the water on the edge and then it dropped down to 3 feet but farther down the ‘river’ also what I called it it would go up to 5 1/2 feet. Overall our stay at this resort came out to be $2,000 for the week and I would definitely come back to this same resort for all the GREAT amenities it had and the AMAZING customer service and support you receive from the staff.

Not as grand as it used to be.

This was my 3rd time staying at the Honua Kai. The property is magnificent and worth staying at but the overall condition of Unit HKK 820 was showing its signs of age. The unit was well equipped and included everything we needed. We even had an issue with the coffee maker not working and after a call to KBM we had a new one later that afternoon. The problem I had with the unit was the overall cleanliness. The main carpet was dirty had huge stains on it. The drapes had large stains and the shower grout was dingy and stained. The TV stand was missing a chunk of wood out of it. The exterior windows do not look like they have been cleaned in some time. Even in the hallway there was evidence that they had to cut into the drywall but had just replaced the drywall and had not taped or finished or painted it to match the rest of the wall. I have always thought of the Honua Kai as the standard for luxury rentals. This trip has shown me that is no longer the case.

Great location and property, poorly managed and maintained

My group stayed across three villa units and one tower unit for a week. Here’s my honest review, pros and cons… Highlights included: a stellar location, great pools, solid cocktails at dukes, and great beach access. Also love keypad entry so you don’t have to remember your keys all the time esp when at beach or pool. Love the outdoor grills and beer fridges on the villa balconies. Areas of feedback for the property: We found many of the units to have been in mediocre condition and poorly maintained. Two units have broken a/c’s and a third was just barely strong enough. Also had WiFi issues, broken bbq lids, non operational patio fans, broken dishwashers. In the common areas, the gym has a decent set of weight equipment, but is comically small, almost infuriatingly and dangerously so. Every morning and every evening before dinner it was just so packed, you could barely do your sets without bumping into somebody at the machine next to you To add to that, the gym‘s air conditioning was broken all week (who knows how long before that?) which added to the discomfort. I’m a pretty easy-going traveler and have no problem when a couple of these happen from time to time but seeing them all occur is a clear sign of poor management by the ownership. My TLDR here is it’s a good property, but shows extremely poor management and excessive cost cutting, and ultimately becomes a subpar product until that’s addressed.

This resort was a great place for us our 3 grandchildren and their parents. Kids were 11, 9, 5. They could not get enough of the beach and pools. Great variety with the different pools and hot tubs. The beach offers gentle but fun waves and good snorkeling right on property. Parking was easy and included. The staff was very good and took care of every request that we made quickly. The unit we rented was spacious and had great view of the ocean. We had coffee and breakfast every morning out on the Lani. Had to squeeze a little but all 7 of us were able to fit at the table. Beds were great and very comfortable. Bathrooms were large and very nice. TV was a bit complicated for us older folks to figure out but the grandkids helped. Kitchen well stocked but maybe some salt and pepper and condiments could be left. The unit we rented did not have any water or beach toys. We rented directly from Outrigger so our beach towels were furnished by the resort and unlimited as to how many we could get. A great vacation, on a beautiful property, we would highly recommend.

We have stayed at this resort 5 times since 2012. We have dealt directly with the resort one time, and with property management companies the other 4. All were great to deal with and zero problems. Resort is a solid 4 stars - I wish we could do half’s as I would probably give 4.5 stars. Lobby and common areas are always clean and look great. Valets and baggage folks always friendly and helpful. Having Dukes on site is a big plus. Super tough to get in for dinner, but lunches never seemed to be a problem. Accommodations are pretty standard. We have done 2 and 3 bedroom units. The pictures are all pretty true to what you get. Easy beach access and always plenty of room. Rooms are always well stocked with beach gear and really anything else you need. Perfect for families with the washer and dryers in each unit. Absolutely our go to place when we stay on the west side of Maui.
